    I attended the taping of the first two episodes of To Tell The Truth with my sisters and aunt from Miami back in 1970 at The Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York City. I was 12 years old and thrilled to be there. It's also a great thrill and surprise to come upon these shows. These episodes bring back great and wonderful memories of meeting the great announcer Johnny Olsen who warmed up the audience; he also was so down to earth that he mingled with us. He was so sweet and kind to my sisters and me; he also gave me his autograph, which I wish I had to this day. I was so sad when this game show moved out west to California along with all the others. New York City was on the decline sociologically and economically during the 1970s, and TV Shows, along with many other high-profile businesses, were all making a move out west. Johnny Olsen became a bigger star when he became the announcer for the game show The Price Is Right; Johnny coined the phrase "Come on down......"
    A few months later, I received tickets to attend The Ed Sullivan Show's rehearsal which took place on December 13, 1970. This turned out to be the last Holiday Show that Ed Sullivan did; about February of 1971, his show was canceled. I believed that the Ed Sullivan Show was the last variety show produced in New York City; Los Angeles, California, inherited most of New York's TV productions; it was truly a sad decade for New York City.

    Dr Jules Montenier, (creator of Stopette)according to Bennett Cerf, did not want to relinquish ad time on 'What's My Line?', and wanted to remain the sole sponsor of the program. But as the show grew in popularity, and markets increased, it eventually caused him to have to sell the company to Helene Curtis Industries as ad time became more expensive.
    Cerf said that newsapers were running articles about the sale under the title: "Poof... There goes Dr. Montenier!"

      Bill Cullen was also hosting Three on a Match on NBC at the time as well as other games Eye Guess, Winning Streak, Blankety Blanks, Pass the Buck, and Chain Reaction for producer Bob Stewart. Stewart created To Tell The Truth as well as The original Price Is Right and Password for Mark Goodson and Bill Todman and Stewart left Goodson-Todman Productions in less than amiable terms. Cullen continued as a To Tell The Truth panelist but didn't host any other Goodson-Todman games in the late 1960s to the mid 1970s until the 1976 I've Got A Secret primetime run and substituting for an ill Allen Ludden on Password Plus, and then hosting the 1980-1982 Blockbusters and the 1982-1983 Child's Play games. Not sure if there was some resentment from Goodson with Cullen hosting games for rival Bob Stewart.

    • @gymnastix
      @gymnastix 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tex, that's just a big fat lie, you big fathead!
      Sorry, I had to get that out of my system.
      But even before the era of political and social correctness, I can remember as a child (growing up in the 1960s) hearing adults refer to obese boys as "stocky" rather than "fat." Still other times people would substitute "chubby" for "fat." So there had obviously been attempts to not insult obese persons even before the political/social correctness era arrived. Except then we just called such behavior "being polite."
      And being polite is always in style, especially when one is speaking of or to an otherwise nice person who just happens to have gained too much weight for her/his own good. In such cases, perhaps anonymously passing along the address and/or telephone number of an Overeaters Anonymous meeting is the most one should do to help an overweight person. I think that is what etiquette experts Emily Post and "Miss Manners" might also suggest.
      However one slices those pieces of pie, the fact is we all probably know people who eat too much of that pie and who, if they continue to gorge themslevs and fail to exercise sufficiently, will become fat, as fat as "Fat Fat the Water Rat, fifty bullets in his hat!" And perhaps also as fat as "Fat" of "Fat & Skinny," to wit--"Fat and Skinny had a race/up and down the pillow case/Fatty said it wasn't fair/Because he lost his underwear."
      Signed,
      "Pleasantly Plump" (or "Used to Be Thin").

      @saffronsworld1508 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      gymnastix --- No offense taken. Which brings us to the crux of modern liberal thought. There are too many self-appointed saviors whose goal in life seems to be to keep every person on the planet from having their feelings hurt. They come up with a speech code that borders on the absurd, and that code is ever changing. Example: In Australia, the Santas across the country were told to refrain from saying, "Ho Ho ho." That, according to the overly sensitive libs, would scare children and offend women. So the Santas were instructed to say, "Ha ha ha." That really happened. There is no Utopia on this planet, and the U.S. Constitution does not guarantee us from being offended. Yes, we should be considerate of others' feelings, but we are headed for the day when laws will prescribe what we can and cannot say. The Amendment protecting free speech will be tossed out the window. My previous comment was a knee jerk reaction to the extreme absurdity of political correctness. I would never tell someone that they are fat. So maybe my comment makes me a fathead. Freedom of speech is a precious thing, but the insane political correctness of today is slowly eroding that freedom. Peace out!
