people saying “she’s canadian, what do you expect?” don’t realise how hard it is to learn a new language when you’re completely alone in a new environment. if you studied in korea for 6 years would you consider yourself korean? i have friends who studied in another country for 4 years of university and they still have not mastered the country’s language. all in all, learning a new language is not easy, let alone speak fluently. wendy can speak english, korean, spanish and french fluently and nobody should discount her talent/smartness just because she stayed in canada/usa for 6 years.

She had to give up her canadiann residency because after she came at 17 years old she never flew back because of the trainee life and debut. Some of y'all forget or just don't know Wendy's actually not Canadian. Her family's Korean and she was also born and raised in South Korea. She moved to Canada (+ later on USA) with her sister after finishing fifth grade in SK to study abroad. Therefore, English isn't her native language and she had to learn it later in her life (she was still young at that point but you get me). It's kinda sad that people just brush her talent off by saying "She's Canadian anyway, what's so impressive about her fluency and grades?" She had to adapt to a new language, learn to speak it fluently and then she also managed to get such good grades, I think people really don't give her enough credit for that. EDIT: I worded my sentences in a way that people learn about the truth and therefore give her a bit more credit for her English. The last sentence is just there to emphasize her (English) journey and yes, also praise her for "going through with it" as a child in a foreign country. I myself know that it takes a bit of time to adapt to completely new surroundings so I added that last bit. Nothing more, nothing less. It's not really worth something "getting awards" for (as I myself am trilingual with a similar "new country, new life" story), just something worth mentioning. :)

Since I'm trilingual myself it doesn't seem like a big deal to me if someone knows/speaks/etc. more than one language cause everyone around me is also at least bilingual. The only thing I did is stating the truth and yes, I did praise her for her English skills, but that's just because - as I said - people discredit her a lot simply because they think she's Korean AND Canadian. Idk why you reacted the way you did.

i also think a lot of credit has to be given for wendy maintaining her english skill pretty well, considering that since she joined sm + came back to korea it's not like she gets anywhere near the same amount of time to practice. even if you're fully fluent in a language you can very easily lose many of your skills in just a couple of years if you don't frequently use that language.

Wendy's tone is a very neutral pronunciation. It is common in the middle of the United States, mostly in Indiana. When other Americas here it, we have a hard time guessing where they are from. It's kind of fun!
