Today's vid is just an insight into what I do when I want to improve on elements of my photography, with Autumn coming I wanted to start brushing up on my woodland scenes. I was introduced to this location at a meet up wiith the "Thumbs Up Photography" group, check them out if you haven't already 👍👍 facebook.com/groups/1766973296972741/
Hi Steve great vlog from a stunning location and somewhere that I will hopefully visit a few times through the Autumn especially as it's under an hour's drive away. Those cars parking up 🤔 🐶 😂
Love the sunrise shots but I am a sucker for a sunrise or sunset. Octopus tree is fabulous as well. I really liked the way you talked us through each shot, interesting to hear your thoughts 😊
The first spot you parked up is a well known place where people set up bird feeders and there are several people with limited mobility who use their cars as a 'hide' to photograph the birds and when someone comes along and blocks the light out they move on. It is also illegal to camp (van or tent) on the Chase overnight. That said it is a wonderful place for woodland photography. Just past the octopus tree there is a small path on the right (going downhill) where there is another spreading birch tree on a slope that you can get some great angles to shoot from.
It wasn't all that long ago when five vans rocked up there each with a single male occupant. 🤣 Some nice shots there Steve, if I were to offer any tips it would be look into the distance and use a long lens. Rain is also good in woodland as it can be used it to create atmosphere. The image (20:00) I think would possibly work in portrait orientation using the bunch of trees in the center as the main subject.
Practice makes perfect as they say.......photography is subjective and everyone looks at images differently. I wonder if the shot on 19:43 would benefit from a square crop eliminating the clumps either side of the central group of silver birch and berries? Just a thought, though there may be something overhanging from the trees on the left that's difficult to see on my laptop. Great vid though 👍
Thank you Steve 👌 Yes, I agree a tighter shot would have worked much better for that scene, I definitely needed to work the scene some more for that shot 👍👍
Interesting video steve and some nice shots. I love silver birch. Might I ask what carpark you were in. Have been to cannock chase a few times myself but never stumbled across this bit. Cheers.
Thanks John, it was Coppice Hill 👍, I was introduced to it at a meet up with the Thumbs Up Photography group, if you dont know of it, check them out mate. facebook.com/groups/1766973296972741/
