    So Beautiful! One of mine pindos is about that same size in my front yard. It is a split palm and has grown pretty fast since I planted it back in May 2016. It has a thick trunk and probably a little over 6 ft tall.

    Hi. I just love your videos. I am in Salem Oregon, USDA Plant Zone 8b. A few questions.... Is B. capitata & B. odorata the same plant, or two different species? How cold hardy is your blue B. capitata? I thought I would look for one for my area. Do you buy your palms locally, or do you ever buy palms and have them shipped to you? Thanks again for your great videos.

      Butia capitata is the legacy name that is now considered Butia odorata. So the same palm. Fronds on mine start taking damage under 20F at tips. Dry cold is better for them. Several people have had problems with them spear pulling in your area due to wetness. If you don't already have one, a Trachycarpus fortunei is your best palm. I get palms both locally and online.

    Allen, for your wire cages do you use one layer of the Dewitt 1.5oz fabric or two?

    • @tntropics
      @tntropics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just use one layer that is clipped on using those small size 'binder clips' like you use on paper. You can use the dewitt fabric or look for 6' rolls of 'planket' material (www.homedepot.com/p/Planket-6-ft-x-50-ft-Frost-Cover-Roll-11300/306165164) Remember the palm is wrapped on the inside of the cage. that is where it stays warm. The wire cage is more of a snow/ice/rain/wet protection then warmth.

      @@tntropics Yes Sir. I was looking at each step of unwrapping and couldn’t determine about the outer layer being single or double. Anything wrong with a few extra layers of cloth underneath for say a Washingtonia robusta? Also, how would you say the Dewitt cloth differs from planket?

      On Home Depot Search '6 ft. x 50 ft. Frost Cover Roll' as that link is not working

      @@garrettenglish6094 It's mainly the color. Do you like the look of white or green? The plankets have these neat 10' circle ones that can be the top cover to the palm. 6' if you have a smaller one but keep in mind a 10' cover only is about 5' tall when put over the plant.

    It survived because it was protected. Jubaes are hardier. Jubaes are probobly as hardy as a Chamerops possibly.
