Thank you for the video! I do have a very strange problem with the blob brush and was curious if you have encountered this? I recently did a drawing using the pencil tool but decided I wanted to “trace” over the pencil layer using the blob brush to compare styles. So I lowered the opacity of the pencil layer and then locked it. I then created a new layer above that one, and when I tried to use the blob brush, I noticed it’s colour opacity had also been reduced and I couldn’t seem to change that; it seemed to be directly linked to the previous pencil layer, even though I was on a new layer. The only way the blob brush went back to full colour opacity was when I went back into the pencil layer and increased the layer opacity back to 100% (if that makes sense! 😊) The other drawing tools don’t seem to be affected by this. Anyway, I hope my explanation is clear, it’s a tough one to google haha. I would be so grateful for any insight! Thanks again!!
Thank you for watching, and for taking the time to comment @vmac171! For whatever reason, it remembers the last opacity set, even when you start on a separate layer. 😩 However, when you start drawing with the blob brush, it would be added automatically to it's own path layer so you can adjust the opacity once you start drawing. I tried out adding an entirely new layer and it still sets the opacity to whatever was last selected but it can be adjusted easily. I hope that helps!

You are very welcome! Thank you for watching! I’m sorry but I don’t personally use that format so I don’t know the answer to that. However, it looks like there is info up on Adobe if you Google that specifically. I didn’t read through it entirely but there are lengthy instructions.
Hi Matt! If you check out my other video about importing files in and then using Clipping Masks, it will show you exactly how I did that :) I have attached it below. The video centers on .ai files specifically but you can import any file and clip it in the same manner. In the case of the background in this one, I created a rectangle with a fill and then added the texture directly to that ( I also changed the blend mode to get it to blend in a bit more) If you have any additional questions after watching, please don't hesitate to ask! Thanks for watching! Here is the video I mention above: th-cam.com/video/XcxUN78DZLE/w-d-xo.html
Is there a way to set the opacity on a brush before you draw? The problem I am having is when I draw with the brush and then change the opacity say to 20% , the next brush stroke that I draw does not retain the opacity but reverts back to 100% .
Hi there! Unfortunately, I have never found a way to set the opacity up front on the Blob Brush, and I find the same thing as you do, about it reverting back. Sorry!
Hello! Thank you for a great tutorial. I am excited to be better able to group paths as I draw with the blob brush to create objects. I have been work on my illustrator drawings and love using the blob brush on iPad. Sometimes when I am designing, I will change the brush size for the next path I want to do and the brush size will change all my previous paths. How can I make it so when I am creating a new path with new specifications it won’t affect previous work?
Hello Leeanne! So happy you enjoyed the tutorial, thank you! That's very strange. The Blob Brush shouldn't be doing that at all. The size is independent and you should be able to change the size of the brush with each stroke. Now the regular brush will change size if you have the last stroke selected when you go to change the size for the next stroke. But that shouldn't be happening at all with the Blob Brush, even if you do have something selected. Are you using the brush size slider to change the size of the brush (at the bottom corner) or are you going in to the Appearance panel and doing it?
Thank you Malla, and thank you for watching! I'm assuming you mean the kind of umbrella that has several almost triangular pieces making up the umbrella, all a different color? I would use the Pen, Pencil or Blob brush to create my seven individual shapes to make up the umbrella, then go back and change the colors to whatever I would like them to be. You could also use the Symmetry tool to make it more quickly.
@@Tracey-CreatorCollage Hi and thank you for the answer😃. Yes, umbrella with almost triangular pieces. But I don't know how to get every peace exactly the same size and to put together all the triangular pieces without getting messy at the top of the umbrella.Hmm.. It's hard to explain it. I have been searching on tutorials how to draw an umbrella on ipad illustrator, but I can't find. If you have any tips if someone has a video tutorial I would be happy to know. Your tutorial was so nice and I learn do much from it 🤩💪🏻. I will keep watching your tutorials 😃
I'm sorry you're finding it frustrating! For the brush expansion issue, have you tried going in to the Settings for the brush and unchecking Pressure Dynamics? You can also adjust the roundness and angle in that same spot and that may help too. If it's at all tapered or angled, it may give the impression of expanding. If you're looking for a monoline type brush, you can just turn all those settings off or down. For the issue where the brush is moving on it's own, that's a strange one! Perhaps try to lower the Smoothness settings down in the Settings area? I'm not sure if that's what is causing the issue as I haven't had it move on it's own before! But it's worth a shot! I hope this helps! Thank you for checking out the video!
Not yet, no. They have just added the ability to make art and calligraphic brushes within the app but importing hasn’t been added yet. Apparently it is something that will be added though.
@@Tracey-CreatorCollage hmmmm well, that makes the program almost useless. A bit of a soapbox but Adobe has really dropped the ball with Illustrator and Photoshop for the iPad With Photoshop you cannot copy and paste text from an external source. So if you’re working a webpage or print ad you cannot copy text from a word doc to IPad photoshop. Which, makes photoshop useless for commercial design uses. And now with IPad illustrator I cannot import any snow fall brushes for some web ads I’m working on. Kind of bummed. I was hoping I would be able to do client work from my iPad. Guess I’ll be sticking with ProCreate
@ThePjp100 I completely understand and I'm sorry to hear that it isn't where you need it to be yet. Personally, I don't use Photoshop for iPad because it doesn't meet my needs and I agree it wasn't up to standard. I have found that Adobe is beginning to make Illustrator more robust; hopefully the ability to import brushes will come sooner rather than later.
That's very strange! I'm assuming you're working on the most up to date version of Illustrator for iPad? If so, check to make sure that the Blob Brush is selected (and something else didn't accidentally get tapped, especially since there are now three different types of brushes under the same icon in the latest update) so that the correct Brush Settings menu comes up. Other than that, I honestly imagine why you wouldn't have the option. You may want to check the Adobe forums to see if anyone else has reported that issue. I hope something above helps or you can at least get assistance through Adobe! Thank you for watching the tutorial!
