To be honest, I don't think either of them are dead. At least in the animated Universe. Even Gundam Unicorn considered Char MIA, not KIA. In this very film even the show one last mobile suit left Axis shortly after Bright asks where Amuro is. I still think Full Frontal is all that remains of Char. Instead of Char say dying in this film, his brain was scrambled and ripped in two, with his humanity sucked away and only his cold calculative ambitions remaining. Meanwhile Amuro is likely sitting on a beach somewhere staying out of the affairs of the world similar Sayla perhaps.
If you watch the entire original scene, the final moment is fking hilarious, and arguably what ruins CCA. And the fking sequence makes it look like the discovery of how pathetic Char is is what actually triggers Axis shock.

I love how the greatest heroes/villains of the universal century died in their early 30s after a decade of living through the most traumatic shit realizing how they probably should've gone to therapy way back when. It's as comedic as it is tragic as hell
Char's entire insane plot of destroying earth essentially boils down to mommy issues. And a lot of Amuro's mental issues can be linked to his father's treatment of him so... daddy issues.
I think Beltorchika’s Children had a better final quote for him where he admitted it might be for the best that he loses, in large part due to Sayla living on Earth. Seeing as CCA:BC is much closer to Tomino’s vision I choose to see it as the canon end. Also Nightingale and Hi-Nu are just the cooler CCA suits

Its like real life, where we have these great historical figures who are seen as legends and accomplished great things in life, but the real life versions were usually fucked up, full of trauma, had great insecurities or even had weird skeletons in the closet. And its because at the end of the day they were human too.
Now I'm not going to judge someone's fetish, and in a way it kind of makes sense that an orphan like Char may find someone attractive for their maternal traits. At the same time, the way he phrases it...what?

Char is warped, the two people who's fundamental duty in life is to love unconditionally died while he was a little kid, along with this he is a newtpye. as a young man he finds Lalah, saves her, and eventually falls in love with her, because he never truly learned what it actually is to love a person, in his final moments, man who for his entire life lived behind a mask, in a fit of what i interpret as anger fueled passion finalyl says what he truly thinks. i could elaborate further but i feel like id write a 12 page essay about it. i honestly just find it much easier to understand as someone who also never had the love of a mother and/or father and retreated into 100+ year old philosophers to teach me how to live
My assumption is he means that Lalah Sune could have become the mother of his children, Whether because she was pregnant or because he 'planned on pursuing a romantic relationship with her later on. I assume Amuro Ray's reaction is shock and/or regret, That she was pregnant, Or just thinking on her possible future, that he ended by killing her. But I don't know if my assumption is 'correct.
I think it's more that Char saw a Lalah as a comforting, mother-like figure that could give him the kind of unconditional love that he yearned for and lacked growing up. It's understandable, but still incredibly pathetic for a character in his position.
