When the opening credits say it is in TECHNICOLOR, then that means it was filmed using Technicolor film, Technicolor cameras and the unique Technicolor 3-strip process. Cinematographers underwent special training. The one drawback was that the cameras were extremely large and heavy, which meant that many Technicolor films were done on sets, not on location. Usually the credits will also include the “Technicolor advisors”, who were mandated to be on set when Technicolor was used. Technicolor is known for its rich, very saturated colors, its especially vibrant shades of red and green and its longevity as a superior film stock, and ability to be restored/conserved so that it will maintain its quality. Since Hitchcock gave symbolic meaning to the use of reds and greens in many of his films, Technicolor fit his aesthetic very well.

Movie was shot in color. There were lots of color movies in 1954.
Other color movies by Hitchcock: North by Northwest and Dial M for Murder
Vertigo and Rope are two Hitchcock movies starring Stewart.

Have you watched It's A Wonderful Life" starring Jimmy Stewart? In my opinion, his finest role, bar none, and one of the finest movies, ever.
Villain is played by Raymond Burr. One of his earliest roles was the lone American in the original Godzilla movie. After Rear Window, he went on to become lawyer Perry Mason for many seasons, both in the original one-hour shows and later in made-for-tv-movies. Also a stint as Ironsides, a tv detective in a wheel chair.
Burr had a terrible weight problem which he fought his entire life. But for Rear Window, Hitchcock had him pack on some pounds and to gray his hair, so he was a dead-ringer for David O. Selznick, a famous director who butted heads with Hitchcock.
Woman who plays the visiting nurse is Thelma Ritter. Her first role, uncredited, was the 1940's Miracle on 34th St. (another awesome movie). She continued as a character actor with her heavy Brooklyn accent and her down-to-earth advice in many movies in that era.
Movies filmed in color back then listed "technicolor" in the credits, so yes, this movie was filmed in color. (Psycho was an oddity in the run of Hitchcock movies being filmed in black-and-white because Hitchcock thought audiences couldn't handle "all" the blood in that movie. Also, it was filmed with his tv crew for his tv series, Hitchcock Presents.)
The guy is delivering a block of ice because apparently someone still has an actual icebox type refrigerator. Put the ice up top and the food stays cool in the insulated appliance as the ice melts. Mechanical refrigeration and air-conditioners date back to the turn of the century, but they used poisonous gases like ammonia as the refrigerant. Freon was not invented until 1928, but it took awhile to replace plain old ice. (And the ice wagon was probably still pulled by a horse.)

Great reaction! I think this is Hitchcocks best film. Thorwald was modeled after David O Selznick, who was hitch's producer earlier in his career on the picture Rebecca. This is a great rabbit hole in which to delve. Have you ever seen 2001? Dya like classic horror? The Omen, The Exorcist and The Abonimible Doctor Phibes are all great. 12 angry men, Burnt Offerings, Harold and Maude, Rose Marys Baby all great older films. Oh, one last one i bet you never heard of called The Girl Most Likely To...

LB and Lisa's relationship problem at the beginning of the movie is that both wanted the other to change. She wanted him to settle into a photographer job he would not like and he needed her to be a girl that goes on photo assignments with him. Trying to force a change never works in my opinion and yes, L.B was a bit of a jerk in the beginning of the movie. Great reaction!

Hitchcock liked to set himself constricting challenges but still allow for creativity, so for instance, this film has the one set, another one “Rope” was done with no visible cutting/editing so it appears to be one long take; “Lifeboat” was another limited set. There are others but I don’t want to give away too much and spoil them for you. You also will notice Hitchcock repeated themes (the innocent person swept up and mistaken for being dangerous) or locations (trains.)

10:30 WRONG ... she is NOT "trying to support him", she is trying to "shape him to HER WISHES"!
Look at her story again closely ... she STARTS "not listening to him / his desires" and ENDS "adjusting HER LIFE to SUIT HIS LIFESTYLE". This is how "marriage" SHOULD BE ... COMPROMISE (with the bread winner/man determining the style). If you look at today's dating world you will see A LOT of women who are ENTITLED and INCAPABLE/UNWILLING OF COOPERATING with the man! This is the cause of the high divorce rate.
