Cheers mate! Been so long since I cleaned a carb. Missus dad passed a while ago and he had an old Sovereign lawnmower. Spent ages getting it started with the step kids watching on. There were tears when it fired up!! Cheers dude!!

Properly useful videos which gave me a really good laugh. SV150 wouldn't start after running out of fuel, solved after giving carburettor a good clean. Also fixed long-running over revving problem while I was at it. I feel like a real man and have finally gained the approval of my wife and my dad - thank you, you have changed my life for the better.
What was the over revving - mines doing that - can’t see what’s going on - it’s on full revs and tge cable will move the linkages but the governor arm won’t push back to engage the tickover
Had ours since 2009 and only just changed the oil for the first time, it's never skipped a beat.
Great video thank you. I got my champion mower going after a clean out when I thought I was going to have to bite the bullet and get another. I've had it 6 years and it has been brilliant after buying second hand off gum tree for £30. It looked well used when I got it, but before now all I have had to do is replace the starter pull cord. I did notice there was no gasket behind the carb though, so just ordered one - that explains why there is always fuel on the shell.

Great video's thanks but I have come to a dead end with my XSZ40 mower with the same SV150 engine set up as shown in this video. I've cleaned the carb and changed the spark plug as shown in your other videos. I have also checked that all the springs and links match as shown in this video. The only thing missing is the tiny piece of foam under the small triangular metal "connector" which has the tiny spring. That said, the spring works fine and the parts move smoothly (as per 27:25 and 30:55) so have left it as it is, for now. The issue I have is despite the engine starting okay on the choke lever position as soon as I move it from choke the engine dies. The choke opens and closes okay (as described 40:20). I do however notice that moving the speed knob anywhere between the 'fast' and 'slow' setting does not appear to make any difference in the position of the links and values so am confused how the engine speed is determined if nothing appears to be moving? The governor mechanism appears to be working well, and is not being restricted by the throttle cable
In summary the engine only runs when the lever is on choke, and as soon as I move it forward off choke the engines splutters and dies... Any suggestions?!
Ours is revving high and even higher on the tortoise setting, any suggestions ? also the spring you talk about that can cause up and down revs when you detach the top spring, how do you replace that?

Great video my man. I have an sv150 on a mountfield hp454. I stripped the carb down and cleaned it all up nice, all linkages are back together as per your video. It took a few pulls to start on choke (obviously once the fuel got through). I adjusted the throttle to full speed and ran it for about 1 minute. It sounded much better. Afterwards it wouldn't start. After I had dinner I noticed there was fuel leaking out the exhaust gasket (I assume I flooded it). Once a mower is warm, what setting should the throttle be upon restart?

Can you help? Recent purchase of a mount field roller mower with 4 speeds for the self propelling, 123 all seem same slow speed 4 is quicker but not much, is there cable adjustment that affects this?

hi buddy. i was hoping you may help? i recently purchased a champion lawnmower from a house clearance auction for a service user but it didn't have a grass box. i have since purchased a grass box which looks like the one on yours. it hooks into place lovely but the back plastic flap remains to far in the air to the point it blows grass in my face when i'm cutting with it. my question is are they different types of grass box for these or could they be a blanking type panel missing off the top of my grass box ? the one i purchased has a briggs & straton 35 classic fitted but it has a champion sticker on the front of the deck. its a push mower . any help would be most appreciated bud ;o)

hi i have one of these Champion mowers and its blowing oil out of the filler cap any ideas what could be wrong
i use its own power to wash the uderside. You know the plastic bases of say a guineapig cage, i have one of them. Its width of mowers and long to fit 2 in as a size reference. i filll it with water and bit of washing up liquid.
chuck mower in the bath and tilt back a bit, fire it up and then slowly lower and liftand the blade splashes everywhere and really brings the underside shiny again :-)

I've had a used one for 10+ years now. You're right about the decks being good quality, mine still looks new. The engine is smoking and starting to overheat after around half an hour of usage now though. Do you have any ideas? I've serviced the mower but I'm not sure if the head gasket is getting ready to be replaced? I don't want to strip it that far if it's not. Thank you and thank you for the videos, great content!
Make sure the cooling fins are clear. especially behind the carb

I have a Champion SV 150 THAT RACES every time i start it, i have had the carb off twice to clean and checked all the springs with your video, i am at a loss with what to do next. Can you advise. I also have an Atco Quantum 35 engine that will not take fuel from the carburetor. If i put some fuel direct in the piston it starts. Had the carb off three times, but cant find a problem.
Does it race then settle down? Try an ultrasonic cleaner for the carb and make sure no hole in promer bulb if it has one
@@MowerMan it speeds up as you leave it ticking over, the throttle leaver moves on its own but i will take the carb off again and do as you say. Thanks

I'm having trouble getting mine to stop. I replaced the brake and micro switch but still not stopping and getting smoke from around flywheel when I do stop it as it getting so hot
I'd swap the coil or at least the kill switch wire to it
@@MowerMan what's the kill switch , the micro switch? Have tested all that with a multimeter.

The tiny spring under the triangular plate attached to the throttle disc is either broken or missing on that Champion .As you say the plate should have some sprung return when the governor spring is removed. I wondered if the tiny wire spring below the triangular plate was to control minor oscillations of the throttle plate .
Can you tell me which is the correct governor spring for that particular Champion SV150 . The spring I have been supplied with off ebay is extremely fine and longer and weaker that the one you have on that carb.
