I’ve never grafted but I was told to make sure the lava doesn’t flip over in the royal jelly as this will ‘drown’ the lava and it’ll perish. I’m presuming you place it in the cup the same side it was laying in the cell

By the sound of bees hitting the microphone it seems they are very tetchy.
We’re they subdued with smoke before shaking them down?

Not enough and it was during a dearth....not ideal.

@@BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer yes that makes sense just like when a swarm has been out looking to establish their combs they can run short of food in cold wet weather and can turn quite tetchy and need careful feeding to get them settled.
Thanks, I enjoyed your instructive presentation

Thank you for sharing your queen rearing technique, love to see a follow up from the 10th day you put them into there new colonies . Technically day 14 from larvae age approximately, I’ll definitely give grafting a go again , my bad failures in the past I think now I can do better , I appreciate all your videos . Look forward to seeing more . 👍 liked and subbed.

Have you ever tried the nicot system? I'm not very good at grafting. I've tried a few times and my take is not very good.

I’m in New Brunswick, with similar weather as you. I am wondering how late in the season I could make a split with hopes of getting it strong enough for over wintering? Preferably I would be using a queen cell from an existing colony rather than a walkway split. Thanks.

I am planning to make nucs with these queen cells so its not too late if you feed them well they could still be double deeps by late Fall I will plan to overwinter these as singles or nucs

I do the same in Ireland, I make up 6 frame nucs to overwinter after our summer flow around mid to end of August - I sell these the following May

I really like your teaching videos. I’m not a fan of 3 or 4 guys having a discussion about what they like. You learn nothing about beekeeping. Only what they like. One on one is definitely the best videos.

Yes, you’re so right. As they say, ask 5 questions to 5 beekeepers and get 5 different answers. I had a fabulous mentor many years ago and only did it the way I was taught. I do find the queen rearing particularly interesting as every knowledgeable beekeeper has their own twist on it. Great stuff 😊

Wondering how these queen cells are stored or if this process needs to be repeated and how often? Thank you! Not boring to me!

Peter you have to stop ripping cells apart! First take your jacket off to graft, probably more comfortable. Check out "skinny beemans" video on grafting (part 1 or 2). I sanded down the bamboo tip and literally just "dart throw" into a cell. Ride it down the side and it slips right under and pulls out clean. Been 90+ % for 2 years now.

Dude, Respect.. but dont you think youd have a better yield if you at least sterilized the little grabber tool? It's lookin pretty groddy...juus sayin

Ha Peter dont take this the wrong way grafting is hard you have been doing it for years and it is still hard for you. I have found it is very hard and u did not make it look easy because it is not I did it for the first time this year I tried to make 10 and had 2 takes with no queens going to try again next year. But at lease I know it is not me it is just plain hard and u were honest about it and I thank u for that., hope u have a good week end

It is only my 3rd or 4th time grafting but when I checked yesterday I believe I had 23/27 take but we'll see in a day or two.
