    I started buying "used" knives... Helps me get over the "too nice" to use thing.
    I gift a lot of knives to friends and family... Many of the knives never get out of the box.
    I'm starting to let my nephew try out knives in my carry rotation and let him keep the ones he likes...
    Great video. Thank you! : )

      That’s a great way to go about it, and I have a quite a bit I acquired used. That’s great. I find it as, if not more, enjoyable to give someone you love a knife, than buying a new knife for myself. I have a few picked out for my nephew already, and he’ll probably get my collection when I die. Thanks a lot man

    The only thing I disagree with is crk being as good as it gets on production, I would say it's spyderco, they are running there steels in 2022 at optimal range hrc and very consistent especially compared to everyone else, and they do an abundance of steels, love seeing uou back brotha, this community is amazing and I love seeing the OGs still involved. For me personally it's very therapeutic.

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The amount of steels, treated well, and plethora of designs and models definitely give Spyderco a special place in the ranks, and always one of my favorites. I just think as overall build quality, heat treat, consistency… I think that’s where CRK takes it for me. I can definitely appreciate where you’re coming from though. Thank you my friend. I’m glad you enjoyed it.

      I want a crk but I never can get one without weird inserts in the handle. I just want the plain Jane all metal scales. One day I'll have the cash and the knife I desire will be available

    • @CNYKnifeNerd
      @CNYKnifeNerd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're both the peak of production knives, but for different reasons.
      It's basically apples to oranges to compare the two. If you do try to find a common denominator then it inevitably leads you to the Slysz Bowie, which doesn't even remotely belong in a discussion about CRK quality.
      Overall, it's like saying Chevrolet is better than Koenigsegg because they sell more cars, and those cars are made well.
      No disrespect to Spyderco, they're probably the only company I actually legitimately respect.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CNYKnifeNerd they are absolutely 2 different apples, and I'm not saying crk has a poor heat treatment but spyderco heat treatments are far superior to there's, crk has been known for running there s35vn on the softer side so that it's easier to sharpen in the field, I can't speak to there S45VN but spyderco has consistently ran there steels all at optimal range hrc for superior edge retention, even though they are using so many different steels, and I'm not bashing crk I love them but it just it's just how it is especially the past 3 years

    Surprised more people haven't talked about this! It's such a wild obsession most people think is crazy. I've been in it for 4 years and I'm still in the early phases of excitement although it comes and goes in waves. Constantly fighting the urge to buy a new knife every month. I get so particular over getting every knife perfect with drop shut action, centered, no blade play, razor sharp, etc. Really appreciate what you said about not needing the drop shut action. Great to hear other people's perspective. Cheers!

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s definitely not something you share with everyone haha yeah, I definitely simmered a bit, but it’s still there. Yeah, I can definitely understand the urge for perfection. Glad you enjoyed. Cheers!

    I enjoyed the video and can totally relate. I'm 51 years old and loving the hobby like a 10 year old with GI Joe's. I started with Spyderco and topped with CRK Sebenza for my 50th birthday.
    From there, I moved from knife style to knife style. My last 2 purchases were a SAK Explorer with the plus scales that I carry in a brown leather slip from ETSY, and 4 days ago I got my Chaves ultramar 229 Redencion Kickstop that is just a sleek, beefy, slab of badassery.
    I agree CRK is the pinnacle but there are some slick knives out there that I'd love to get my hands on. I love what ProTech brings to the table as a company. Their lineup is always interesting and innovative. I love my Malibu. But then I think, "a Shiro would look great in my collection someday". So, yeah. It never ends, my friend.

    The paths we are on are very similar. As a maintenance tech I get the best use out of sheep foot blades less than 3" with stock less than .125". Those types of blades are what I'm after. I have just as much fun fidgeting a lockback on washers as I do anything else. I really dig keeping the edges hair popping sharp. I have an AD20.5 with a Shark Foot blade, if you would like to try it out let me know.

    Over here in England, it's complicated selling knives, which are not legal to carry, ie, all locking knives, and anything with a blade length over 3 inches,,..
    So, I have to buy knives which I intend to keep permanently, and obviously this makes buying, a whole different ball game,,
    Yes, I have the addiction, (and a permanently growing collection 🤣),,
    if I had an easy way, to sell /exchange, some of my knives, I'd be a lot happier too,,
    Great video,, thanks,,

    A military buddy got a little too messed up one day at my place, ended up leaving his Gerber 06 auto and they was it for me. It snowballed into the Benchmades, then spyderco shortly after. Then I remember when I got my first CRK. Then Shirogorov, CKF and it got out I’d hand fairly quickly. I’m now dabbling into customs and I can’t just buy a ton of them so I literally just enjoy the time I have with it and move it along to try something else that I’m eyeing. I can’t collect now, but still get that same feeling when I get a new knife. I’ve given a couple friends some knives too and that also made me happy. It’s definitely a crazy feeling and to me it never gets old.

    the 2 that sent me down the rabbit hole where the rat 1 and tenacious. still have both and I've been back to edc for probably about 7 years. as I've gone through this I've spent the last few years on the flavor of the month budget knives. I'm currently moving more towards higher quality and knives I really want. you tube is a big part of my social aspect of the community along with ig I just need to watch to support and not get wrapped into the hype. Great video 👍

    Awesome video Kenny! I truly enjoyed it! It brought back memories of when I got bit by the knife addiction bug. I’m also pretty simmered or marinated. I’m to the point to where I know what I like and I’m content with what I have. It’s been a long journey but it’s been a very enjoyable journey with great memories. But it can be very expensive and things can get carried away if you’re not disciplined. From Knives, sharpening stones, sharpening systems emulsions knife containers knife e storage etc. But it’s awesome to hear and see other people get bitten by the bug and see their true excitement that they have for the Knife world . One thing I have learned overtime is the beauty in a knife as it ages from use. It’s something that needs to be experienced in order to truly appreciate the knife and to truly know it. I think More of the knife community needs to experience this in order to come full circle with knowing their knives. Also like you said knowing how to sharpen your knives is a huge deal and also very enjoyable and gives you more insight to your knives . Have a great weekend Kenny!

    I was on that buying train for a while, got up to buying benchmades, then slowed down, then I got a bugout reblade and now I don't have a lot of desire to get much more. Might pick up a sebenza at some point after selling off some other knives. I'm glad this reblade quelled that fire, I'm much happier using and getting to know my knives for longer vs using one for a few months then looking for something new.

    Nice video man, definitely needed. I think I have waves of this more obsessive buying that goes up and down according to what/when I can afford. For me watching videos is not the best way of curbing the hunt because it just sparks new avenues I want to explore haha.
    You prob already know this, but I'm sure you'll be happy to know that crk are planning to switch to magnacut at 64-65hrc (last I heard a few months ago, might be outdated now). If that will be the case I don't think I'll be able to resist buying one!
