I heard this at PID last year in Austin. My husband and I sang at the top of our lungs in the VIP Section. I don’t think a lot even knew it. It was one of my greatest memories of the final tour and I’ll cherish it forever.
Mike, you've got a gift of song. Thank you for sharing your words and stories with us. Much appreciation for you and your craft. Things get pretty cool when Aimee comes in.
My mom payed the neighbor girl, Audrey, to take me to school after I moved 300 miles from SLC to St. George, UT (just north of Vegas) in 1993. White Trash was still quite new and Audrey fkn LOVED it. She introduced me to NOFX. The very first person I met (aside from her) walked into our first period class on the first day of school, wearing a shirt that read "Everything Sucks", dragging a duffle bag behind him like a dead dog. I was like, "THIS GUY GETS IT!" Ryan was my best friend. We saw our first NOFX show together at Bricks in Salt Lake. I think Snuff opened? We saw NOFX in Vegas so many times. One was a Friday show so we got shithoused on manischevitz. We drove to Boise for the second ever Punk in Drublic, then flew to Philly on Ryan's 40th birthday for PiD, with Mad Caddies, the Interrupters, Bad Religion, and the incomparable NOFX, of course. We did so much blow and had a fkng blast! I don't have any brothers, but Ryan is my brother. He killed himself on October 23rd, leaving behind a 15-year-old son . . . and a 46-year-old 'brother.' Jesus Christ, I'm getting snot and tears everywhere. Gross. Fluids of varying viscosities just oozing outta my face. "She's Gone" always moved me. It's my favorite song on that album by a country mile. I already miss Ryan so much I can barely function. I've grabbed my phone to shoot him a text about some such shit at least three times every day, forgetting that he won't see it. He's gone. We were looking forward to one last NOFX show. Shit. Thank you, Mike.
Im sorry about your loss. Having a connection like this is hard to come buy. Some times never occurring in live. I’m also from stg. So I know what it might have been like in the 90s. Not very welcoming to “punk” attitudes or anyone that’s considered an outsider. 🙌🏻❤️
This is one of the songs that saved my life. Not hyperbolic, literally. My mom was killed when I was a young boy. I always play this song when I can’t stop thinking about her\it
The chorus/bridge of this song (Carol Ann stands alone in the school yard) is one of the most magical sections of any song, ever. The vocal harmonies and song melody is perfect
I've cried many of tears 😭 to this song that's how you know it's a great meaningful song if it makes you cry, it always reminds me of my mom but now I know the real story behind it, thanks for sharing
Interesting point about the sad vibe, even though most of the chords are major. On top of that, the first chord (D5) has no 3rd, so from the first chord alone, we don't know what key we're in. It's super cool and interesting that when our brains hear the relationship of the chords and the distance between them, that's what gives us the vibe, not just the chord qualities themselves. Love it.
In NOFXs version the first chord isn’t actually a D5. It’s a A#5 then a C with the major third E then a D with the minor third of F, so the D does point to minor. The way Fat Mike plays it here isn’t how it is in their version which is odd.
@@darrenedwarddolhanty6814 Very interesting! Thank you! I suppose it's not too odd since Mike didn't play the guitar on that record. I wonder if Hefe or Melvin took Mike's D5 chord and made a substitution.
Thank you so much, fat Mike for divulging all these stories on your podcast. Also thank you for being so honest it's so refreshing to hear the truth. Thank you. Your an amazing human
I had an idea that it was how the story went. My guitarist just shared this with me cause it’s my favorite nofx song. This one and green corn. I asked you to play green corn when I bounced the door at your show in Lahaina back when. Me and you partied a bit cause you got mad at me for sleeping in the ally at your show. It was because I just had a baby girl and you had too, we were having a punk rock dad moment. Bout a year after we had that conversation the movie the other f word came out. Hey Mike. Again. I gotta thank you for the music that shapes my life to this very day.🐸🍺🔪🔥
The Mad Caddies don't have the magic to turn the major-chord progression into a 'minor-chord' sound. Thanks for sharing the sad story, I always wondered and never thought this would be linked to my home country.
Still to this day my favourite NOFX song. It was really interesting as most of their songs to that point were light and humorous. Then they threw that song in that was deep and troubled. Started showing their depth in my opinion
Great vid fatty.. I too have always wondered the meaning behind she's gone.. maybe one day you can talk about desperations gone? When so long came out my bros and I thought it would be your last album after dissecting desperations gone.. and the then of course the album title and such..
Does anyone know what the reason for the four poster bed is, in the lyrics?? Is it saying the apartment was not well heated? Or is there a deeper meaning?
I need to find a way to use your music to teach. I want to create a whole course designed around topics like this. Would you mind? Maybe we use the funds to help someone?
I wish I could add a picture on here. I found a photoshop of Ben and Jerry’s Drunkie Monkey, official NOFX ‘beer flavored ice cream that’s just a bit nuts’. I was so excited for like 7 seconds until I realized it wasn’t real. 😢
I thought you did a bunch of writing on The Holiday has Been Cancelled? Litterally the only EP I ever purchased, still have it, Falling Down is still one of the most unique ska songs. As far as I'm concerned the Police might have been the best ska punk band ever. Generally you can only fuck with the reggea recipe so much before it becomes something else, they got way more creative with the timing than just about anyone.
« Hefe is better at guitar » 😅 I almost pissed myslef 😂 This version is very cool but the Carol Ann part hits way hatder in the Nofx song ❤ Very sad story behind the song.
Punk Rock Steady was SUCH a good album. They did justice to so many iconic bands. Your cheeky cameo at the end of Nation States is perfection 😅 Honestly, MC should do another.
I didn't know this version. But I did my own cover of the NOFX version while I didn't actually know what this song was about. I remember my parents heard it and assumed it was about bad parenting though... Wish they could've heard what it was truly about But my dad is dead now and my mom might as well be dead to me. And she wouldn't have cared either way... Bad parenting... How sad the irony is in hindsight
Jesus Christ , He came to His own, but His own did not receive Him, but all those who did receive Him them gave He the power to become the sons of God, all those who believe in His name, these are born not of the will of man but by the will of God "For so did God love the world that He gave His only begotten Son so that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life"
Not so fast. None of what he showed for "She's Gone" was technically correct. He never shows a chord, but 2 note dyads. It takes 3 different notes to create a chord. Also, none of those dyads were major or minor. They were just root 4th's or root 5ths, which are the same for major or minor.
Not so fast. From the second dyad until the second last one it is all root and 3rd, the interval is of a major chord. The video is not a music lesson, brother. Why comment on these little irrelevant things?
I've always got the impression that fat Mike thinks this is a really good song. It isnt. Theres so many nofx songs I'd love to hear mad caddies do a version of. Not this one tho. Boring cover of a boring song. Everytime nofx play it live I'm just like "what a waste of set time"
Mike- your song is great. The MC cover is cheap. Just because its produced a diff way, or has a quality engineered sound, doesnt make it cool. Doesnt matter what instruments they used or how you try to stretch it into a Police reference, podcast material, etc.
Dude, thank you for telling this story. I've wondered, literally for decades, what the story was behind "She's Gone." Thanks again, Mike.
I miss the days when fat mike told stories through his songs that werent so literal
I heard this at PID last year in Austin. My husband and I sang at the top of our lungs in the VIP Section. I don’t think a lot even knew it. It was one of my greatest memories of the final tour and I’ll cherish it forever.
She's gone always gives me the chills...thank you for your music.
One of the best Nofx tunes. “Carol Anne stands alone in the school yard…” always get chills
It really is such a powerful song. That whole album has so many bangers but She's Gone is special.
White trash is almost a perfect album
Mike, you've got a gift of song. Thank you for sharing your words and stories with us. Much appreciation for you and your craft. Things get pretty cool when Aimee comes in.
One of the best NOFX's song and the Caddies rule, so that's it.
Thanks 4 the video Mike !
That entire punk rock steady album is amazing

Would be great to see some of the longer podcasts again, but these shorter videos are really good too.
well, Mike IS a Joo-ish person .....so.....it fits lmfao

One of my favorite NOFX songs... .so glad ya'll played this in Tacoma!
This is one of my favorite covers if this song.Ive been listening to it all summer.
Definitely one of the best early NOFX ballads! :)
The chorus/bridge of this song (Carol Ann stands alone in the school yard) is one of the most magical sections of any song, ever. The vocal harmonies and song melody is perfect
I couldn't agree more.
@@MikeP2055 the amount of times I’ve rewound that section to continue to hear it is unmatched. Probably my most rewound song ever
The original from NOFX, yes. Mad Caddies didn't do the part good at all.
@@HollywoodSnob_ agreed
100%!!
Love every second of this song. I don’t think I ever heard this version I’ll never forget the original. Thank you so much!!

Really cool to hear these stories...... Keep it up
One of their best songs
Mike, that beauty is all you. It's like you forget, you're the best songwriter we got
no joke, this album is amazing.

Such a great song! Gonna see the Caddies next week in Hanover, Germany. :)
She’s gone is an absolute masterpiece of a song. I’ve always loved it!
Beautiful song

Oh wow that's amazing!! She's Gone is one of my favorites
Yo that ending is very cool!
Sweets"n greets from Amsterdam
Hands down one of my top 5 favorite NoFX songs
The Mad Caddies don't have the magic to turn the major-chord progression into a 'minor-chord' sound. Thanks for sharing the sad story, I always wondered and never thought this would be linked to my home country.
I love it cuz I've been listening to "She's Gone" for the past two weeks in my head.
Favorite from the lp. Cheers
She's gone is definetelly one of my favorite nofx song. But I'm quite surprised from that other band version. Pretty good!
I had no idea Mad Caddies did that song as well. It was a beautiful rendition but what will always be in my heart is how NOFX played it.
P R O P A G A N D H I ! ! ! !
AIDS was a bitch and it took a lot of great artists too soon. Nice story (and song), Mr. Burkett!
I love that song didn't know you wrote it
Quand tu la chantais c'était déchirant!
Wow this sounds so different feom the original. I like them both good interpretation of the song.
Damn, what a version \m/
Sad story man. Good tune and vocals
Still to this day my favourite NOFX song. It was really interesting as most of their songs to that point were light and humorous. Then they threw that song in that was deep and troubled. Started showing their depth in my opinion
It's a Top 5 NOFX song. Random order... Total Bummer, We threw Gasoline, Desperations Gone, Drop the World, She's gone

My favourite songs are all either sad songs with maj chords or happy songs with minor chords
dude, come to Chile we're gonna make the most amazing party in you honor

Today I learned this angelic voice was Aimee Allen, cause I was too lazy to figure it out before.
Good song. I like it.
It’s a fuckin great song, great album 🤘🏽
