so good - you can really hear how simple the song actually is - truly burns down to the fact that good songs are just good songs and you cant sugar coat the fact that talent cant be bought with better equipment. I also never noticed that amazing synth line during the chorus

Yes, same here! I love noticing the little things that seem very hidden until you actually hear them. This song is so simple, yet I find myself hearing more of the instruments and other elements every time I listen.

@@angc1456 Actually it is a simple song. Basic E major tree chords. Standard song structure.
Unlike Classical or Jazz for example that is more complicated. But the energy and presentation that makes this kind of songs sounds good

    Shakedown, 1979
Cool kids never have the time
On a live wire right up off the street
    You and I should meet
June bug skipping like a stone
    Headlights pointed at the dawn
We were sure we'd never see an end to it all
And I don't even care to shake these zipper blues
And we don't know just where our bones will rest
To dust, I guess forgotten and absorbed to the earth below
Double cross the vacant and the bored
They're not sure just what we have in store
Morphine city slippin' dues down to see
That we don't even care as restless as we are
We feel the pull in the land of a thousand guilts
And poured cement, lamented and assured
To the lights and towns below
Faster than the speed of sound
Faster than we thought we'd go
    Beneath the sound of hope
    Justine never knew the rules
Hung down with the freaks and the ghouls
No apologies ever need be made
I know you better than you fake it to see
That we don't even care to shake these zipper blues
And we don't know just where our bones will rest

It's about growing up. It was his last of 59 demos for the album and when the producer said it wasn't good enough, he finished it in 4 hours and it blew everyone's mind. It's about not giving up, about striving to grow and 1979 was the yr he turned 12 which he believed to be the turning point to becoming a man, growing up.

@@lunarpking to elaborate more, they are longing for love which they have not gotten from their fathers while growing up. That is why they are weak, the hatred they have against their mothers(though may be hidden to them, because their puffed-up ego gets in the way of seeing clearly) are the root of their unhappiness. So they cling to whatever physical thing that can remove them farther from reality. That's why people do drugs and such things. Cure is forgiveness, facing your parents, and thus overcoming childhood traumas, and God forgiving you.

Shakedown 1979, cool kids never have the time
On a live wire right up off the street
    You and I should meet
June bug skipping like a stone
With the headlights pointed at the dawn
We were sure we'd never see an end to it all
And I don't even care to shake these zipper blues
And we don't know just where our bones will rest
    To dust I guess
Forgotten and absorbed into the earth below
Double cross the vacant and the bored
They're not sure just what we have in store
Morphine city slippin' dues, down to see
That we don't even care, as restless as we are
We feel the pull in the land of a thousand guilts
And poured cement, lamented and assured
To the lights and towns below
Faster than the speed of sound
Faster than we thought we'd go, beneath the sound of hope
    Justine…
