Nice video! I was a hardcore Jurassic Park fan as a kid and I remember being very excited for this film because it was also based on a Michael Crichton novel. I still remember my dad taking my to see a late showing of it, followed by eating buffalo wings at a TGI Fridays.
Karen Ross is really heavily influenced by Kenner's Ellen Ripley figure from the Aliens line. Her laser gun seems like a rework of Ripley's flamethrower while Monroe's rifle is a modified rifle from the G.I. Joe 1991 Eco-Warriors Flint. I also really wonder if Hasbro took reused elements from the proposed but never fully created Predator Hunters and Aliens Power Brigade lines for the weapons in this line? The weapons seem like they could have fit into the Alien/ Predator line easily and we all know Kenner rarely let a concept they created go to waste.

I didn't get to see Congo in it's day, I actually just watched it to prep for this video... One of the rare instances someone game me stuff for my TH-cam that I wasn't collecting myself. I didn't think about the ALIEN toys being connected also. I've actually wanted to get some PREDATOR stuff linked to it, you never really know what I will get hooked on next to show here. Love the story and info, thanks for commenting here; I need more comments on videos in general!

Gotta love 90s Kenner action figures! Repurposed molds from multiple lines and using same accessories and vehicles from other lines as well. And hey they wouldn’t be real action figures unless they were all roided out! Haha!
I have some of these that I got as a kid and thought they were cool. Of course I also saw the movie and liked it as well. I actually utilized these as extra characters when I played with my Jurassic Park and Lost World figures. I still have all of them and my JP figures from my childhood and actually recently purchased the rest of the line so I have the complete set including the vehicles and Mail-away figure.

I love to show my collections here like this, what I had as a kid, and then finishing sets also. This was a lucky chance to get all these in one place to open and show. I wish I could get the vehicles but I can't just get things for videos right now, just my own collection stuff, ha ha ha. Must be great having all the vehicles with them. Stuff like this was great at blending in with other toys.

That's one occasion when we seen and like the toys more than the movie itself, LOL!

Yeah I had to watch it to do this video and I don't think it's one I'd watch again. It's like if Jurassic Park only had dinosaurs in the last 30 minutes of the movie...

That eyebrow articulation is insane!! Mattel should take notes.

It's very expressive! Ultimate Edition The Rock from the Attitude Era needs it a bit.

Been trying to collect this toyline for a while but keep missing out of eBay sales of them. I like the movie and have a huge sodt spot for any 80s/90s movie tie-in lines.
This was one of Kenner's lesser projects, I think they were just hedging their bets in case the movie became the next Jurassic Park. I know they pinched bits from lots of other movie toy lines. The main woman is Ripley from the Aliens toyline with a new head😂

It's enjoyable as a retro toy line, but I can see why at the time they were not all that wanted.

Haha...I remember I was in middle school when these came out...I recall them sitting on shelves as well..pretty cool to own a few pieces now...

They sat on the shelves for a while in stores, I can't forget the big gorilla face on the packs.

I’m pretty sure the Monroe figure was a Danny Glover mold from the predator line that never saw a release

The mustache situation makes that a plausible theory.

There is an unopened ape I owe a few prototypes of. I have them without the arms. I also have a few unproduced apes on my toy channel with gray paint job more like they looked in the movie.

folks must be rediscovering this movie (and subsequently, the toys) or something, because i used to trip all over these guys in every dollar bin at every collectibles store I ever went to. but in the last couple years...nothing. And the sealed ones have definitely seen a spike in price. Maybe folks just love all things Kenner...and monkeys!

Tough to say, but in general I find older movies more worth finding and watching now because you can see the effort and real effects even in less praised films of the past. And anything that got a toy line will get a boost in nostalgia views/ and vice-versa something with a movie or show will always make a small come back here and there with people making them want the old merchandise.
But it may just be people desperately wanting to make their old junk seem like it's worth something when it really isn't. Mass produced and I don't think these were popular or sought after at all back then. It was fun to see them all in hand finally though here.

@@MBXfilms Yeah, definitely not sought after at the time. peg warmers for sure. And yes, it is pretty great seeing them all together. They do have a charm to them, and the apes and the accessories are actually pretty cool.
This movie also benefitted from one of the greatest ad campaigns of all time. Just go back and watch the commercials; folks really thought this was a sequel or spin-off of the first Jurassic Park movie. Pretty genius.

You know what back in the mid 1990’s in 1995 Kenner Toy 🧸 Company should re used the M.A.S.K Boulder Hill playset into Congo The Lost City of Zinj volcano 🌋 playset other action figures sold separately from Kenner!

    • @MBXfilms
      @MBXfilms  ปีที่แล้ว

Yes their base or the diamond mine would have fit with turning the mountain into a volcano quite well. I guess a playset wasn't in the budget even reusing an old one.

      @@MBXfilms me too, I don't have many carded figures...but I collect mostly 80s and 90s figures...been getting into a lot of stuff I didn't own as a kid..appreciate your vids bro...💯💯💯💯🙌🙌🙌🙌

@@spunkhead Same for sure. Luckily I kept a lot of my childhood toys in fair condition, so some I just need to "finish" with a few missing figures. Something really fun about getting them all now, seeing them together complete.

Ha ha, well the videos aren't really about selling. But I actually did sell these a while back since I didn't really grow up with the movie. But I thought they were worth showing for the video for sure.

Amy the the gorilla is like the t rex and mangler and zinji are like the raptors from congo instead of jurassic park.
