    Little do people know- that is actually a safety feature on the VE commodores when the Traction Control System is enabled. It stops damage happening to the gearbox as the car is temporarily rolling back while in drive (obviously being a police car it is an auto- autos can stall to!) Turn the TCS off and it won't stall.

  • @Mechknight73

    The memory of that "cod faced" thing that was briefly imported in the mid 90s that wore Taurus badges is still fresh in the minds of Australian motorists. It had a face only a mother could love. The modern Taurus is definitely an improvement, but the issue is not just that some are only front wheel drive, but the fact that most people will be pissed off if it replaces the Falcon. How would you feel if Ford USA suddenly replaced the Mustang with a Camry clone?

    • @Windwalker95
      @Windwalker95 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sugar Bombs I don't consider the 2018 commodore a commodore. Reasons people buy aussie cars:
      Large car,
      Optional V8,
      RWD,
      Made in Australia.
      Reliable
      The new commodore doesn't have any of them, except maybe reliability, but in that case, camrys exist.

    @kiwipilot84 Holden didnt release a pov pack with LPG as an option from the factory, where as the falcon apparently did.. Also in saying that falcons are better than commodores because there are more falcon cabs, does that mean that the prius and the hybrid camry is better than a falcon, 'cause thats what you see mainly in brisbane now. And which commodore is based on an opel?

  • @defiant18
    @defiant18 13 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    @paspax In June 2010, new emissions regualtions introduced meant that the iconic V8 engine had to be discontinued. Ford phased this out quietly; motoring journals and magazines did not even report on it. As of now, Ford offers no V8 on any of its model lines. However, at the time the V8 was phased out, Ford's performance subsidiary, FPV, introduced a Ford America sourced V8, the 5.0 litre coyote (as used in the Mustang)....From Wiki.

Oh and the ve walkinshaw already beats both of the gt 335 and f6. Although it's a performance package it's still part of holden/hsv.

  • @kinga303

    their idea was to go for the baseline. but if they were to go the 6 cyl performance class it would be SV6 vs XR6T and the turbo mill would outclass the 3.6 sidi in all aspects. in my oppinion though the SV6 would be a close match to the base falcon, maybe a slight advantage as the improved power will help close the gap created by the i6 torque characteristics

      AU had the best durability rating in terms of the rear suspension. It was the perfect outer burbs country car in that respect still going strong with many owners. But ugly duckling sure it was!
      The BF Ghias stood out to me the most, being the incredibly elegant single owner or family outing car.

  • @janeisababe
    @janeisababe 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @richardpalinkas Guess again. The "other" engine at the time only had 10Nm more torque than the Omega. It was still 51Nm down on the Ford. It came with a 5speed which helped, but it wasn't as balsy. It did handle better than the Omega, but the XR6 also handled better than the XT.
    There is a reason that engine has been dumped after only 5 years.

    Why can't we have the Ford Falcon and Chevrolet Caprice (US Holden Commodore re-badge) for sale in the US? Now that the Crown Victoria is gone, there are no more rear wheel drive Ford sedans in North America. I'm sure that a slightly restyled Lincoln version of the Falcon would compete well with the Cadillac CTS, and other German and Japanese mid-size luxury sports sedans. GM would benefit from a new RWD Chevrolet Caprice too since the near identical Pontiac G8 disappeared in 2009.

    I like the bigger car but they're pricing themselves out of existence. A 4 cylinder from Japan or Korea is in the teens, around $15k or so. Trouble is, Ford USA have no imagination. They can't allow anything Australian made to compete on the US market. Holden were allowed to export their Caprice as a police cruiser because they wanted a rear drive competitor to the Interceptor and Taurus AWD. "Australia has become the place to find the American muscle sedan" and these cars "could save Ford now, if they were for sale in North America." If the Falcon been for sale in North America, it would likely replace the Crown Victoria in the full-size, rear wheel drive market." I agree. Buy a Holden or ford. I think both cars are great. The only reason people get so uptight about this is because they are the only 2 car manufacturers who still make decent sized powerful cars and are Australian.
    Go Holden & Ford!

    Really, I would blame GM for the poorer quality cars that are coming out badged as Holden's of late. What I think needs to be done is: Holden make their OWN cars (they can be made in factories around the world, but the bulk should be made in Australia), which, when exported, should be badged as Holden's, they should have their own car designs, make their own engines as well as importing some from American cars, and start importing some American cars to sell in Australia.

    Funny u say that cause my old man use to drive a taxi and he drove 2 fords but after doing 250,000km on each cause the engines had to be rebuilt he went to holden and got 3times that 750,000 so as for your statement on reliability i dotnt think so there crap always have been crap and always will be crap

    Since the 1960s, Americans have had it hammered into them that front wheel drive is superior. Australian cars are designed to handle the abuse of local conditions, and as many European cars went front wheel drive early, and broke down a lot, the locals distrusted it. Australians are often pulling large caravans (trailers) instead of driving mobile homes, and front wheel drive is often useless for that purpose

    Part 2..potentially ending the great Falcon!! Same goes for all other Ford vechiles outside the states. GMC can not dictate to GMH or Opel or anyone else
