Paul is very impressive in many ways. I appreciate his decision to move closer to family, and wish him the best.
Oberhasli goats are so pretty. I like the goat fencing.
He's asking $450,000 it's a great place for someone who wants nobody around them and having to travel for everything is harder than you would think. It's hard for places like that too get back what you have put in back, ... he's gonna take a Big Hit on it... good luck though living bye yourself is not good for the head after a Year or two....
Pefect for me !!!!!!
Nah
No these places sell quick up there I know someone who just sold 40 acres north of Concho had a 2300 SQ log cabin home on it with a barn, and round pen setup for horses. They have lived there since 1980's passed away 2 months ago her kids got it appraised it at 500k. Sold in 3 weeks I think they under priced could have easily gotten 800k. Real Estate market is crazy here with all the baby boomers retiring last 4 years they have lot of money to spend before they give up the ghost.
I hate seeing someone walk away from their dreams... very sad video.
I'm impressed....Paul did a FANTASTIC job creating this paradise. I noticed it's no longer for sale....I'm hoping he solved his family situation and decided to stay.
Paul should be really proud of the place he built.
Those "cedar" trees are actually Utah shaggy bark junipers.
I, like you, didn't think the high desert would be so productive. And the amount of work that went into all that, whew! I'm sure Paul will have a great future, as I am sure his skills and knowledge can be monetized greatly in this particular time in America.
Thanks for bringing this to us...I would never have known!
Everyone I see doing this says they are selling or moving after 1 or 2 years of it.
It's solid labor
Amazing homestead. Love this! Thanks so much for sharing. Can see how hard Paul worked on it, he should be super proud of himself, great place!
How much?
450k
Junipers not cedars. It's a pinyon-juniper woodland, and also grassland. It's not a "desert". That's why you don't see saguaros and other cacti. It's much too cold where this place is. 'Red Tool' you do act like an Easterner. You should do some reading on the area where you are video-ing.
HOW MUCH WAS HE ASKING? I don't have time to watch a 54 mns. video.
Have cabin near Flagstaff. Gets 10 below at times. Water is trucked in .
I really found this video interesting and useful. I’m on my own high desert adventure with 40 acres. I cannot even imagine what the labor alone would have cost him if he did not do so much of the work himself. Worth every bit of the $450,000 asking.
In northern AZ you are not going to be farming anything, not enough water, maybe steers but nothing else.
Did he ever say how much he’s asking for this off grid farm. Love that area
Troy, like what you're doing. Paul, hope it pays off for you. Being that I'm in my mid 60,'s I'm satisfied living in SW Pa.
BUT, ...if I was younger.... (35...40 ) I would entertain the thought. It's a money maker! Hope you sell and can pursue the next stage of your life. Thanks for sharing Troy.
Paul,... Thanks for the work you put into this place. There's someone willing to take the baton and continue to make it happen! Peace, quiet, and self preservation!
Awesome!
No longer on the market. Interesting, did it sell? Or did he decide not to sell?
My husband & I drove by here a few weeks ago, we have been thinking about this property & are really interested in it, it is everything we have been dreaming about. we are seriously wanting this property
What is he asking ?
Lived up in that neck of the woods water is an issue.
I'm from Maine and have no desire to live in the desert, but that is an awesome homestead. He has thought of everything. I love that he has put in redundancy on so many systems. Love the root cellar in the mechanic's pit, the huge chicken run, multiple fenced areas with shelters for animals, huge garden, lots of perennials and fruit trees. Wow. Really nice place. Thanks for the tour.
That is anything but a desert
This is considered High Desert and we are called the White Mountains of Arizona. At approximately 5500 feet we even have snow on the ground. No temperatures that most think because the movies always show Phoenixes temperatures. This areas normal summer temperatures Usually fall Between 75 and 90, not the 110 - 130 temps in Phoenix. A great place to visit as I did in 1996 and then moved my family here.
I've lived in Maine the last 22 years. Lived in Arizona for 9 years. I love both. The area where this homestead is, isn't really "desert", just high elevation and somewhat arid.
Did he ever say how much he wanted for his place?
I’m not sure why people call it a desert actually. I suppose it does get relatively low rainfall… avg 20” a year… but Sonora and Mojave and areas along the inland of the California coast, get a lot less rain than this area… like an avg of 9”, sometimes slightly more… also the summers are very mild maybe reaching into the 90’s in the afternoons and it gets a grip ton of snow. It’s more like a plateau adjacent to a huge ponderosa pine forest. This area is only about 20 or thirty minutes (depending on exact location) from what I believe is the world’s largest ponderosa pine forest. I have lived in this area AND the Sonoran and Mojave deserts AND the so cal inland empire.. this place is NOTHING like a desert. But frankly, I’m kinda glad people think that way!
Love Arizona and would never leave! I’ve been here 37 years! It’s a special place!
I lived in Arizona for eight years but New Mexico is better to me. But I like Paul’s homestead.
It's he'll on earth but that keeps the people away, the reason I stay.
Great property and he's done some nice work on it. Good luck with the sale.
I'm just wondering why he's leaving a life style he built for hime self and won't ever get it back, seems silly to me. But either way great homestead
LONESOME
Boring and lonely. Lost interest in the place, did all the affordable projects and now needs money to keep improving.
Just the rodents alone will drive anymore crazy. 🐀
WATER !
@@edura2188 crossed my mind
This is my dream.... To get out of phx area. Was looking at raw land to start my property! This would be perfect !!!!!
The work he has put in this place is almost as impressive as the thought/planning.
2 is 1 and 1 is none. 👍🖖-KJ
Totally agree. He is making the right decision.
I may not know a lot but I do know that there is one lucky duck out there, loving their new homestead.
Homesteading in Az isnt all that great of an idea if you have the idea of raising any kind of livestock as a source of meat. I lived there a lil over 15 years and loved it there...but there is a whole lot of common sense that goes against buying land there if you raise any kind of livestock. And yes, I know people run cattle there. I have been a working cowboy going on 40 years. But just because they do it, in no way means its smart. If you think so, check the stocking rates per acre on cattle and get back to me.
My inlaws tried it they had 100 acres near Durango, CO. After he got done with it said lot easier to buy a stake from Walmart LOL. I don't think he made a penny maybe broke even.
I put my card on his gate. I suspect the reason hes selling the property is that he has created a complicated infrastructure mess that requires too much maintenance and effort. Everything is too compartimentalized and the gardens have no native ecology to stabalize and work with soil building. Had he contacted me and taken some advice he might of had the opportunity to streamline and simplify the ecological maintenance issues.
That is an amazing self sustaining setup! The Jerusalem Artichoke it supposed to be an awesome survival food. If nothing else this video is a great resource for off grid ideas, but to someone looking to move out west it’s a great turnkey opportunity! Thanks for making this video Troy!
Great interview and tour! That is a really nice property. It is so peaceful and quiet out there.
Amazing is an understatement to describe his place. It is a turn key operation for the next homesteader. I hope he gets a fair price.
Not my thing to live in that climate but very nice job. I can tell you put a lot of work in. Hope you find a seller, I have been wondering how the off grid market is doing. Seems everyone went bonkers buying and I wonder how many are now having second thoughts 😂
Cool dog, I used to have a bulldog.
Lots of pack rats. Pack rats eat the soy bean coating on vehicle wires.
I am SO jealous, looks like paradise
Its impressive how people are able to cultivate in places as harsh as Arizona. It's definitely a good place to increase plant productivity.

Is it sold?? Couldnt find any info on it
@charlestupperrealtor we have a place in Seligman and we love it
Wow, just wow! I’ve been watching prepper channels for awhile now and this farm is a real winner! Paul has thought of everything! I’m too old to do anything like this (pushing 80) but if I could….when the SHTF….you folks are gonna be okay! BTW, I’m in a Phoenix suburb and he’s not kidding! It’s a scorcher! Paul, I wish you well! You’ve done a fabulous job and have thought of things others haven’t! ❤so love it! Thx for the video to both of you! Good luck and God bless!
I would like to see this man develop home at a reasonable price for people who needs homes for their growing families. He is amazing. As he ages it will be hard for him to manage such a large working homestead but there are other areas where he can take his talents.
What a well thought out homestead. Really liking their setup
Water how about water?
What is the asking price of northern AZ?
Nice place friends are selling their family home just appraised for $500k North of Concho they have 2 wells and 2500 sq foot log cabin home built on a foundation with a 2 story barn, lighted arena, round pen on 40 acres. Mature pine trees planted in the 1980's this property is unique one owner wish I was ready to move up there now but stuck down in Phoenix until I retire.
All of that work and money I wonder why he decided to move on after 7 years. He knew his family was far when he moved there
We just purchased 40 acres in north Arizona. Cannot wait to get our forever home built!
I just bought 42 acres there too, last week...The land in this video is located near Taylor... Mine is further East and North near St. Johns. My vacant land cost under $25,000.00, has a POA
(Property Owners Association $180.00 year) that maintains the dirt roads and provides a Water Well nearby ! I'm headed down there from Oregon in a week or two to Scope it out !
Good luck with your new land !
*FJB !*
I’m planning to purchase a property at Apache county.
We're building right now near Kingman
@@nmbillr1
Yes, Red Sky Ranch !
@@nmbillr1 Greetings... I had to postpone my trip to see my new property because of the heat.
I'll be headed down in mid September.
Can't wait !
It seems kinda sad to leave all that behind after so much work but I understand family matters which brought me to the Arizona High Desert with an opportunity to homestead. I only have 3 acres and that's enough for me right now.
Good job Troy. Do you have a second mic that you can use to record both of you (DJI Mic works really well and has two included)? This is an unusual video since most of the videos are Appalachian based. It could open up possibilities for some one.
I hope he finds a buyer.
1. The website link doesnt work 2. how much is the property being offered for sale?
Can you please give us the details to contact the seller or realtor
My parents lived in Show Low up the mountain and had a few friends live out that way. It’s a nice peaceful area, water could be an issue out there. There was a huge hydroponic farm not to far away, not sure if it’s still there.
I hope you find a buyer. That is nothing I would touch with a ten foot pole.
It's definitely not for lazy people.
@@KaleidoscopeJunkie Or good quality cattle.
@@KaleidoscopeJunkieor anyone who doesn't want to pay 15k per acre for a few improvements and another 20 acres of desert. The guy did good work with what he did but that price is ridiculous.
Anyone looking at the big picture can see the value in his set-up/location. Preps and redundancy bring peace of mind. THAT IS the voice of experience. @@Dan-oz4qb
Such a beautifully layed out property. One of a kind. Probably worth more than he is asking. This man is so talented. He should be a community developer. He is so smart. He will do great things somewhere else. Wish him the best. What a lucky person who will walk into a developed property that is so special.
Paul's homestead is amazing! We have 10 acres south of Tucson that we might be selling soon. We are looking for land in AR to start our homestead. I wish Paul the best of luck in his new adventures! ❤
If it was so great you wouldent want to leave?
Did you watch the video? Both questions were addressed in the video.
Awesome farm. We would have moved there but they had no jobs to supplement income. Blessings brother.
This guy has money or came from money.
He bought it 10 years ago lot cheaper 1/8 the cost of today.
I'm way too old now. But there was a time. Very nice. There is a great backstory here. Seems like a great guy.
Excellent video - Thanks!
Thank you very interesting video, I havw almost &5 acres in Clay West Virginia at the moment I have a 12X24 cabin I am trying to get finished after I get the road extended to it...
How far are you from Clay???
We are in Lincoln county. Clay is an hour away for me
@@RedToolHouse May till whenever I plan on trying to get my road extended about 1,000 feet and get it rocked and graveled then get a contractor in to finish the camp so I can move into it and got from there...
I might see about buying some chicken or pork if you have some then and I stay on my property and got a grill...
My word! How hard must it be to leave all that amazing and expensive work! Curious about the price -- I'm going to guess $750,000 to 1 million.
$450,000
Hi Neighbor! New neighbors I guess. Love what he has done with this property. Thanks for sharing.
Like always they don’t mention the asking price. If I happen to miss it, let me know.
There asking 450,000
Failure to make the asking price easy to find says they think it's overpriced.
$450,000
450k
Doesnt seem to be a shortage of water. How come its so barren? Ground cover is very sparse.
High desert that is how it looks there personally rather buy near Show Low, or Alpine where it's forested wild fires always a risk.
It is great but theirs no price listed, thanks anyway we will keep looking with our realtor for what we are qualified for..good video anyway
My home town is Snoiwflake
Please don't buy or build anything until you have a working well with water rights in this area. There are so many people who buy these 40 acre ranches and have to pay to have water delivered. The reality of the situation only dawns on them when they try to dig a well and still get nothing after 1000 feet of drilling. Don't get carried away with romantic notions about 'living off the grid' until you find some water source.
Beautiful place. Kinda sad, he kept saying “we” 😢. I hope after living this lifestyle he can find a rural place closer to family.
Agree. He's making the right decision
I live in an off grid homestead just north of Fairbanks Alaska on 9 acres that i want to sell and move to the high desert in northern Arizona. I need to be in a more temperate environment.
@7:25-33 secs. it looked like the cat was walking on the side of the house.
so funny, it sure does hahaha must prefer cement over rocks haha, thank you for the chuckle, good eye 🐈❤
I want to sell my 80 off grid homestead in northern Michigan. Could sell allmost all stuff with the farm animals, tools, equipment, etc etc
Bring me out and we can feature it in the channel.
How much dose it cost to bring you out.i am not rich. Off grid farmer.
Depends on travel and stay. Use my website contact form and include your address if you want an estimate. Redtoolhouse.com
Cool tour. That has to be the oddest real estate listing I've seen. No price or other key details. Good thing you did a video for him. Az is certainly a varied state, if you can deal with the direction it's headed it's an interesting place to live.
There is a link in the video description. Others have commented that the asking price is $450K.
@@debbiedogs1 the link in the description had no price a month ago. Glad they got it updated.
I lived in Az for a few years and I never did figure out how to take advantage of the land. Does Paul have a youtube channel?
Wow! I think u definitely thought of everything. Beautiful!
I literally was looking at land out that way along with Seligman, White River, White Hills and other places as well just yesterday. Only about 4,000 people in the surrounding Taylor/Snowflake area yet there's five Mormon churches all capable of holding a few hundred each. I live in an area with almost 300,000 people and only have four Mormon churches with far more Mormons than out there in Taylor Az.
Looks like a nice setup. Pretty good he can recall all his trees and he's capable of living off the land. But family needs to come first. Why I'm still in Crapifornia, Commifornia and whatever other name we've taken in over the years.
Sadly many parts of Arizona are littered with junky RVs who no doubtedly were making their way to California and didn't make it.
I'm a man of the land that was never on the land.
Stuck here in Cali as well should of been gone years ago .
Famiky keeps me here my daughter and my mother we getting older ....
I agree. I love Arizona. I'm in Yuma Arizona. So much history here. I moved here from Indiana. Northern Indiana. Don't miss it. 😊😊
The website domain is down, must have sold.
It did
This takes me back to an Easter morning I spent visiting my Aunt and Uncle's ranch in the Oregon High Desert. I loved the dryness, the dirt, and how the air was in the cool morning. Horses did well there.
This is an amazing and so well planned self contained place! I had a great place similar to this but life happens and you have to sell your dream to someone else. That said after I sold my property the couple that bought it dozed off all the plants, fence and trees sold the really nice two bedroom house and put in a bigger home in their place. No yard, no large trees 10 to be exact, no house no barn and no fence all dozed or sold. Hope who ever buys this lovely property respects it and takes care of it.
Can’t imagine the grazing is that good with so little water for the grass.
I hear so many people say I don't want to live in the desert when you're up in the higher country it's very nice up there there's more water snow and milder temperatures it's not like living in the desert down by Phoenix where I live it's beautiful and I would love to live up in the High Country in Arizona
What a great homestead he created! I’m sad for him to have to let it go, but he has a good attitude about life having different seasons for our dreams. He will enjoy being nearer to family as they grow and will eventually find another dream to build. He is leaving a great place for the next owners and I hope he gets a great price for all his hard work!
Thanks for sharing. I have been to AZ a few times - Tucson, Phoenix, and Sedona - but never explored the higher desert areas. This gives me a reason to see more of it, though I would never live there myself.
Sure wish I knew the asking price before it sold.
Red Tool House West?
Pinyons are amazing! Why he would say, not so great?!?
How much did it sell for? Just curious as to what kind of money you can get for a place like that.
That was a nice change Well done!
Phenomenal, how many millions are they asking?
$450,000
And it evidently sold.
everybody trying to farm garden livestock etc im just trying to build my own bmx track and park lol
My kind of living stress free life ❤
Holy crap my guy - you built an unbelievable place.
Now buy it so he can escape his nightmare he's trying to escape
😂the magic wardrobe change in the middle
I dont think you could get those amazing delivery's to there like you get in WVA
REALLY NICE SET UP
How is the water? What is the deep? Are you on well or rain wood. Good luck and stay safe.
Beautiful place. God bless and good luck, my friend.
If getting water become an issue at any point in time, that homestead is worth nothing .
Water????
Have a cabin in north Az. with trees on 1 acre, water is trucked in. Water is key !
I love this!
I wished our place would be like this. A lot of work to get it to this point. Good luck hope you find a buyer who will continue your work. Yup, there comes a time in our lives where we will need to move on. Beautiful place.
Sure is something people want to buy land don't realize how much it cost to develop it to that point. I admire anyone who can make a good living up there to be able to do that. He bought when land was 1/4 what it is now said 8 years ago 2016 you could buy 30 acres 10 miles from Show Low for 25-30k. Even with a home on it could buy for less then 100k good old days are long gone.
Great interview.
HOW MUCH???? I HATE WHEN DETAILS ARE NOT DONE $$$$$$$???????
Happy he has decided not to sell after all the Work he put in !
I think it sold he bought 8 years ago when land up there in the Concho area was cheap 400-500 an acre he probalby got 450k for it he sold too soon prices are shooting up by the month now.
Nice setup!
