This was a fun project. We used approximately two ounces of 99.9% gold in the coating process which is valued at $3500 today, the actual gold used was mined near Baker City Oregon. The gold thickness is approximately 2000 Angstroms thick. The base and clear coat was applied by Greg Bent at Aspen Coatings and finish works was done by Nathan Lembcke and Glenn Rueckert. It is an absolute joy to see this piece on display in Adam's Cave.

I didnt know they worked at industrial light and magic until this. Even more respect now!
I actually know the dude that coated this, he was my dads roommate for a number of years. My dad also was the one who sanded it before getting coated (not the other dude). But it's really cool to know that at one point I got to touch it before it ended up with Adam.

I know it doesn't match the description in the books, but when I read Isaac Asimov's Robot's of Dawn this is how I picture Giskard. (Maybe a little more bulky) If you don't know the book, everyday Auroran robots had pseudo-skin that was designed to look like a cross between clothes and skin in an aversion of the Uncanny Valley, but I just can't see that in my mind. His partner Daneel, being humaniform, always reminded me of a tall Scandinavian.
The best part of 'gold', it's #1 recommended for motherboards.

FYI, it doesn't say *pop*, usually you use an electronbeam to melt the metal to the vaporization point... takes a few minutes to coat that thick layer...
What Star Wars fan wouldn't want one of these!! I noticed a glaring inaccuracy with it though: C-3PO has one lower leg(his right leg, I believe) that looks to be silver in the movie whereas this one appears to be all gold.

Who is here because of the Mandela Effect. In my memory and clearly in Adam's whose take realism to heart think the legs are both gold. I always remember them always being gold but this timeline/universe seems to think it was silver.

I thought that for years until I noticed 3PO has always had a silver leg (even in A New Hope). Some say it's an optical illusion because in some scenes he seems to have 2 golden legs. But look carefully, and you'll see that most of the time, he has his silver leg already. Revenge Of The Sith is the only film where he's shown with 2 perfectly golden legs.

Back in 1968, my Buddy Robert Bookbinder had Don Post masks, which went for about a hundred bucks back then. We were 17 years old. HE got that kinda dough as an allowance back then. I think I got about, well, you know..you could buy a model kit. So, we made a movie...Trick or Treat on Baker St., combining the Sherlock Holmes characters with a search for a missing mummy. I'd love to have that film now....Bob passed in the eighties, and his mother wasn't turning over anything...

IIRC in some scenes his leg is silver and some it is gold. We decided due to concern for the success of the coating process to go for the all gold look. Had the model been broken separated at the knee Adam would have received a silver legged C3PO.

nope, he is using white, they tinge blue because to produce the blue light component to balance with the red and green, it requires more energy, and so less of the overall energy used will go towards producing the red component as the energy peak will be roughly in the blue part of the electromagnetic spectrum
The request from Mr Savage was simply "I want a gold C3PO" which I believe was successfully delivered.

I hate to break it to you Adam but it isn't the only C3PO in gold. My C3PO premiered at SEMA a couple of years ago and he is plated in real gold.
