In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens th-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
It will get the job done if that's all you feel like spending. You probably won't see fish on the side imaging unless your zoomed in and the conditions are perfect. But side imaging shines not by detecting fish but by detecting bottom changes and allows you to easily follow them. I will never own anther boat without side imaging. If I had to choose between side imaging or down I would take side. But the good thing is if you pay for side you get down imaging.
For 3-4 Benjamins you get everything but in a tiny package. 5 inch screen is adequate but you'll want the unit about 20 inches from your eyeballs. I got hook2 5 ts and sure I wish it was bigger but I can buy a lot of bait with the loot it takes to go up to the 9 inch screen..
Do you ever catfish and put it on film I would love to see that that's what I loved watching I love this video I wish I had a fish finder like that what kind is it your friend Ray
Thanks Ray, happy to call you friend as well. Here is a good catfish video from the Red River in North Dakota. (Technique is universal) th-cam.com/video/ldGx8V9ynpQ/w-d-xo.html
As with all techno gadgetry "it depends". The hummingbird software has more settings and is more adjustable and is superior in certain things like changing frequencies. The Lowrance is more set up to be on auto. So if you love fiddling with things...hummingbird. if you just want to fish...Lowrance. The best fish finders are Garmin. I bought a hook2 5 ts because I'm a tightwad. So far I'm liking it a lot. Chart plotting for under $400 with side imaging etc. What a deal.
Nolander520 absolutely not, and we made a strong effort in the video and the video description to say side imaging is based on need and budget. For many, only 2D sonar is necessary. The intent is to show that side imaging works. The consumer decides what’s appropriate for them. As you mention a SI equipped HELIX 7 or HELIX 5 at $500 may be the right product.
Agreed. Bigger screens are better for this. I have a Helix 5 and I don’t even use side imagining. If I had 3 or 4 given to me like pros do, I wouldn’t get anything smaller than a 10 inch screen. But since I have to buy them myself I’ll just use my 5’s.
Nathan R yes, I got helix 5si as well and I can only use one side at a time to see anything. The helix 5, 7, and 9 have the same resolution, and I haven't see a good video with anything less than the 10
Hi there. Hoping for some help. I just bought a used boat and it has a hummingbird 797c2 gps side imaging that came with it. When i put the view to si the screen stays black. Tried the reset and its still black what could be the issue?? Thanks.
Hi Jason, the first thing I'd check is sensitivity. If it's on a low setting, you may not be getting a return signal. Also try adjusting your range inward, say 60', which produces an excellent readout on average. If it's still black, it could be the transducer isn't talking to the unit (networking) and lastly, the ducer or head unit could be defective. Are you getting a down imaging readout?
SI is definitely a game changer on any body of water. It cuts the learning curve by years.... Cool drone footage👍👍👍
This is what I need for my kayak to complete my build.

Hi There. Are the Hummingbird good for marked fish trap? I'm a fish trap fisherman. Need answers. Thanks
Definite advantage for any bass angler who can afford it (or buys it regardless).
Excellent job. Thank you very much!
Can I ask what camera were you using for under water view with the Marshall 508 monitor??
Thanks
Paul.
how about showing me what a fish looks like on the si
Would a 5in get the job done or waste or money for side imaging lowrance hook2 5 tps
jave I own a hds7 gen 2 touch and if I could own a hummingbird helix I would in a heart beat there side imaging is next level. I’d get a 9”+

Another hummingbird video, with a hummingbird hat.
humminbird better than Lowrance?
Filip Hummingbird is the Telsa of cars vs Lowrance which is a level or two behind like a Honda
@@deltapromasterlauj4848 Some say Lowrance displays better details than Humminbird. Humminbird says he can't draw accurately

So side imaging is only worth it if it's Mega Side Imaging and bigger screen? So it's not worth it on helix 7?

Bigger is better when it comes to seeing things like bass on the screen

Nolander520 - Is your opinion that side imaging is not beneficial/ useful on a 7" screen? I want one for my yak.
Great video.

Thanks for the info, will try... 2d sonar is working fine.. Will update you and again thanks.
@@jasonkennedy6650 does the down imaging work?
Try spraying the contacts where it connects to the unit with electrical contact cleaning spray.
Cool video
