  • Ken Irvine is one of the greatest footballers in Australian Rugby League history. He died in late 1990 at the young age of 50 after a long and courageous battle against Leukaemia. Here's a tribute done to him in 1991 from Channel 10. Irvine still holds the record for most tries in premiership football and most tries for Australia in Test matches.

As a Brit the first test I ever saw on the TV was the Swinton massacre in 1963. Ken Irvine's the greatest winger I've ever seen. Anyone who's a lover of the game should watch the GB tourists in 1966 and the game against NSW on the Sydney Cricket Ground. In a very close game, Irvine stood out, ending with 3 tries, one of which is the best winger's try I've ever seen. Left us far too soon.

Irvine and Ron Coote are genuine Immortals, about time they get th Award from those officiating.

He reminds me of the All Black Christian Cullen, similar characteristics, could sprint of a standing start, and leave everyone for dead, could step of either foot, found himself in the most uncanny places to receive the ball, and set up other players. Brilliant to watch. Ken was a once in a generation player.

Wingers these days approach his amount of tries but those who do are in a teams with many incredible players like Cameron Smith. Irvine became the best try scorer ever playing for the fricking North Sydney Bears for the majority of his career.

You sound like a kid who only supports the team coming first which is extremely shallow.

I didn't see your comment before but I was pointing out how incredible his ability was. If say Josh Ado Carr keeps playing with the Storm he'll probably surpass Irvine's number of tries but it can't be compared because of the teams they played for. That's what I was saying.

He’s not the best, his ratio has been beaten by several others, even in his competition.

Nobody will ever beat his try scoring record.

Shame this clip doesn't have Norths footage, therefore it's not really a tribute considering the amount of tries he scored for them.

Because there is an agenda to eradicate the memory of foundation clubs. They only have to talk about them when they have no choice. This is why we don’t have any mention of Balmain, North Sydney & Newtown. If it wasn’t for those teams there would be no Rugby League
