Now I know Australia does models like locomotives and I myself have one in my possession of an steam locomotive, but in the back of my mind I just needed something like this. I like the detail you put into this one but if any sort of feedback would be from me is possibly adding more detail to the cab such as proportioning the grills, but your not at all far from it, in fact this is quite the spectacle you have built.
Cheers mate! Me too, I think it is about time we see more models with the arm on the left haha. Yeah I need to work on the cab, this cab is the one off of the old truck and I redid the steps and made a new grille but it really needs just a new cab from fresh I think! Cheers!

Now you’ve done this, I’ve toyed with the idea to have a crack at making a JJRE sideloader, due my obsession with their massive older 35m units. I’ve thought about it being a lot easier to control the arm speed operation using linear actuators (more expensive than servos😬), however the amount of pivots/linkages in the setup of their lifters adds to the challenge. kinda hard to find the time for a hobby like this when you drive them for 50-60 hours a week. Love the work mate, it’s an absolute tease with the infrequent updates/videos on but it’s understandable with a work in progress. Wouldn’t happen to be able to share what 3d printer setup you’ve got going on?

The local waste stream gets wooden objects in it occasionally over here. The garbage truck doesn't care, it just compacts it all. What size and grade of wood do you reckon the compactor would safely handle? The real life compactor doesn't care what kind of wood it is, it just busts it apart with several thousand pounds of hydraulic pressure per square inch. Another thing we get a lot of in the waste streams here is styrofoam, the lightweight white molded variety that TV's and most electronic goods are packaged in. Would be interesting to see what scaled down diameter would fit in the hopper.
Cheers mate, I reckon this is about the limit of it haha, these motors are pretty weak when running at lower rpm like the packer one does. It would, I'll have to cut up some small bits of it!
@@TassieGarboWith motors for the purpose you're using them for, you need to look at what gives the best torque. More torque will mean better compaction. Scaled down to the model of course. 😀

I thoroughly love your attention to detail. I have two questions: • is it possible to slow the electronics down to give an even more realistic touch? • Have you consider making and selling these as working models for those passionate about garbage trucks?
Cheers mate! Means a lot from you! Yes, theoretically it should be. At the end of last year when I started making this truck one of the goals was to slow the arm down and increase the controllability, as this truck doesn't operate like a Bucher etc., as the joystick acts as a potentiometer to map the arm to a specific position rather than just up of down at a certain speed. Therefore the joystick has to be held in position to keep the arm halfway up. These motors are servo motors which are fairly weak and difficult to control, so I was going to use stepper motors which would allow the truck to be controlled like a Bucher etc. and would slow the arm speed, but I'm not very good at programming so I could not figure it out, however if I was to figure it out I think I would implement it to this truck. I definatley want to, but they take a long time to make.
