I have never done that. I always shape it to the form of the dial as I apply it. It IS pliable, so I am thinking it could be shaved with an exacto blade. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
I've got a question about mechanical timepiece storage, i.e. pocket watches, wrist watches. Planning on displaying and storing some of my pocket watches within a wall-mounted 'shadow box' type of cabinet with a hinged glass door. My concern is that this cabinet has a strong magnetic 'latch' feature that holds the door shut (instead of a typical mechanical lock or latch). Would this magnetic field be damaging to the watches? They would be sitting within one inch of the magnet latch. Maybe you've already done a video on this subject, but am anxious to hear your opinion on this matter, and what you recommend for best storage practices of our timepieces. Thanks so much for your time!! (apologies for the long-winded ramble!)
I display my watches inside a wall cabinet also. My cabinet has a mechanical latch. I'm not sure about the latch on your cabinet with the magnetic latch . I know you should keep watches away from strong magnets like speakers, electronic equipment.Could you replace the magnetic latch on your cabinet with a mechanical latch?
@@myhobbiesarenotcheap I possibly could. Interesting thing though, I recently took my compass (high quality) and passed each of my pocket watches over the compass. WOW!! About half showed no magnetism at all, the other half made the compass go wild. I never realized a watch could still run with that much magnetism.
@@santaclause2875 That's interesting about the magnetism. I have a demagnetizer that I bought on line it works well.I have to use it to demagnetize my watch tools and watches that are shipped through the mail. A magnetized watch will run but will not keep good time.
Awesome. Thanks for posting!!!

Good tip. Thanks for sharing. Can this repair be carved to match the shape of the dial?
