This from the greatest jazz funk blues album i ever done heard in my life. The Crusaders Those Southern Knights. Will always remind me of 1976 when as a teenager growing up in Fiji, i was blown away by the quality of the music from this, years ahead of it's time album, and the musicians skill when i first heard it. All those years ago, And Still The Greatest. Thanks 4uploading S.S.S.
i dont know what I am going to listen when Larry will go to paradise.....later the better for me. ...this will be a huge change in my life due to the fact that I listen to him since so many years ...as a teen in 1975...Larry and his sound and play are anchored in me...ah ah
Frédéric Jacquet Thanks for your reaction, Frédéric. Well, of course we hope that Larry will stay among us for many years to come and can keep playing live as long as possible! But when artists like Larry have passed away I will keep listening to their recordings and watching their videos. My biggest worry is: will real quality music made by real musicians like Larry exist in the future? Look at the music which is popular now: the music industry is dominated by hip hop and dance music. Well, in my opinion hip hop artists and dj's aren't real musicians. And those non-musicians have driven the real musicians to the background. I'm 57 years old now and many of my music idols have already passed away. Are they replaced by new talents? Have you witnessed the rise of new supergroups like Led Zeppelin, Queen or Pink Floyd? And jazzrock or fusion doesn't exist anymore! Well, I will fight until my last day to make the world not forget that there is or once was very good music, real music, played by fantastic real musicians like Larry Carlton!
Well when you hear Larry, you are listening to a classy guy, playing classy guitar music. Like Robben, who has blessed my life, these guys will Never be replaced. He and Robben started this style of playing. God Bless Larry...
Vic Roberts Yes, God bless Larry and those few other guys and girls who still live and are real Musicians (with capital M!). The sad thing is, they seem to be on the verge of extinction......Let's cherish them, and stay positive..... :-)
They are really classy players to say the least. Lately I've become obsessed with Jack Pearson. He's just stellar and I keep looking for a performance featuring JP with Larry or Robben -- I think the combination would be killer!
@Cicliste C: sorry, my reaction took a while ;-) Best wishes for the new year......as Larry says "time goes fast, man". Yeah, Larry is just a genius. And he is so all round, he could do anything on the guitar, if he wants. But his strong point is that he's a personality, he's 100% himself, pure, sincere, kind, down to earth. No gimmicks, he doesn't need to "show". Those are the great ones! I remember his live performance (on TH-cam) with Steve Lukather, also a gifted guitarist, but with a much louder and fatter sound. First comes Steve, wow, really amazing, he has some show but plays really well, with feel, it's the man's style. I thought "Pfff, now Larry has to come, I'm glad I'm not in his shoes". There he is: down-to-earth-Larry! But with self-confidence! No show, no gimmicks..........he plays with HIS sound, the Larry Carlton sound.......loud enough, sure! But not made fatter to keep up with Steve.......it'd be easier to impress.......but WOW WOW WOWWWWW............there's Larry.......mr.335 himself......the only one.......as bluesy as hell, I mean heaven........builds up his solo.......he plays from his heart, from his TOES.......the best blues player in the world......and Steve knows it! He is impressed!.........but Larry doesn't give a shit about it........he goes on playing and enjoying, being himself, coz there's only one Larry Carlton.......who doesn't have to prove anything...........Those are the ones!.........
SixStringSurfer.... Your Spot on!! I saw Larry Carlton in concert in San Diego after he recouped from the gun shot and... he came walking out on stage in a Hawaiian shirt, faded levi's, no socks and blue tennies. He was grateful to be back on tour... he was grateful to be anywhere he told us. It was late in the afternoon and close to sunset over San Diego/Shelter Island, there was a warm breeze and then... and then... the music started AND Larry Carlton did his MAGIC. Absolutely the best concert I have ever been to... beautiful bay with sunset, chilled white wine, sailboats docked next to the event and appreciative listeners enjoying the best live jazz by Larry Carlton AND my sweetie next to me. I'll NEVER forget it......................SUPERB!!!!
Hi - I was at that concert (New Morning, Paris) and thought exactly the same thing as you. The contrast between the two was terrific and Larry was ... well Larry. Steve Lukather's enormous love and respect for Larry was one of the things that most struck me about that evening. He is the same as all of us in his love for this great musician.
Larry is a gem. Had a chance to chat with him at the Ventura Theater years ago. Just a regular guy. Robben Ford is cut from the same cloth. I had not personally met Robben before, but at a studio session, I run into this guy getting coffee - jeans, t-shirt, quiet, nice, polite. New guy to the studio. I was surprised to realize this was the Robben Ford. I had a chance to sit in a session with him for 8 hours. The cat never repeated the same idea twice in that entire session. The great ones let their playing make the statement for them. They don't need to "sell" it through personal affect.
I have seen that vid and I think Lukather was intimidated as he knows Larry is a far superior musician, not just a superior guitarist. Not having a go at Lukather as I have massive respect for him also.
Legendaarinen jazz-kitaristi Eric Gale on tehnyt tästä kappaleesta hienon version..sessio-/studiomuusikko,jolla oli usein soittokavereina mm. Marcus Miller,Richard Tee,Steve Gadd,Ralph Mc Donald, jne, jne. 🤩👍🎸🎼
Robben Ford is a very good guitarist, too. And he's also a master of the blues, like Larry. I think Larry is the greatest master of the blues guitar, that's why I like him so much. And (one of) his most impressing live performance(s), to me, was the concert he did together with Lee Ritenour in Tokyo, 1995. Fantastic! Watch it on TH-cam.............
Thanks for the info, Lee! I leave the title as it is, because the video is drawing a lot of attention; but I'll add your info to the description under the video.
I loved the bit in this gig when he threw the plastic in his mouth and just used fingernails....about 7:45 mins in. Only ever used my nails & flesh. You know where you are with n & f....personal thing.
The piano intro is great ....unfortunately it can't be heard correctly when it comes to his chorus . No matter .....it's un upper class Band . THANKS AND " bravo "
biggless beagle Hi, I don't know the drummer's name. Never saw him before, suppose he is a session player. But he is damned good, in everything he plays!
It is wonderful to see Larry and his son Travis playing together..
Yes, and Travis is absolutely a top bass player!

You're welcome, Clifford!
One of my favourite albums of all time, up there with The Royal Scam.
Great sounds.
I truly believe Larry has such a blend of every genre in his playing that it makes him the absolute very best....Larry. You da Man!

How he plays funky nobody else could it ! Wonderful Larry !!
Yeah, Larry is a fantastic guitar player; his timing, phrasing, improvising, sound, joy of playing, wonderful!
Superb...on every level
Thank you : )
Wonderful. Some of his solo chords around the 8 minute mark are beautiful.
Greatful!🔊
SO tasty. This track and performance is just fab. His playing is so understated and full of feel.
Groovy and cool performance 😎🎸
I hope he will visit Denmark somtime, they are just fantastic.
He is playing in Copenhagen january 2016, just got tickets :-) can't wait...

No one floats the blues as melodically as the great LC!
God his tone is heavenly....
I think that's up to God...since you brought it up.
This was on the Crusader's "Those Southern Knights" album. Written by Joe Sample. Pops Popwell played bass on that version.
+robert macauley Yes, I was told the title of the song is "My Mama Told Me So". (I knew the Crusaders, but didn't know all the titles)
R.I.P Joe Sample....
One of the best!
Sure, Larry's one of the best!
Might just seem like really good music to most but to a guitarist this is jaw-dropping!
Rikk303 Sure, it is! Mr. 335 still has it and I hope we can enjoy his playing for years to come!
The man has touch for days. Without peer.

That is an old Crusader's tune called 'Mama told me so'. (Larry played on the track.)
Thanks for the info, Lee! I leave the title as it is, because the video is drawing a lot of attention; but I'll add your info to the description under the video.
Probably not your thing Chris Gill but you have to love the way of this master. He knocks me out personally.
It was actually originally titled MY Mama Told Me So.
Always liked this soulful tune.
+Jon Hanson Thanks for your info, Jon, I'll correct it!
Larry is so amazing... the best in my opinion. I know, I know! Some of you just freaked... BUT I really think is the best. Peace.
what a fckg groove ! omg so good to be funky !
Wow, this is I ussualy heard on midnight radio
i like it indeed
Great!!!
Thanks! Please watch my other 5 Larry Carlton videos on TH-cam. Perhaps you've already discovered them?
Do I spy Marcus Finnie?! Miss u buddy, sounds great as always. I owe Travis a phone call. I’ll call Kenny and get the updated digits.
@Cicliste C: you're absolutely right!
Quality..
Larry's son Travis on bass.
I loved the bit in this gig when he threw the plastic in his mouth and just used fingernails....about 7:45 mins in. Only ever used my nails & flesh. You know where you are with n & f....personal thing.
Love the drumming also
Wooooowww!
yep
The piano intro is great ....unfortunately it can't be heard correctly when it comes to his chorus . No matter .....it's un upper class Band . THANKS AND " bravo "
The Chikenを意識してる?
The first melody, sounded like The Chiken theme.
Sei bravo
Ciao da Cristofaro Esposito allievo di Adriano Guarino.
Crusaders age
MecPex That's right!
Domenico marzocca
Great keyboard! Thank God he didn't whip out a Hammond sound.
What’s wrong with Hammond? One of the best and most iconic sounds on the planet.
Larry looks like Mark Knopfler without pick.
sounds like a steely dan song
Who plays the drums?
biggless beagle Hi, I don't know the drummer's name. Never saw him before, suppose he is a session player. But he is damned good, in everything he plays!
Bass Player?
Travis Carlton - Larry's son.
Travis Carlton, has become quite the musician himself!
Stuff
エリック・ゲイル
sounds like big black cow steely dan
Great!
Andrejs Jevsjukovs Thanks!
