  • No More Fashion Trends in 2021 and Beyond
In today’s video we’re talking about fashion trends in 2021 and beyond. I’ve decided to take a step back and reflect on my fashion choices and how I want to approach it moving forward. Fashion trends can be fun, but they can also be consuming of your time and energy. I hope this video inspires you to reflect on how you approach trends in fashion or any other area of your life.

I was just chatting with my friend about this. I find it so funny that currently a major topic of conversation is how some women should stop wearing jeans, shouldn’t have a side part etc. Mind you, I’m 41 so I’m “old” in comparison to everyone involved in this conversation BUT I learned long ago that I’m not in a competition with anybody. I do not yearn or aspire to look like everyone else. I just want to feel good and make smart choices about everything in my life, including fashion 🙂
I enjoy watching you. Love your perspective.

Happily I can sew. Recently I threw out all my old sewing patterns and bought 9 new patterns which cover all the shapes I have learned suit me with also having interesting details. Now with these basic designs I am choosing fabrics to build a versatile minimalist capsule wardrobe. There are three designers in this process - the pattern designer, the textile designer and myself as I choose what to I sew with what materials. Freedom!

I like to be aware of trends, get creative and look at my wardrobe with a fresh eye. I can sometimes recreate a trend, but in my own unique way, using what I already have. It makes fashion fun! I don’t feel stressed about it. I usually only like a handful of trends per season anyway. Many of them don’t suit me or my style.

We are so bombarded by trends it's becoming silly. It's entertaining and at times I do try something new to me that looks attractive and that I might end up including in my personal style, for example, I've been a fan of skinny jeans but lately I've seen the more relaxed fit and decided to try it out. So far, I'm loving it 👍👍. I'm not letting my skinny jeans go because these aren't trendy anymore, that's when it becomes silly in my opinion. I can be open to try different things and keeping them with me forever as long as I love it, simple.
BTW, you look very pretty, loving your hair 😍💗

As I decluttered my closet I knew exactly what I had in there and that really stopped me from shopping because I knew I had clothes to wear that I liked already 😊 Also shopping is a timekiller so I replaced it with reading or watching my favorite show instead 😊

In all honesty here, I agree with what you're saying 100%! One thing I'm learning about myself in terms of fashion is that I don't want my style to be predictable or boring. Comfort has really become a priority for me, and back before I knew what slow fashion was, I was always shopping the sales racks at the mall for things that were very trendy or just "cute", but didn't fit in with a color scheme that suits me or complemented my skin tone. These days, I just want to continue working on being creative with my style and staying true to who I am. :)

Wow, this is the best video about trends for 2021 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I really admire your purpose for this year. We become obsessed about wearing what’s trending without realizing what’s our true self when it becomes to show our unique style.

Great idea. Most of us have nice clothes that we aren’t even using. When my “most worn” items disappear in the hamper /tailoring /steaming /de-pilling piles, it can make getting dressed more challenging. - Because these items are often foundations of my favorite outfits. 🧥🥼👖 This issue has also influenced my shopping habits.

I like this idea that we dress for ourselves and I think platforms like Pinterest should be used for inspiration.. i find that this strange year has taught us that maybe we have more than enough and more than we can use! In my opinion it's a good idea to focus on using what we have, wear what we feel comfortable in and feeling good with ourselves! That said, i always love your fashion videos not because they're trend driven but because you use your pieces in creative ways, so i'll be happy to keep watching them (if you still feel like making them) even if you don't add any new or "in fashion" pieces!

I think I read somewhere that trends are slowing down with the influence of the pandemic. There used to be 52+ of them, with a goal of new trends at least once per week in fast fashion. Kind of a nice though that there is some slowing down.

Well said! Very thankful more and more people are taking this approach. I've struggled to find comfort with clothes as my body has changed. The rapid fire changing trends compounds this challenge as I've discovered that I can't always find the fit I want that helps me feel comfortable and confident. Luckily I've learned how to invest in tailoring thrifted items which has become quite a joy. Thanks for sharing.

I've always been considered odd for not being consumed by wanting to buy lots of clothes from close family and friends, and later flat mates getting into debt to buy new stuff every week or for nights out. I started to buy more and watching TH-cam videos on fashion I really enjoyed yours on clear outs etc and I caught the bug for about a year and a brilliant part of lockdown stopped it all and my favourite shops have closed down. I feel much better, however I feel terrible for everyone who lost their jobs.

The constant fast turnover trends, styles and colors, is of course on purpose; just for the reason you listed, to try and keep up. I am one of your older followers, so when I was in my late teens/early twenties, it was a different time; and this wasn't much of an issue. I admire you for letting that expense and stress go. It has taken me time, to come up with a color pallet I love and do really well sticking to not overcrowding my closet. I do have a bit more color in the summer months, but still try and keep mix and match pieces.

I'm just watching less trend videos and instead watching classic outfit videos with basic items and inspiring videos like these. It's helping me!
Also there's no such thing as last year trend cuz they usually last 2-3 years on the street. Things do go out of style but then they come back! So unless you use certain items that are really old(like full flared jeans from the 70s?), I think it's okay!

Yes, minimizing shopping habits. Started a week ago with a no buy for three months. What you say about trends is true. Truth is, we need clothes and accessories so much less than we think we do. :/ if we actually finished what we have, how often would we really buy?

I think a lot of it is limiting who you follow on socials etc, but also you might have to limit certain relationships. Depending on your age, a lot of women are sadly still battling a bit of a “mean girl” culture where you are made to feel un-cool or lesser unfortunately. Learning your “why” (in your case freedom) really helps with discerning whose opinions matter to you

I was never to wear trends in High School. I also sewed and was drawn to timeless pieces. Over the years I have always loved things that look good but are not the new it thing. I was a substitute teacher out of college. The first year (this was the 1980's) all the high school girls were wearing corduroy knickers (I called the Thomas Jefferson pants....they were pretty wierd). Well year two I subed the first day of the school year. The kids were coming into the classroom and one girl was wearing those knickers and a group of girls were making fun of her in front of the whole class. That girl looked so miserable! That is how trends go, when they go out they are so unique that they don't fit in.
