This is not a charger. This is a power supply. You are simply supplying power to your BMC circuit connected to your batteries which does the actual charging.
And a charger is just a power supply. No need to get pedantic. The name is correct as it describes the unit's function rather than it's physical composition.
What do you use to power a laptop?
You could add knobs for changing voltage and amps
bingo....jumper wires for a break board in the holes for the trimmer pots to some regular pots that match the value of the trimmer pots (usually 10K or something similar)
Very impressive work. Thank you for sharing.
That's the quality content I am looking for
How come I didn’t find your TH-cam videos sooner!! You make great videos! 👍
Hello, you have inspired me to make my own power bank, the only problem I have is that I do not have a connection to the electrical grid, there is a way to charge a bank like this or double it with a solar panel and if so, could you just tell me how, thank you and I appreciate the time you take to teach us what you know in your videos. Good luck!!
One could use a computer adapter in place of tha ac/dc power pack. The step down converter is the only active device.
But your amps will be more limited. For example my hp 90watt only does 4.74 amps. The one he shows up to 10 amps if you use a fan.
Finish it off with some drywall screws haha. Seriously though, nice! I will be making one of these, appreciate the 3d print model
If i were to make this, i would remover the potentiometer on the buck/boost converter and use a wire to extend it and use a bigger potentiometer with knobs to make it accessible to change voltage and current without opening the case to turn the potentiometer by a screw. I would also replace the Xt60 by a female banana plug. Then it would be a variable power supply and a charger at the same time.
Excellent video ! Thank you!
nice project but please add heatshrink tubing when you install a mains plug ;)
Can i use 4015 module❤
It doesn't stop!
isnt 15.6V tad bit high?? that bms board usually using 12.6 to 13.8V round.....
Where's the part where you build it? Looks like you're just assembling some off the shelf boards into a 3D printed case.
Pure gold jj . Now time for my jj
I bought one of those 300w buck converter
When checking on voltmeter, it provided 8A at 12V, and the wires became hot
But when connected my load, it dropped to 3.5A at the same voltage
What is the problem?
I'm using a 19V 6.32A laptop power supply
By the way, the cleanest diy battery charger project ever made
Clean case and tidy interiors look great
Video quality is awesome
Edit: It is a peltier module and with proper cooling it can pull upto 6A
So why is it only getting 3.5A
Sounds like that is all the battery needs, at the set voltage, to force more current, you can turn the voltage up, but that will over charge on the top end of battery voltage, you would need to turn it back down, or shut it off when the battery is full. It's best to leave it as is, and not leave lithium battery on charger, or add a battery charger controller, go disconnect at the full charge voltage, from amazon, or eBay, and are programmable, from about 6-80 vdc, and about 30amps, it's basically a voltage controlled relay,
Hi, Can you please guide that how we can modify your project to charge NiMh Type battery?
Required, INPUT > 220VAC, OUTPUT > 190 to 220VDC with 1 to 8amp
Great video! how do you know when battery pack is fully charged? when amp gets to zero ?
Nice looking charger....love that case....
Thanks
This will not charge you batteries correctly... Only a noob will change with cc cv I will work for bulk charging but not recommended if you want to charge to %100... Or charge from flat
This will work fine as long as you have a BMS on the battery pack. Without a BMS, I don't recommend using this. Pretty straight forward build. Well done.
@@andreykldjian a BMS will not lower the amperage at end of the charge.. or start of low and work its way up "in amperage" like a proper charger will... And it's the same with lead acid battery.. needs a bulk/ float and equalise stages. If your battery is at %40 capacity then it's ok to charge it to around %80 or so with this DIY power supply.. because that's what it is a power supply.. not a battery recharger
@@brookerobertson2951 of course the amps will drop towards the end of charge, any other way would be kinda hard. but yea no soft start or shuttoff.
I agree, what is a easy option? I know ic's are avalible, for dc to DC charging of lithium batteries, that's a bit of work,
I agree and even with the use of a BMS it will not work correctly as the bms needs a charge controller to taper the charge. A proper charger gives a trickle as the battery reaches it's storage capacity. The BMS would just cut out leaving the battery only partly charged.
Great 👍🏽 job bro
Very nice. Which 3D printer do you use?
Nice and clean
The diagram wiring volt meter & ampere meter, how to connecting?
Jaisu bhai.... I am from bandel
Steve, thanks. The question is , don’t you require balance charge cables to run into balance charge port? Similar
to JST PH series 4 pin modular connector? How will you determine if each cell has reached 4.20V. Just curious.
Will appreciate response. Thanks and 73s
That's why I've used BMS in the Pack , BMS do the Balance Charging
@@SteveWillsonKujur hey,i want to build a simmilar charger for a drill battery with integrated bms with cell balancing but will it automatically shut off at 21V which is for 5s batteries?Do i need alternate circuit to monitor the voltage of my battery or does it automatically stop charging at that voltage?
Steve, thanks. I have similar setup with BMS controlling the input to avoid over charge and over discharge. But, I also have 4 smaller cables that balance charge individual cells. This set up is charged through SKYRC Charger B6AC+v2.
FYI, I tried charging 3S3P (11.1V) setup with BMS into 13V DC @2A, after watching your video. But instead of charging the 3S3P configuration, the battery got discharged. I’m puzzled as to how you achieved balance charging on your setup. Please contact me I can provide images. That’d be much more clearer than the notes. Thanks and stay safe.
@@SteveWillsonKujur hihihi many people used this board and we used so many wire on jst connection for ballance the chager..🤣😂...i think we not read on datasheet the board...buyying board with balance charger...

I need to charge a 48v 20ah lithium ion battery ?
Steve, the volt meter you are using has 3 wires on the amp meter, the meter I received only has 2 wires on the amp meter and 3 wires on the volt meter can I use it?
Are volt/amp meters very accurate?
and did you print the box. what website did you used?
you have those big heatsinks with no cooling?
How useful if potentiometer extended to outside
Steve, the volt meter you are using has 3 wires on the amp meter, the meter I received only has 2 wires on the amp meter and 3 wires on the volt meter can I use it?
Hi sir how to know if the charging is complete?
The amps.. down to 0
Hey how is the accuracy of the volt amp meter
Nice video, can i use this same system for my 24v lithium power pack. If not which one is suitable for 24v.
Nope you need a charger that can go up to nearly 30V. So use a 36V AC DC power supply and then a buck converter that can handle up to 40V. Just makes more sense all the way around since you can get some pretty. powerful 36V power supplies for the same price as a 24V of the same wattage.
7S lithium ion is max charge of 29.4V at 4.20V per cell.
6S lithium ion is max charge of 25.2V at 4.20V per cell (which this buck converter could not do, it needs to output a voltage at least a volt lower than the input typically and I wouldn't count on being able to adjust a trim pot on the AC/DC power converter to get it up to 26'ish volts)
Those two are your primary number of cells in series we use when talking about "24V nominal" for lithium ion NMC/NCA/etc. LiFePO4 is 3.2V per cell nominal so 8S is a perfect fit for 24V nominal, max charge is 29.2V at 3.65V per cell. I would advise NOT doing 7S or 9S LiFePO4...your BMS options and other accessories become limited and you probably won't be able to use the full voltage range with your inverter/load/whatever
About the only benefit of using a 24V power supply and then a buck converter (like this video) is that if you're mostly charging in the 4.2V to 16.8V range your charger will be bit more efficient...not by a ton but still if you are concerned about how much AC power you are drawing then 🤷♂ (can't think of a reason why, this thing would take like 4 hours to even possibly use 1 kwh) and if you're off grid then you should just be using whatever DC you have available...dont take your DC battery or PV voltage, put it through an inverter to make AC then use an AC/DC power supply to make DC again to feed your buck converter.)
Can U post your 4s3p BMS battery pack? It looks pretty
Thx
I need for a 48v 20ah and 23ah lithium ion battery. Where could I purchase the whole thing, already made ? What is the name of this thing ?
Well u can't purchase the whole thing like that
For small ones they are readymade but for larger ones they are generally DIY
How to order the kit please and mode of payment?
surly the charge rate needs tapering of as the battery increases in charge? This will just carry on pupping current as its more of a simple power supply than a charger. If you have a bms on your li-ions I think it will just cut out leave the battery at a low capacity as the battery needs a trickle charge as it go's up in it's capacity.
That's what your bms is for.
how to sett volt? and how to sett ampere, i think is not simple, not easy as you say
What is the minimum voltage allowed to charge 3s li ion battery back, please reply, the minimum voltage

You making box power bank please
could someone please help me? I built this charger to recharge a 3s2p, as it is possible that as soon as you connect the battery the dc dc converter 300w will short circuit. am I going crazy maybe because I made the wrong connections? I use an ammeter / tester which on the back has 2 red / black cables and the 3 red / yellow / black wires for the tester. the large black wire of the ammeter connects to the negative of the dc-dc, the positive of the dc-dc to the xt60 and the red of the ammeter to the negative of the txt60 do not understand although everything works as soon as connected the battery goes short.
Try doing it without the volt amp metre
hey i want to make a balance charger for my 6s 1300 Lipo batteries.
Can i just use a bms board inside the charger where i plug my balance lead into and properly balance charge my batteries?
Also shouldnt the voltage be regulated up with the time? if i set the charger to xxV it will constantly charge my batteries with the same amount of volts which is bad for the battery?
Any idea?
Hey even I have a 6s battery pack do u know how cAn I charge it
@@Abhyuday_rai i recommend the chargers from Toolkit RC , The model M6D is good because you can charge 2 batteries at the same time, or model M7 for single charging but cheaper
but whats the size of your battery and what do you use it for?
@@CorrexPoE it's a 6s 18650 battery pack

There is differnce between making and assembly (soldering). Making involved lot of things, designing, fabrication, R and D, prototyping and then finally the result. Sort it out in your brain if you don't know the difference.
That's why it's called DIY
