@@MrGTAmodsgerman electroforming to be more specific, you can plate metal onto plastics that way , u can buy kits for plating gold , chrome , copper I believe

There has got to be a better way to do this so you dont end up with results like this with all the creases and overlapping imperfections.

Yea, there is a better one. Called eletroplating which actually makes real metal onto the piece which you polish then down to chrome.
