    In the alternate method say you only wanted 5 buckets instead of 20. Easy, use a ball valve to control the flow to the buckets, then plumb the excess into the deep water tank. Done. I don't know why you didn't see that option.

    Totally stoked with all the generous info you are are providing us newby's with!!!!! I'm contemplating setting up a system with my son (bonding &healthy eating), and it seems you got it dialed in, as only a God would. My biggest worry now is not having the power go out as hurricane Irma blows through...so I can keep watching your series. Keep up the awesome work, I seat awaits you in Mt Olympus!!!!!!

    ok question.....in the gravity setup..... can you connect the dutch bucket and DWC in parrallel, add a ball valve to regulate the flow going to the dutch bucket then connect the outflow from the beds back into the sump on a gravity system? of course you need to calculate the flow rate into and out of the DWC to compensate, but this could be done? would this negate the issues of needing the heavy duty pump and make it cheaper to run? also wouldnt this still need a biofilter before it flowed into the dutch bucket and DWC?????

    I thank you very much for all the information in your video. As always, you have been quite clear in your explanations. Einstein is an old friend of mine, it's very good to see him again in aquaponics. I'll stay in touch. My next question will rocket you to the Olympus of the Aquaponics gods, and I might pick up a ride. Peace to you

    So Dutch buckets can operate at continuous flow?
    I thought they had some kind of drip irrigation that only operated a few times a day (3-4) & required a timer on the pump(s).

    Hi There, finished going through all your material. Cheers to that :D
    Keep It Up.
    I'm want to setup a hybrid system. just like your preferred design and to split the flow and run ball valves.
    I have a 1000ltr cylindrical FT to house tilllapia, which I want to harvest at 500gms to start with.
    using your stocking density I have calculated approx 60kg of fish so 120 fishes at harvest.
    I would like to know how to calculate:-
    1. The amount of feed that will be needed to grow the fish.
    2. And basis that that I would want to know the relative size of dwc or no. of buckets. ( Leafy in DWC and Vegetables in Dutch Buckets)
    3. What if I want to keep only 10 buckets(20ltr) and the rest is DWC )
    As both are different , so is their respective feed/MTR^2/day .
    I'm getting a little confused doing the math.
    Certainly not a problem for an AquaponicsGod Lvl :D
    ( Thanks in Advance.)

    On the alternate system, how about just bypass the dutch buckets with 85 gallons/h and let 5 gallons/h go to each of the three buckets? Or would that need a solids filter before the DWC?

    Hi there. Not to ask a biscuit-headed question, but I'm brand new to aquaponics. In the alternative gravity fed model, could you split the output of the fish tank and route the split directly to the dwc so that you could scale your Dutch bucket system whenever you want while maintaining the required flow rate? Thank you for these great videos. I'm learning a ton, and excited to get started.

    Alternate method : how about an over flow pipe at the end of your run of buckets. Just in case you didn't want or have room for 20 buckets?

      Smaller system means smaller fish tank = less dutch buckets = smaller DWC = smaller pump or better still, a pump running at half the rated output.

    I have a question on the sump tank. if part of the ecosystem of aquaponics is that the plants filtrates the water for the fish. having a split flow on sump tank, does it not affect the water filtration process that needs to happen before the water goes back to the fish tank?

    • @TheSchoolofAquaponics

      Hey Levi, we did a video on this subject because others have asked this question as well. The key is to have proper flow rates. Here is the video th-cam.com/video/-3Rg7S4wlAc/w-d-xo.html

    Hi, what is the best set-up for an off-the-grid, no electricity, manually cycled aquaponics system? Thanks!

    • @redstone1999
      @redstone1999 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only one way I know is, a continous gravity flow system ( I use this for my brook trout and cold crops ). Tap into a spring/pond/lake uphill and control the flow into fish tank. Follow the alternative system shown (except the sump tank is the second fish tank or outlet). ' Manually cycled system ' would require you hauling water from sump to fish tank 24/7. You need the water in system in continous movement to function.

      C.h.o.p. constant height one pump. Pumping from the sump in all directions you can have your tank and beds set at different heights in you need to.

    • @TheSchoolofAquaponics
      @TheSchoolofAquaponics  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +chad Yes, you are able to put the pump in the tank instead of the sump, but the sump provides additional benefits that you don't get when you do aquaponics without it.

    What is the point of the fish? Thanks

    • @Bman-zn5jz
      @Bman-zn5jz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fish supply the source of amonia through their waste. The bacteria in the system consume the amonia and turn it into nitrates the plants use to grow. Fish poop natural fertilizer.

    How many feet of lettuce can I grow with my fishes?
    Yes, it's me again.
    My goal is to harvest 5 ton / year in a superintensive system with the Pirarucu (Arapaima Gigas), and to feed my community with the help of one of our largest Amazonian fish. The initial stock of 4 tanks (15000 liters) is 90 fish with 0 , 5 kg each, which means 45kg initial stock weight. I will harvest the fish with an average weight of 13.5 kg. Pirarucu FCR 1.9 and FER 53. As I learned in your videos the other tanks will be stocked after 3, 6 and 9 months so after one year I will harvest every 3 months. The point is that my feed rate does not rise, it jumps. I will list for you my input in kg daily for each tank in activity from month 1 to 12 (1.5 / 2.0 / 3.0 / 3.8 / 5.2 / 5.7 / 7.1 / 8.8 / 8.1 / 9.3 / 10.5 / 12.0)
    The monthly input for each active tank is (45/60/90/114/156/171/213/264/243 * / 279/315/360). A total of 2310kg every 12 months (* decreased feed rate and increased FCR).
    Now the total monthly input from the first to the twelfth month. First tank (45/60/90) + add 2th (159/216/261) + add 3th (372/480/504) + add 4th (651/795/864). A total of 4497 KG / year of feed.
    I have not yet been invited to your next courses, I still do not know proper flow rates, proper aeration, proper plumbing, if the nutrients did not get very diluted in such amount of water (15,000 liters), etc.
    How to balance an AQP system from here? 1 tank to 2 grow beds?
    Yes, I have great faith in me. And my mentor has the name of my favorite Archangel, so I strongly believe nothing can go wrong!

      Ok let's back up for a minute and clarify a few things. Here are some questions that need to be answered or clarified.
      1. The initial stock of 4 tanks (15000 liters) is this all 4 tanks or each tank?
      2. I will harvest the fish with an average weight of 13.5 kg. Is this per fish or total fish per tank?
      3. 90 fish with 0 , 5 kg each, which means 45kg initial stock weight. I think you mean 45g not 45kg
      4. How long will it take to reach harvest weight from the initial stocking size of 45g?
      Clarify these questions then we can move on to the next portion.

    • @MsBigbird2012
      @MsBigbird2012 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. Each tank
      2. Per fish. It can reach 3 meters in length. 13,5 kg is a baby.
      3. Initial stock weight 45 kg.
      4. One Year

    • @TheSchoolofAquaponics
      @TheSchoolofAquaponics  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm confused on how you can have a harvest weight of 13.5 kg, but an initial stocking weight of 45kg. That means the initial stocking weight is heavier than the harvest weight, which is impossible. Maybe I'm reading something wrong. Clarify that. When you say 45kg are you referring to the individual fish or all 90 fish??

    • @TheSchoolofAquaponics
      @TheSchoolofAquaponics  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      90 fish that weigh .5 kg = 45kg total. Got it.

    • @MsBigbird2012
      @MsBigbird2012 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      initial stock of 90 fishes with 0,5kg each = 45 kg. I will harvest after a year a biomass of 1257 kg.(final stock). The weight gain will be 13,5kg per fish.

  • @mrmetrontech77

    This isn't accurate. It should ALWAYS go FISH - FILTER - SUMP - PLANTS...never ever split. Never go from PLANTS - SUMP - FISH. Your asking for massive problems. YOU ALWAYS NEED A SOLIDS FILTER....

    • @thecontrarian9933
      @thecontrarian9933 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It looks he's feeding dirty water from the fish and clean water from the plants into the sump so it's constantly feeding some dirty water back to the fish and some clean water to the plants. Shouldn't there be a more circular pattern like the alt system showing fish to plants to sump? Boom!
