- How to Find Crappie with Down imaging and mark a waypoint with your GPS. I receive a lot of questions about how to find your waypoint once you marked a school of fish or a brush pile. In this video I demonstrate how I find my waypoint and setup on crappie.

Thanks for throwing this video up so quickly...now I got to find some brush piles in deep water!
Wasuusing a livescope
Great video thats what we like to see. Learning how to use side and down imaging.
Where I live making brush piles or cribs is illegal. So they are few and far between. Our weed edge in almost all lakes near me is 18 fow. Crappies are in schools along that edge. I use my trolling motor to troll at 0.6 mph with those minnows and a small tube about 2 ft above it. I just ease along the drop off dragging those behind. I caught 3 crappie at one time 2 on one rod and 1 on the other. I caught like 50 crappie in a couple hours. Some up to 13 in. Good to see you back on here. I miss your videos.
Would love pulling or pushing , never done it, always straight line with jigs or minnows
Great video step by step very informative keep up the good work I fish rivers and lakes in al always enjoy watching other folks and their ideas
Your so good and creating useful content. Thanks for the 2D info
Thank you Davis for all the awesome videos. I especially love the ones showing how you find the crappie and structure with the fish finder, 2d downscan and side imaging. A lot of us don’t have livescope so we can’t relate to that. 😊
It’s awesome! Just what I was looking for!!
Great video! Thank you so much for sharing information.
Great info and video!! Thanks so much for sharing w us!! W
Great Video ! Awesome Info!
Hey Davis! Here's a tip I came up with that I've never even tried yet...when vertical jigging deep tie on a slip bobber string around that depth you want and adjust accordingly 😉
You can use a permanent marker too, different colors for different depths.
This is exactly what I do when fishing for crappie in deeper water. Use a string bobber stop in your line at an estimated depth. Once you find them move your mark up or down your line. So much easier to see and you can just cast your line out and reel down until your bobber stop is near the top of the water surface. No stripping line or magic markers
@@reruiz85 Excellent!! I thought it was a my genius idea 🤣 glad you proved it long ago....there's two of us. You beat me to the punch.
BINGO!!!! Thank you for sharing the knowledge...
That was a great video! Thanks for sharing. 👍
Great tip! Thank you
Great video man.
Great vid Davis 👍
Looks great
Hey Bud. I just installed my very first Garmin today. I love your videos bud. Tomorrow will be my first time trying it out. The fish finder I had came on my old used boat. It's a old Lowrance. I hope I can figure the Garmin out pretty quick lol
Thank u for the info fam
great video
Thanks again.
Nice one!
Well done
I have the same graph as you do. My image on down imaging never is a good as yours is when you showed the pic of the fish over the brush pile
Enjoyed the first part but needed your livescope for the 2nd part.
Cool tip Davis!! That’s going to help me tremendously and have a blessed day Brother!!
Enjoy all your videos.
I have a Helix 7 Gen. 3.
Since it’s a small screen, and I’ll be looking for brush piles and fish., would I gain any larger returns and/or more pixels if I lowered my “upper settings” adjustment ?
God bless and Thanks
Yes, you gain a little bit of a better picture when fishing in deeper water (more than 20ft).
Thanks Brother
Hey Davis, nice video! I could be wrong, but on SI or DI with Garmin, if you press the “mark” button at the bottom of the screen it marks the boats current location. If you’re using the screen cursor to mark something back in the history or out the the side, I was told to use the tear drop waypoint icon in the top right corner of the screen. If you’re not having issues finding your waypoints, then nevermind! God Bless!
thats correct
You're correct
Im new to the fish finder world . Just bought a Humming Bird Piranha Max 4DI. Can you turn the transducer (down Imaging)on its side and use as "side imaging" or forward looking ?? Great info and thanks for not breaking your camera. Keep up the good work.
I'm not sure if it work as a side image or not.
I fish a lake that’s deep so my question is how deep will crappie go when I start looking for them. Thanks
It will depend on the time of year. Crappie will be in the deepest water during the winter months. I wouldn't look deeper than 30ft during this time. It snot that you can't find crappie deeper than 30ft, but the mortality rate of catching fish deeper than 30ft is very high. During the spring crappie will move shallow to spawn and can be found in a foot of water.
I’m new to crappie fishing, well fishing from a boat in general… what’s a good tip if I don’t have spot lock on my trolling motor, I can mark the spot, float back to it, but then I’m throwing my anchor off the boat and absolutely messing everything up… should I stay back like 10 ft and cast to it? I want to jig right above it but I feel like my anchor screws me
I recommend staying off to the side of the spot when throwing the anchor the casting to it.
What is your Contrast and Gain set at on your Garmin? Awesome images
I turn my contrast up slightly, but the gain is set on auto low.
How are the cribs made and then weighted to hold?
The logs are wrapped with wire and anchored by cinder blocks
What the best unit for clearest image on di HB or Garmin
It's not so much the manufacturer but screen quality and transducer that gives the best image. The better screen resolution, the clearer the image will be. I currently run a Garmin GPSMAP 8610xsv which is 1920x1200. This gives a super clear image for DI and SI. Some of the 5inch screen are only 720p resolution, so the image will not look as crisp when compared my 8610xsv.
Davis, good morning to ya (it's 6 am here in Alabama). Quick question for my issue I am having with my Garmin Echomap 93SV UHD model. So as I am Side Scanning, I see a brush pile or a school of fish, I pause sonar and put the cursor on them and tap the new waypoint icon, then click go to. I follow the arrow and upon arrival, it says arrived. I look on down imaging and can't find the brush or fish. What could be the issue, if any? Thanks.
I personally don't like using the go to function. I use the split screen (side imaging/ GPS) and zoom in on the GPS map as close as possible. I then try to line the boat up with the waypoint. When I'm close I may switch to down imaging or 2d sonar and then throw out a buoy marker
You need to fish Dale hollow in Kentucky holds some of the biggest crappie you will ever catch.
I'm planning to fish there next November
@@FloppingCrappie Give me a shout when you come down. I guide over here on Dale Hollow for them. I would love to fish with you. Clearykentuckyfishing
Do you just hold it there over the brush pile or reel it over them?
Sometimes both. It depends on the bite. They could want to jig moving, in which case, casting and reeling the jig over them is best.
Seeing this kinda makes me wish I got a garmin instead of a hummingbird. Seems to have much better features and UI. Eh well. Live and learn
Very good video
I’ve been searching watts bar all summer since I moved here and get skunked every time. My unit is a lowerance hook 7 2d with downscan. I was out the other morning and what I saw on my screen is pretty much what you’ve shown.
Hey Ronnie - what area of Watts Bar are you looking at?
@@larrymarek9571 rockwood area.
@@ronniesolomon5235 So, you're launching from Caney Creek? How far down river have you ventured? Going down from Caney Creek there are numerous little coves on either side of the river. Stick to areas 12-22 fow and you should find something.
@@larrymarek9571 I’m launching from Tom fuller park. I also launch out of whites creek.
@@ronniesolomon5235 Oh, okay. There are a couple good spots in, I think that's King Creek. Same thing applies, check 12-22 fow. Have you checked the TWRA map for their fish attractors?
The coordinates on your screen give your location away - great vid though, thanks
I'm in N.C. so I'm sure I'll never go there , good look graft, installed 1 to day
Be carful. He marked the first waypoint incorrectly, should have push button on top right on screen. Instead he accidentally marked his boat location not the historical position
