      Ken's Custom Iron Great work Ken. I do have a question though..... why do you choose to drill the holes for the rivets rather than a hot punch? I find a hot punch much quicker easier and accurate. Just my preference I suppose, I have been doing them a long time, I suppose it's easy for me to say it's an easier process, but as a blacksmith yourself it just surprised me that you chose to drill.
      No disrespect intended, whatever way works for you my dad always taught me. As long as it gets the job done. Nice job Ken.

      @@shonaoneill5151 While hot punching a hole might be simple for an experienced blacksmith such as yourself, for a new blacksmith (like me) that's just starting hot punching is a bit intimidating. The idea of using a drill press makes the whole tong process much less scary, and easy. I think Ken took the right approach with drill press for holes. Ken H>

    So cool! I bought a set of your rapid tongs a few years ago and they sat and gathered dust due to not having any place to forge. I lived in an apartment. They tend to frown upon glowing orange steel and making loud banging noises.
    But now I own a house and have a blacksmith shop! And forging these is going to be my next project! Thank you VERY much for such perfect instructional videos!!

    Thanks you so much. Just received your Viking Knife Bundle for Father's Day. Can't wait to fire up the forge and see how the tongs and knife turn out. I've made some stuff and actually sold some stuff, but I'm very much a beginner blacksmith.

    I will be using 1/4"X2" stock for my knives. How, exactly does one fit these tongs for such large stock?
    BTW, I love your quick and rapid tongs! I bought a bundle and am forging them, today to get what I need but, I do need to know how to fit these knife blank tongs for the larger stock. Is there anything different that needs to be done in the forging process for the larger stock?
    Thanks, in advance for your reply and thank you for such great videos!

    • @KjZiturKensCustomIron
      @KjZiturKensCustomIron  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you, Kim! We think you'd be better off with a little bit bigger pair of tongs for 1/4" x 2" material, but you could probably get these to work if you give it a try. We'd just finish them as you would for smaller material and see if they give you a strong enough grip on your material. Sorry again for the delay and let us know if you have any other questions. You're always welcome to email us at mail@kensiron.com.

    • @KjZiturKensCustomIron
      @KjZiturKensCustomIron  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They're really not that much work and they're a great way to improve your blacksmithing skills, plus you'll end up with a nice pair of tongs after you're finished! Hundreds of beginners have found them to be a useful project and tool.

    • @rhynorton6606
      @rhynorton6606 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As a novice blacksmith, I can say that the work in making these is invaluable, guided practice. Also, these blanks are far cheaper than a completed set and even a complete amateur like me can end up with a working set of tongs.
