I just used the nomad lane bento on my trip to Greece. I LOVE it! Everything was accessible and it holds a ton. At times it seems like the things won’t fit in the small upper (tech) pockets but they really hold a ton. I had my sleep mask and fan in with the tech pouch. I’ve tried a ton of personal items. This is the best. I also used their large sling as my purse. Great purchase!
Thank you! The is the best personal size bag review video that I have seen. It's so helpful that you list all the airlines where each bag will fit AND show the bag under the seat.
Thank you for your very informative, real-world review - it's good to see someone actually put these bags in the sizers! Just an FYI: I recently picked up a WalMart Protege rolling tote for $5.00 at a flea market. It was new, with price tag still attached - $17.00! Not a misprint. Dimensions 17x7.5x14 (I'll let someone else convert to cm. 😀) Too big for some of the airlines that you showed, but will fit for many. Nothing fancy, but seems to be well made for the price, with sleeve and clothes retainer straps in one compartment. Sturdy handle and rolls smoothly. It might not last as long as the bags featured, (or could last longer!) but for someone on a very tight budget who only goes on a couple of trips a year, it would suffice. Again, thanks for your great videos.
@@sandiehay4965 Yes, would be nice if they all could be coordinated as far as size. I think that if you choose a soft-sided bag, and not pack it too tightly, you could squeeze it in to the sizer.
Thanks for making this video! The Travelpro tote looks really interesting, but you list it as being accepted by Swiss International. Their sizing for personal items is 40 cm x 30 cm x 10 cm, which is much smaller than this bag.
WestJet personal sizing is 16 x 13 x 6. Your suggestion (travelpro tote) is 10 x 16.25 x 9 ("too big" even tho it clearly fits in practise), even the backpack and the viral bag you feature here is too big according to their website. Everything i find seems to be an inch off. Am i being too particular, or am i misunderstanding something? I keep hearing the airlines are starting to get serious about compliance.
These soft-sided bags can often be squeezed into the sizer, depending on the contents. As long as you are not packed too tight, or you don't have rigid objects to hinder the squeezing process, you should be fine.
Try takeoff luggage with its removable wheels, Good quality, good price, classifies as an 18" personal item with snap off wheels, clamshell design with lock Fits right under seat!
Thank you for sharing! Would you recommend the Monos Metro Duffel as a personal item for international travel…in particular Air Canada and Air Transat. Thanks!
I'm still stuck on backpacks. I'd hate to be forced to carry a tote across the airport over my shoulder. I do like backpacks with trolley sleeves. If I'm taking my 17 inch laptop I take my Marmot backpack. Not sure of the size. It has a laptop sleeve; compartments; plus pocket on the front and water bottle holder. If I'm not taking my laptop I like my Vera Bradley Women's Microfiber XL Campus Backpack, it has a trolley sleeve, tons of pockets. A secret hidden pocket for your passport, etc. Water bottle holder. The only thing lacking is something to clip your carabiner on to hold your water bottle. Plus, it is super cute. I'm eyeing the backpack for a trip where I"m limited to 33 lbs total between my personal item bag and carry-on.
WARNING! Her information is not fully correct. The Bento bag will NOT fit on neither Swiss International, Austrian, nor Lufthansa Airlines as a personal item. Their limits are all 16x12x4 inches for personal items. This bag would need to be classified as a carry-on item for these and possibly other airlines. ALWAYS measure and check the airline's website yourself.

Hi Aly thanks again for a fabulous video girl! You're 5 stars in my books! One quick question for you. The travelpro tote (crew bag) you showcase @ 4:03, does not meet Westjet requirements does it? I noticed it wasn't approved on the list at the end of the video segment but noticed you showcased it on Westjet is this correct? I will wait to purchase the bag until I receive this confirmation. Thank you for all that you do!!!!!
Hi there! It's this little bag: amzn.to/4fUxjit and I put advil, tums, bandaids, wipes, etc. I have a section in a previous video where I talk more about it here: th-cam.com/video/uQL2Nya5Nsg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4sRCQRzgkErXF27_&t=223
Hi Aly, As a Canadian, I often use Air Canada. My last ticket says "1 personal item (max. size: 16 x 33 x 43 cm [6 x 13 x 17 in]). ". How does that size requirement work with the bags you profiled?
@@alysmalls You showed two bags, the Viral Bag and Classic Tote fitting into the Air Canada sizer, not "several" bags. Not trying to diminish your help Aly, but it's better to be as factual as possible. You don't use the sizer for the small tote, and say it fits under the seat. That may be true but it is misleading. Airlines don't use an under-the-seat test for bags, they iterate specific dimensions.
Well, as Canadians, we have used all of these bags flying to and from Canadian airports with no issue - I've even used the larger version of the black tote (amzn.to/4ey4bMD ) which doesn't fit in the bins, but fits under the seats with room to spare - frustrating!!
@@alysmalls It's great that you had no issues, but airlines are cracking down on oversized luggage, so who knows if the personal items will be hit next. I agree that if it fits under the seat why not use that as the limit?
Yes cabinmax lightest ever..usedvto use the Ejet accepted larger one but now they ve reduced free carry on size as have all airlines. They definitely check my bag each time and usually no extra item without paying .

Does Chris’ backpack fit in the flair personal item? Going to Vegas for 3-4 nights for $100 has been very pleasant but my backpack barely fits without a lot of force to stuff it in
Thank you for this great video (as usual), but I am anxious about the sizing - obviously you are a very seasoned traveller, but I have heard that they now have electronic laser sizing and weighing machines at some airports now in Canada that have a very low tolerance for dimensions outside of those listed on the airline websites. AC and WJ have tiny personal limits with a 6" depth and heard when flights are crowded that it is usually the women with the amazon totes who are hit first with the tape measures when the machines are not used. Have you put any of these to the test in the machines - I am so paranoid that we will be dinged - but the bags you are showing are amazing. Thanks again for the great video :)
