Got the 'chance' to take a ride in the right seat of one of these (in return for a favor I did the pilot) at night on a run over the DPRK with a SLAR underneath. I was told later we'd been as low as 50 'but never higher than 250' for most of the run. Probably just as well it was at night .... if I'd seen then what I just saw on this video the crew chief would've needed a fire hose to clean the cockpit. Whew! Pilot was damn good!!!!

I want to start by saying, THANK YOU SIR for your service to our country, the reason I found your video, was because of Cpt. Lee, who shot down a MiG 17, the only Army pilot to have a confirmed kill since WWII, which my grandfather was in the South Pacific. Amazing footage, and your right, that river would have probably been a great place to fish 🐟, thanks 🙏 again for your sacrifice for the USA 🇺🇸

Thanks for the film! I was an Image Interpreter in the 244th Avn. Co, in Can Tho, 69-70. The only times I got to fly was when it was mission critical and they wanted me to make sure the pilot flew where he needed to. The canals were somewhat wider than that river you were flying, and I had one ride slewing around the curves where we were below the palm trees on each side. No mountains in the Delta to fly around. An altogether interesting year there.

Hello! I worked the APS-94 Radar and the TKQ-2 Van... Those were the days. I worked it up to the late 80's as it was used to fly counter narc recon runs in remote areas of the Bahamas. Also did allot of work with unattended ground sensors used during the now declassified Igloo white operation. Those systems were used for counter narc operations right up until 1990. I really loved the work.. These systems back then were state of the art and way ahead of their time.. Take Care! Thanks for your Service.

Thank you for the phenomenal upload and much more, your service. I've read and studied about the air war in SEA for decades, so you could perhaps clear up a disputed point for me. Were OV-1s flown armed during your time in South Vietnam? Of course the bird was designed to carry a substantial payload of ordinance but the Air Force carped at that and the Johnson Agreement of 1966 had the Army formally forego having armed fixed wing aircraft. Nevertheless, many sources do maintain that armed flights were still flown, if not against orders, at least sort of under the radar. Any comment on that? I'd really appreciate any of the thoughts of a crewman with direct knowledge.
Thank you again and God bless!

Reminds me of the time we tried to fly the Panama Canal and stay within the channel markers. Not possible in a P-3, flying at 1,500 feet at about 250 KIAS. But, we tried! If I ever come across the videocassette tape (unless my son recorded WWF WrestleMania over it!) I'll have to post it.

Did you ever cross paths with 1st Lt Clarence Lee Cossey? He was my brother and flew in Vietnam. After tour there he was stationed at Ft Lewis, Washington. He and another officer crashed and died during a training exercise there. S&R couldn't get to them for three days due to weather conditions. Of course, we the family, never got a detailed report of what caused the crash. It was 3 days of hell.

I was at Marble Mountain Air Field in the 647th Support Det as a Spc 5 from Aug 67 to Oct 68. I was good friends with a Crew Chief in the 225th. I remember the TET Offensive in early 68. I also remember building those aircraft revetments using 55 gal barrels, filling with sand and using our crane to stack them 3 levels high. I am looking to locate buddy's that were there during same time period. If you know anyone, email me at donald.braun@sbcglobal.net

On more than one occasion, I had to fly at tree top level in marginal VFR conditions in Laos. My greatest fear was to be snared by a cable stretched between two hill tops.
