In Vietnam in 1970, Captain Willard (Sheen) takes a perilous and increasingly hallucinatory journey upriver to find and terminate Colonel Kurtz (Brando), a once-promising officer who has reportedly gone completely mad. In the company of a Navy patrol boat filled with street-smart kids, a surfing-obsessed Air Cavalry officer Bill (Duvall), and a crazed freelance photographer (Hopper), Willard travels further and further into the heart of darkness.

Yeah, he took a job as an Army puke which is surprising..haha. I was in the Air Cav myself, (this movie made me join it). Was happy to see Eremy in there.

In the camp, Willard is bound and brought before Kurtz in a darkened temple. Kurtz kills Chef, preventing the airstrike. Willard is released and Kurtz lectures him on his theories of war, praising the ruthlessness of the Viet Cong. Kurtz discusses his family and asks that Willard tell his son about him after his death.
That night, as the Montagnards ceremonially slaughter a water buffalo, Willard attacks Kurtz with a machete. Mortally wounded, Kurtz utters "... The horror ... the horror ..." and dies. All in the compound see Willard departing, carrying a collection of Kurtz's writings, and bow down to him. Willard and Lance sail away.
This movie is awesome and dark. The story is gold and the actors are just awesome at their job.
This was actually based on Conrad's Heart of Darkness, and the book is even more brutal than the film.

What do I need to say about the ending at this point? It’s an absolute masterpiece just like the rest of this movie
there were also like 3 kills in the do lung bridge scene as they were leaving so this counts off.

The dead bodies near the end were actual dead corpses , dude responsible got arrested.
I heard about All that. Lots of theories and arrest was made but they didn’t end up using any of the medical autopsy bodies in any scenes. The guy supplying them turned out to be a grave robber
All of the bodies in that scene were playes by actors
So my teacher showed my class this movie when I was 13 and had nightmares for weeks.....I finally had the courage to look it up(15 years late) and try to show myself it just seemed worse because I was young... No it is genuinely horrific regadless of age... But an amazing movie all the same.

Uh, We didn't kill our own people. But you wouldn't know that because you probably haven't seen it. Yet.
Erm that statistic is horribly wrong. Like horrendously wrong 100K dead vc would mean 900k dead civilians.

film is insanely ahead of its time as a kid i hated this movie with my grandma cuz i thought it was boring but rewatching as an adult i really appreciate it now wow we need more horror war films it takes balls to do but if you do it right it works so good
I usually don't like watching war films especially propaganda and not-based on true events ones. But Apocalypse Now, Fury, and Platoon will always be worth my time.

I've seen all nut the First Assembly. You can tell which cut I counted by the runtime on the scoreboard. :)

The First Assembly had far more messed up deaths that never got a chance to be released yet with a runtime of over 4-5 hrs.
Saw it in LA i think in 2019. Long movie and alot of VERY gross stuff.

Just an incredible film and a bit of a miracle that it was ever made! Certainly wouldn't be now.
The grenade in the helicopter is just one of those moments that are so shocking to have in a film like this. You expect stupid, American patriotic melodrama but this is just a bit of the miserable, surreal, pathetic truth of Vietnam.
This is the redux version of the movie. And with the carnage count you make Nam sound like a Nintendo video game.

you got the date wrong, this is a 2001 movie- you can tell especially by the picture quality, but outside of that, the ad for the movie that popped up above the recommended vids shows it came out in 2001 XP
