    Thanks for this one; I ran it the same year as you and you nicely captured the colors I remember from the day. Did you have to enhance the colors with editing or did they come out that nicely with your camera, no color editing needed? It was a lovely day for sure and the trail was so nice and soft under foot. A nice treat. Thanks for sharing!

      I rarely do any color correction, clips look like that straight from the GoPro. Thank you for watching, I'm happy this brought back memories for you!

    Wes, you need to come to Canada for either QMT110 or 50 or Harricana (UTHC) in Quebec, lot of beautiful scenery

      @@wplate yes, definitely a pretty area. Used to drive right through it every year on our way to a lake just northeast of Crater. I'm excited. First race beyond the half marathon distance.

      @@wplate well, I finished the 50k!! It was a gorgeous run! Took me 7 hrs, longer than I would have liked, ended up walking/jogging quite a bit of the last several miles, but I'm glad I did it, and I have a much better idea of how to train for the next race. 😁 Enjoyed watching your video again, it was fun to relive the day!

      @@LittleMrsW Congrats! You finished, that's awesome! Every run and race has something to teach us, and that's how we improve. Did you have good fall colors?

    Great video! I'm running this next month. Looking forward to that "flat & runnable" course 😂.
    At the end though, you also commented that it was hard - I'm curious what part(s) were particularly hard? Thanks!

    • @wplate
      @wplate  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it was hard for me because I ran it harder than I normally run. I was under a delusion that I could possibly run my fastest 50K there. The elevation is relatively low compared to other 50Ks I've done, but I've just better at slower I think. I really let my nutrition and hydration fall apart at the end as well, evidenced by the cramping. There are some technical sections I remember, but mostly I wouldn't say this is a hard 50k. Good luck, I hope you have good weather and gorgeous fall colors.

    Wes,
    Gorgeous run. How do you search for races? Thank you.

    • @wplate
      @wplate  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All the ways. I see them mentioned in Trail Runner or Ultrarunning magazines, I see friends run them in Strava, I hear about them in conversation, I see IG posts about them… I also like to enable alerts for races on Ultrasignup. I get emailed when a race opens registration, and when a race is filling up.

    Is this a good first 50k? Or did you prefer the Smith Rock 50k? What is your favorite 50k in Oregon?

    • @wplate
      @wplate  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great questions Tessa!
      This is a pretty good first 50k, in that it has relatively low vertical gain. It has a 8.5 hour cutoff, which depending on how fast your first 50k is going, could feel tight. Daybreak Racing races I’ve done have had tighter cutoffs.
      In my opinion, Smith Rock is more interesting than Rogue Gorge. The rocks and the views and the climbs and the descents of Smith Rock give it more character.
      Of the three 50Ks I’ve done in Oregon, Smith Rock may be my favorite.

    • @wplate

      Yikes, I did six in 2018, six in 2019, eight in 2021, and so far planning on seven in 2022. 😳
