Tico Torres is massively underrated. The guy has a great groove and perfect rock chops that very few people mention. His work on Blood on Blood and Wild in the Streets is awesome.
My very first Drum hero. I still remember watching their live concert in london thru dvd when I was 11. And these guys are absolutely awesome. And Tico inspired me to play drumset even though I dont have one. Now I've been in a Band for 6 years and still. Tico is my Favorite drum hero.... Yet I still dont havemy own Drumset
If you listen closely you can hear that the snare is actually a very big sound. It's beefy it's fat it has a lot of crack. It fills up a lot of space in the song.
Actually, they're practical in Tico's case. You can see in the Livin On A Prayer music video that he didn't use gloves or special drum sticks at that point. It was at some point during the New Jersey Syndicate tour that he ended up with carpal tunnel syndrome if I remember correctly. He ended up finding a type of drum sticks at that point that minimized the effect carpal tunnel syndrome so he could keep playing. The gloves may have also played a part in that too. I'm not too sure because I haven't seen that many concerts from the 80's. He has used them since the 90's though and they do look bad ass.
Of course, you'r doing a great job with the sounds, but great credit goes to this young drummer, during all these videos he showed great versatility and pro attitude. And yes, a video about the mixing process is very welcomed.
Love Bon Jovi and 80s sound! Thanks a lot. Also would like to see Tommy Lee in future or... maybe Christoph Schneider of Rammstein - drum sound on Reise, Reise album is something)
First Foo Fighters and now Bon Jovi? You really want me to fall in love with you, guys. The recreation was excellent as usual. However, i love the fact that you get the sound even without have the same drum sizes or cymbal brand. This is a great lesson for all the kids you think they need the EXACTLY SAME drums and cymbals of the favorites drummers to sound like them. Thank you, again, and see ya!
We just uploaded a mixing breakdown video of our Bon Jovi drum sound on our platform. Check it out here: artofdrumming.com/courses/mixing-iconic-drum-sounds
Thank you so much for mentioning the mixing! Gated reverb is a huge part of 80s drum sounds and too many people glance over it. I would LOVE to see videos about drum mixing.
Geez, that mixing sounds so freaking heavenly! Yo i gotta admit, you guys are keeping me so inspired on playing drums where I'm at the point that we switch instruments for the band I'm currently playing with 😂. Anyway great video and absolutely great video work specially on the recreation vid as well! Been a lowkey subscriber here for a while and you guys have been teaching me a lot ever since i discover you guys. Please do keep it up! I do have a request tho. Can you guys make a remake of the drum sound of My Chemical Romance on their Welcome To The Black Parade album? The drums on the album sounds so amazing! Hoping you guys could take this one soon. Lots of love! From the Philippines.
As a long time Bon Jovi Fan: thumbs up, very good job and very very close to the original. Favorite Bon Jovi Song btw: Blood on Blood from the New Jersey Album :)
This is great very well for learn drum kit reference , i've watching so excited for this channel 😊 I hope you make this to lot drummers of rock bands with difference sound kit like john bonham, neil peart, keith moon and much more drummers ... Keep rock&roll 🤟✌️
Once again, an absolutely incredible job. I would certainly enjoy seeing videos on the mixing process. I’d also love to see you guys recreate the drum sound from Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers’ “Damn The Torpedoes” record. “Here Comes My Girl” has a very unique drum sound, and would likely involve a lot on the mixing end like this video.
Really well done. But I think when it comes down to Tico's really original sound, you should play two crashes at once in the intro part. And I think, especially for this song, the floor toms would have been enough. :-D In my teen age, I copied Tico's cymbal setup with Paiste Alpha cymbals and I was able to play almost every song of Bon Jovi. I really digged into the cymbals back then and played mostly the power models. Today I prefer more thinner cymbals and also smaller setups.
Loved the video ,thank you so much!! and yes i would love to learn the studio technic to be able to get Tico's gated reverb huge drums sound . did you make one already ? i would love also to buy his signature snare drum thanks for your work
Would love to see a mix breakdown. I think you got pretty dang close. I think the decay of the gated verb is a bit too short, but made sense in order to get the initial spike and predelay on the verb right. Usually for this sound I would either increase decay of the gated verb or stack it with a plate or a long decay studio verb mixed at a lower volume than the gated verb. Props for keeping the gated verb flag flying it is not as common these days.
It would be awesome to see you guys merge with electronic drums and recreate Rick Allen's (Def Leppard) signature sound. I did it with my alesis strike pro SE, essentially programming how I think his kit would be set up for a conventinal player.
Tico is and has been the best thing about Bon Jovi. Everyone else, good guys, mediocre musicians, terrible song writers. But 'They are popular" to those who don't understand music. I've never been a "hair bands" fan, or whatever you call most of that 80's pop rock. Motley Crue was about the only one I liked, but they have made me wonder these days losing the best thing about the band, Mick Marrs. But his health ain't quite what is used to be. Hats off to the man. Now this is somebody terribly underrated.
Very enjoyable vid! However, the original really doesn't sound like a gated reverb to me, it just sounds like a big room reverb without a gate. I notice the decay on the original is much longer on the snare drum. I could be wrong though, still sounds awesome.
Speaking of toms. Would art of drumming ever do a tom size shootout comparing traditional size toms to F.A.S.T sizes and Power sizes? As with Tico Torres, power sizes were really popular in the 80's, and they were also really difficult to get to sound good.
I still love Tico Torres' sound of his kit. Oh and uh, by the way, I forgot to mention. Tico Torres uses Remo emperor x on his batter head for snare. I searched on the internet and he uses controlled sound in the past times on his pearl signature snare.
What cameras do you use to record the video dudes? Appart from your sound and story telling and presentation, your image quality is also amazing! One of my fav channels to visit
Tico Torres is massively underrated. The guy has a great groove and perfect rock chops that very few people mention. His work on Blood on Blood and Wild in the Streets is awesome.
80s drum kits: 2 kicks, 14 gigantic toms, 73 crashes
80s drum beats: boots and cats
😂😂😂😂 so true

I've always loved the short "boom" of an 80s snare drum. Sounds like firing a gun.
💯😁 gated reverb is key
I think in Mutt Langes Def Leppard productions he actually used a gunshot sample
Really?
If you listen closely you can hear that the snare is actually a very big sound. It's beefy it's fat it has a lot of crack. It fills up a lot of space in the song.
Would love to get a view of you guys mixing those drum sounds.
We actually filming this one upcoming monday
@@ArtOfDrumming Nice! Looking forward to that video😊
The secret to achieve the right sound is using cool rock star gloves when playing. 🤘🏻
Great drumming, as usual!
;-) 100% true

Totally agree

I second the Rammstein proporsal.
We actually film Rammstein recreation next week 😁
@@ArtOfDrummingRight on! Have fun with it! In waiting)
Would definitely love a Tommy Lee, Dr Feelgood era recreation.
The cymbal choke at the end of the chorus made it. Great job!
The transition from the cover to the intro sequence was smooth
Definitely yes please for mixing videos!
We are actually filming our first one next monday - stay tuned.
Tico is underestimated so much. He hits one ride symbal per one beat. I think i'ts his characteristic groove. I like it !!
You guys absolutely crazy, recreating this old rock songs, and i love it!) ❤❤❤
I've been waiting for this for a long time. That`s great. Thank you.
Thanks for your feedback!
Wait how did I miss this video?!? Tico was my OG inspiration behind the kit.
My favorite song!! (( ROULETTE )). By far to me the best BonJovi song.....I love playing UFO. TESLA, or some early van halen.

Amazing job to get all this into a reasonably short video. I'm not a musician but I love the art of music so this is perfect.
Just discovered your channel - can't wait to see the rest of your videos! Your tom and kick tones are awesome to my ears!.
Thank you so much for mentioning the mixing! Gated reverb is a huge part of 80s drum sounds and too many people glance over it. I would LOVE to see videos about drum mixing.
An insight into the mixing process is very exciting indeed !
Sounded great! And I think the snare is really spot on in combination with the music

The most addictive singalong chorus in the history of music. To date, no one has ever manage to resist once they've heard the first Woah.

I know it’s a simple beat, but still fun to play. My set is loosely based off this. 80’s rock was fun
That kit sounds great
That's so close to the original that without paying close attention I would have never known.
Perfect reconstruction

Please do Scott Rockenfield next please!
