      if you happen to still have the car
      another good upgrade for the brakes is braided brake hoses for about 200 bucks and change the fluid to DOT 5.1……. Of course Bendix pads and discs and it’s a unbelievable combined improvement under the pedal.

    • @SteveMack
      @SteveMack  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd check to ensure that no vacuum hose became dislodged when doing this. Failing that; I'd suspect a tear in the internal rubber diaphram. Complete new boosters SHOULDN'T be excessively expensive, and are a common solution.

    • @SteveMack
      @SteveMack  ปีที่แล้ว

      Originally, the rubber diaphrams act a little like a spring in most cars, but rubber looses some flexability with age, cracking etc. This is a great fix, short of buying a whole new setup (which of course IS an option), but mine' still running perfectly with this tiny tweak once only, and brakes don't drag anymore (which cost me new discs and 2 rounds of machining before I realised)😟

    • @SteveMack
      @SteveMack  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm, I'd tend to doubt it; sounds MUCH more likely to be a sticking calliper on that side...try removing it, and cleaning up the slider pins, then lightly sand them, and coat with rubber grease, and reassemble (I mention this in 1 of my other videos on brake pad replacement); THAT SHOULD solve your problem! Oh ok - Yeah, I said what others had sugested, but obviously went more turns, as it's a fine pitched screw, and a mere one turn would have barely made any difference. What I did, I WOULDN'T EXCEED though, and was prepeared, had it been too much, to pull it apart and unscrew 1 turn. I CAN tell you though, that it WAS very worthwhile, as it indeed stopped the dragging brakes, and now a few years on - they STILL don't bind! (& believe me - I still often check by seeing if the car will roll on an incine in neutral) - It does. 🙂👌👍* I _would_ squirt a small amount of WD-40 / RP7 onto the screw first though, and let it soak for a few minutes, as it was as shown; quite rusty from condensation over the years.

  • @davidcombridge9946
    @davidcombridge9946 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    OMG! Do not adjust that screw, there is a fault with the master cylinder. There is a 3mm retaining screw inside the master cylinder that slowly comes undone and allows the plunger to come back further than it should which presses on the the push rod from the booster. So yes adjusting that rod will band-aid the issue but not fix it.

    • @SteveMack
      @SteveMack  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Noted: but 12 months on, it's still fine. I did say only about 1 turn I think?

      No Every Ford Forum i've come across has said to do Exactly this to fix the issue.

    • @SteveMack
      @SteveMack  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So long as you limit it to only about 1 turn (or less - use trial and error) it SEEMS safe to me (and clearly others). AS David says & implies; Obviously THE BEST solution would be to replace the master cylinder with a new one - But I found the screw to be so stiff (likely a bit of rust, as seen in my video), that hopefully - the screw won't easilly work itself too loose. MINE hasn't in over 12 months is all I can go by👌👍

      I've backed every one of my falcons off a quater turn to solve this issue since 2005.
      I learnt that trick from a mechanic, who was told by a former dealership tech that when the last service before warranty ran out, they were instructed to turn in the rod so customers would be back for new pads and rotors.
      I tried everything on my 1st Bseries falcon from forums for 9 sets of discs until I asked my mate and learned this technique and never ever had a problem since. I put 400,00 kilometres on my BF mkii with the rod adjusted an never an issue.

      Would this be the same for FG falcons too? I just replaced pads and rotors an sounds like brakes are slowly dragging and getting worse fuel economy.
