- Veronica and Johnny Garay have four children, including a son who is autistic. Three years before the makeover, Johnny’s mother was killed by a gang member's stray bullet while visiting her son. He and Veronica chose to take care of the five younger brothers and sisters. They lived in a 100-year-old house which was previously built in 1904, was falling down, and had only one working bathroom. The team builds them a three-story house, with the help of some very special workers.
This had been designed by the award-winning Bassenian/Lagoni Architects of Newport Beach, California.

Whatever their surname may be, I am so glad for this family. Seeing their Bibles open together was so moving. I could not stop my tears. 11 years ago my husband passed away and our Bibles were together. His memory has never dimmed.

I really appreciated that they kept the spat about the wood frames in the show. These designers don't just show up and get on camera, they are PASSIONATE about their vision and sometimes that boils over but, at the end, they keep the family as much in their minds as they can (there are certain things they have to consider for entertainment value and sponsorships of course) I know things are done BIG for TV but I really do think the designers and volunteers have the family's best interests at heart
The best Person on this Home Maker Team is Pauli. He works the hardest and is a great Sport.
God blessed the Wofford family and all the people that have been involved in helping to make this happened. 💞💞💞

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” is also known as the "Golden Rule”. The actual quote from the Bible is from Luke 6:31, “And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.” Simply put, this phrase means to treat others the way we want them to treat us.
After these families have found out about the house, the powers that be being the makers of this show, the families, the banks and tax departments, [ maybe not tax departments they dont care as long as they get their moneys ] should all sit down and talk finances and find out if these families can afford all the hidden costs, not to mention electricity, water, rates and yes mortgages, not all the families have their mortgages paid off by the kind builders and public donations. I know i sound like a doubting Susan, but a huge percentage have had to sell these wonderful homes that have been built for them, they have got their hopes and dreams so up high its damned sad and heartbreaking.
Yes all should be discussed before new build there are families who could not afford to stay
I would just want a well build house with enough room no monkey room and style they will outgrow in a short time too over top but it is a show and more outdone more viewers more ad revenue
Yes I agree, I always think about how will they afford the upkeep after the fact.
Shows like these have a LOT going on behind the scenes. There's a ton of meetings with those families before any show goes as far as to be aired.
I've worked in filming and TV so I've been involved in such meetings and community involvement.

Well, you’re the only developed country that has the social system of a non developed one. So you need that community to get by. I see a lot of dilapidated houses on the show. You won’t find that a lot of that in Europe. Our houses are made of brick and built to stay.
Neither would families not know how to pay medical bills. Because Europe has affordable health care for everyone. And social welfare for times of need.

They don't pay.
Its built for them but they still have to pay a mortgage if the mortgage has not been paid through donations from the public and or the builders, there have been a lot of families from this show that have actually had to sell because of overheads and hidden costs that they didnt bargain for.

a three storey house in 7 days? not sure I want a house that was wired in 8 hours over the top of all the other workers
I mean they tend to work through the night to I don’t think the show really had to deal with building constraints and noise curfews that you get with normal construction projects
You can only do that with prefabricated wooden houses. With a house properly build of stones it would be impossible.

No reason why all those older kids can't be helping out, why is it all left to the 16yr old?? There's an 18yr old there that has a pair of hands he could look after some of that housework to help her, there's no need for it all to be left for one child. All those older kids can be given a set of chores to do each, the little ones could also help out with chores appropriate to there age, I also thought the house was huge just the space needed to be better thought out. I live in a tiny 2 bedroom house with just 4 rooms in total and 1 bathroom my kitchen is only 8ft x 4ft there are 7 of us here we manage space is tight but we get by it is doable
Beck started helping out when she was 12. Most of them are 12 and can start pulling their weight around in the house, especially the oldest.
Don't judge people's families.... Fix yours first.... You don't know what others have to go through

Agreed, they can all pitch in and help in some way. Even the little ones can help, just by picking up toys.
It’s not like they don’t all pitch in, but the highest level of stress will always be on the first child because you just worry about every other sibling.

Also every family sitting inside the Black windowed Limo doesn't know how their renovated house looks like.. Before that bus is removed.. You can see from inside the car as to what is happening outside..

@@lucindalavelle4246 Producing children is not love, but having zero contact with reality. It's true that a guy loves kids, but you can't feed a child with love. I know what I'm saying, I used to not even have a toilet at home. Grandfather built a house in 1949 and father added a room, bathroom and central heating and I finished the house almost to the end, 15 years I do it myself after work and I do not complain but I would have to be an idiot having eight children, there is something like contraception, apart from what I would have given these children a future if I couldn't afford a toilet seat ? Responsibility is adulthood.
