It's not to prove anything. The reality is that the England squad would be strengthened by having to compete in the qualifiers, thereby standing a much better chance of winning the tournament itself.
The real reason is not really explained in here. Usually a competition is hosted in 1 or sometimes 2 countries (like Japan + SK) but this time there are 5 teams that are listed as hosts (England, Wales, Scottland, Ireland + ROI as they technically also have their own squad). But the organizers thought that giving 5 teams automatic qualification would be too excessive for the tournaent, so there are only 2 who get in that way. As England has by far better teams than Wales and Northern Ireland they agreed to let weaker squads take the automatic spots as that could let most of them play the tournament at the end. This is also so most of the host nation team are able to participate at the tournament at the end.
@@RoyalRegimentofScotlandWe’ve had fans murdered by Turks, young lads stabbed and robbed in Italy and France. But if we sing it’s coming home and get too drunk, we are apparently the scum of Europe. English hooligans died off decades ago, the way the media portrays us these days is ridiculous.
Respect for allowing Ireland and Scotland to have the automatic spots, we have the stronger chance of qualifying naturally but it’s still a risk. But giving up our spot for the other two counties? Respect that decision.
You're wrong in multiple ways. England didnt reject anything, UEFA decided that they couldnt have 5 teams automatically qualifying and so all of the hosts have to go through qualification. If england had hosted the tournament by themselves then they would have auto qualified and theres no way they would have rejected it - we'd have just arranged a bunch of friendlies.
The team, staff, the organisation, and the entire sport industry will benefit more from the team playing through the qualifying stages than they would otherwise.
Actually, don’t underestimate England. You’d think it’s just utter chaos that their rejecting their spots but rather to fight for their place for the euros. Their actually a strong team, you have superstars like Phil foden, Jack Grealish, Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and their not to be overlooked.
I see this as a really nice gesture tbh, seen as only two host nations can automatically qualify it gives wales Scotland and Ireland to get into the tournament without bother, personally I’d give it to wales and Ireland cos I have a feeling Scotland can qualify with the form there currently on
England have made it to the semi final of the last 2 World Cups and were runners up in the last European Championship so England have as much chance to win it as anyone else.
I mean tbh I don't mind it. The last thing you want is during the 26/27 and 27/28 season International breaks being only friendlies like Germany has atm. The International breaks are already boring enough without every game being a friendly
Makes sense tbh as all of them games would be good for the team to warm up and get an idea on players to pick for the tournament. England will qualify no problem.
Its a bit different when there are 5 home nations. usually theres 1 free entry for the host and 1 free entry for the holder but im sure this was part of the negoiation for the British Isles to host the euros, they cant have 5 for free
Its good, otherwise too many countries will qualify for that euros. And it will keep England sharp. Euro 2028 seems great euro 2024 will be great too England and Germany the two most football crazy countries in Europe
It would be typical, England fail to qualify, get through by being the hosts and then go on to win and everyone disputes it as they were knocked out already
That's because you're on of life's sidechicks... I'm sure if it was your country youd be begging the world for applause. England not sell outs. They'll earn their place in their tournaments. Unlike Qatar and that farce we see last year.
Well if they do qualify then don't be disappointed. Three out of the other host nations that are Ireland, ni, Wales and Scotland will still not qualify and you can mock them.
Considering England usually play teams like Gibraltar, some people who live in a closet in Lichtenstein & my dead Nana's cat... I'm reasonably sure they'll qualify.
@@stu4768It really wouldn't. If there wae a team Great Britain for the last 200 odd years just think of how insane those teams could've been England are already have had great squads then add on players like Ian rush , Gareth bale , Kenny dagleish , Robinson, souness, Dennis law , best ect ect Britain would've literally won so many trophies
Shows the confidence in the quality of the England team, I don't see any other nation giving their free chance to another country. Anyone looking at this as a bad thing is clearly reacting to who did it not what they did...
I feel like the 2 auto apots should just go to the Irish teams since England, Wales and Scotland all have the highest chance of qualification normally.
On the flipside - just imagine 5 countries being automatically qualified for the tournament and how that would likely force UEFA to alter the qulaification by a lot.
In reality its because the other 4 are unlikely to all qualify and any of them not qualifying would be bad for the tournament where as this way theres a better chance all will qualify. I cant help but think having 5 countries host it is overkill but whatever

most england thing ever, kane will be retired by that time so interested to see their 2028 team
Kane will be 34 in 2028 and doesn't rely on pace so what makes you sure he will be retired?
That can only be a reaction to Germany being fully prepared for the home-tourney ... surely
The team, staff, the organisation, and the entire sport industry will benefit more from the team playing through the qualifying stages than they would otherwise.
Excellent sportsmanship England! giving a chance to the other members of the UK
England will qualify anyway so good for them to offer up the other two places
I swear to god if they don’t qualify the manager has to retire
Sounds like they tryna avoid a germany
Yes. We scared of them after they lost 2-0
If they somehow don't qualify it will Be the funniest shit ever.
Bro, if we dont qualify im off to big ben to do a lil artwork to englands no.1 prize 😂😂😂
The Lion does not take hand outs from the cattle
Unfair that Ireland Scotland Wales and northern Ireland now have to try qualify after paying to host it.
No one is overlooking them, play qualifiers or not they'll most likely qualify
I doubt Kane will be in the mix in 5 years
Wow really? Thanks. I didn't know how big England stars have become because I fell into a coma foe the past 6 years.
@@QuotidianStupidityhe said in a recent interview he’d like to be present for Euro 2028 and that he hopes his career goes on until his late thirties
@@LjuboCupic1912 I’m sure he would, but he will be very slow by that point. I don’t see it
England would never shoot itself in the foot
A least we have the balls to reject auto qualifying.
I see this as a really nice gesture tbh, seen as only two host nations can automatically qualify it gives wales Scotland and Ireland to get into the tournament without bother, personally I’d give it to wales and Ireland cos I have a feeling Scotland can qualify with the form there currently on
Only playing friendlies does not improve a team. That is what experience shows. So it is a good decision to do the qualification.
The youth sides enjoy your trophies while you can..because when you reach the senior team...you ain't gonna see any more.
Fair… poor Ireland and co tho
really giving the universe’s script writer a golden opportunity for comedy
England, Wales, NI and Scotland will host it just for none of them to make the semi finals.
I mean wales already did in 16 so I don't mind that
England have made it to the semi final of the last 2 World Cups and were runners up in the last European Championship so England have as much chance to win it as anyone else.
if they fail to qualify after buying football and taking it home with them itll be iconic
I mean tbh I don't mind it. The last thing you want is during the 26/27 and 27/28 season International breaks being only friendlies like Germany has atm. The International breaks are already boring enough without every game being a friendly
Oh it's already written in the stars, this will be the funniest shit when they don't qualify
Come on people. Get behind my campaign for knight hood for the greatest Bobby Moore.
England don't have anything to worry about. Italy though...
Makes sense tbh as all of them games would be good for the team to warm up and get an idea on players to pick for the tournament. England will qualify no problem.
England drill gang of Europe
Its a bit different when there are 5 home nations. usually theres 1 free entry for the host and 1 free entry for the holder but im sure this was part of the negoiation for the British Isles to host the euros, they cant have 5 for free
Remember when they didn't qualify in 2008 even with Rooney,Lampard, JT, Rio Ferdinand,Beckham, Gerrard etc😂
Whys there a shock? All very egotistical players who wouldn't work together
How is this relevant? it's 2023 now, not sure if you've caught up yet...
@@mickyblue9658 not relevant? It's got to do with England, and England not qualifying for the euros, its a look back
I think england, scotland, ireland, and wales will qualify. Northern ireland will get auto qual if they dont
"What a pity, Mr. Bond." - FIFA
this has the potential to backfire tremendously.
It won't
@@TrickyTree84 Well, you never know, i bet the Italians never imagined they Will not play in a world cup, and that happened twice in a row.
For the first time i don't want us to qualify be great wouldn't it 🦁🦁🦁
Brexit has now reached football
Its good, otherwise too many countries will qualify for that euros. And it will keep England sharp. Euro 2028 seems great euro 2024 will be great too England and Germany the two most football crazy countries in Europe
It would be typical, England fail to qualify, get through by being the hosts and then go on to win and everyone disputes it as they were knocked out already
Wouldn't really be typical as England have only failed to qualify for the euros once in 20 years so the chances of them not qualifying are very slim
How would it be typical? England's record is being pretty much the best in the world at qualifiers/friendlies, and then failing at knock-outs.
Imagine if they don't qualify 😂
As if
😀 & I’m from England
It really doesn't take that much imagination. But I think the pitch should be widened to accommodate our sideways play.
!! Mexico should do this for the Next World Cup but knowing them they won’t 🤦🏻♂️
You say it would be funny but they've done the decent thing.
It’s called earning your spot by playing football and not using money. I don’t see that as crazy, plus no one can say they didn’t earn it.
this is basically the equivalent of Brexit
Because you’re craven?
It's got absolutely nothing to do with brexit. The ignorance of some ppl is staggering
if they dont qualify itll be the most england moment ever
If southgate still in charge it might jsut happen , maguire will still be in the team in 2038
All this means,as a Scot,is the commentators will have more games to say england this england that and 66 constantly and dis the opposition.
England qualified already
All EPL teams will be crazy angry with The FA. Increasing unnecessary load on players is not gonna bode well with them
What you think they wouldn't play friendlies during the time qualifying matches are on, you know like every country who hosts a tournament have done?
oh my, England failing to qualify to their own tournament would be pure gold
That's because you're on of life's sidechicks... I'm sure if it was your country youd be begging the world for applause. England not sell outs. They'll earn their place in their tournaments. Unlike Qatar and that farce we see last year.
Well if they do qualify then don't be disappointed.
Three out of the other host nations that are Ireland, ni, Wales and Scotland will still not qualify and you can mock them.
Just not going to happen tho is it. I reckon Pep will be in charge by then. :)
@@tombowes2280clubs?
If we fail to qualify then that’s fine we didn’t deserve to be in the tournament.
At least on paper England has a great squad. I doubt they won’t qualify
Voice sounds like my last scam caller 😁
the scenes if we don't qualify for our own tournament
Out bidding for 2028 they where the only bid when Turkey pulled out to host in 2032
No... they have done it for the money... TV money and Wembley attendances...
I actually respect that decision
Good old England
Considering England usually play teams like Gibraltar, some people who live in a closet in Lichtenstein & my dead Nana's cat... I'm reasonably sure they'll qualify.
Imagine if Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England had one United team. They would dominate.
