This is talent, unlike most singers who can't really even sing, just auto tune, and then when they play live they're trash. These guys are great though
tsmithkc what you're hearing is the sound of their voices through speakers....maybe a little echo added on occasion. this is what they sound like in person I assure you.
actually I think this is playback..... you can really see it when Kristin and Mitch do their solos.... But I've seen them live and their voices are trully amazing!
earthly truth and they are more talented then most talented people that actually can sing live because they can do different things that most talented people can't do with their voices
He also plays strings, speaks several languages, went to Yale, and was going to go into medicine....... He will go back to medicine ... one of these days...... LOL Yes, he is very intelligent and talented.
But he's just the beatboxer mitch, kristin, and Scott do the main song, and im not saying they're more important because when they sing together it's so beautiful and uplifting.

THIS IS NOT A CHRISTIAN SONG!!! I love it but it makes no sense biblically. It didn’t happen the way Marc Cohen wrote it! He got mixed up with his characters!
I always feel my boy Kevin doesn’t get enough recognition in comparison to the other members. His skill and artistry is the foundation of every song and throughout the years he has constructed some crazy percussion around songs most beatboxers have no clue how to handle. He has a wonderful gift to both blend in or fade back at just the right time while at the same time taking the crescendos to a level, in volume, complexity, and intensity, astounding for a single percussionist all the while constructing them using only his body!!!
So I didn’t know his name was Kevin till I saw your post; he is phenomenal.and each of these guys have their own skillset. Bioody brilliant, ! As we say in Scotland X
@@lorifriel2302 his name is Kevin "KO" Olusola and he's the literal backbone of PTX and I freak out every time they're live because he does it all, at once, without messing up.
The thing that amazed me the most about this video was actually the crowd. They just stood there with the 'candles' and enjoyed the music. No one thad their phone out, which is so rare nowadays.
kevin is just so fascinating to watch am I right? like the way he dances as he beatboxes it always pulls my attention toward him. he seems so passionate and I really appreciate that. not that the rest of them dont seem passionate because of course they do! just it seems my gaze always goes to Kevin (:
Capt. G Same and its so sad that a lot of people dont care about his talent i mean the otbers have great talent dont get me wrong but Kevin is so fascinating :)
Capt. G Exactly the same. My stare goes straight to him. It does look very passionate and that makes me like him a lot. When the others are singing I feel they don't look as passionate for some reason.
THE FACT THAT THIS IS ACTUAL LIVE SINGING WITHOUT ANY LIP SINGING YET IT SOUNDS LIKE THE STUDIO VERSION MAKES ME REALIZE THAT THEY HAVE SO MUCH TALENT OH MY G O D
@carliza loves bangtan !! Hi Carliza, just a very friendly FYI, it's called lip-synching when people synchronize their lips movement to a song but don't actually sing. It's what Milli Vanilli got in trouble for in the early 1990's because someone else was singing/recording their songs but making the public believe it was them by lip-synching pseudo-live performances. It was a huge scandal. LOL! Anyway, I must agree with you... Pentatonix is EXTREMELY TALENTED and real!!! I'm so glad I found them. I will be looking for more. :-) :-) I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their cover of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and Hallelujah. Absolutely brilliant! :-)
Daisy Moraes he left because the not being able to see his family as much as he wanted to was putting stress on him and it got to hard on him. I'm going to miss him
To all the people who think they're lip syncing you are completely wrong Scott changed his part with a bit of vibrato in a couple of places and his voice goes raspy at 03:22 I have seen them live and seen Scott cover the bass on Standing By which Avi sings the lead on. They are amazing better than any other singers I have ever heard sheer vocal beauty.
THANK YOU! Honestly, I don't understand why people think they're lipsyncing. It sounds almost exactly like the studio version, but you can hear a few differences.
100% sure lip synced. Its just impossible to provide this quality of sound and definition in a live concert. Maybe they sung live, but for the video they remastered it with a studio version of the song. :) however, still a good performance + song!
It's sort-of give and take. There are moments when they're undoubtedly live, like when they switch from person to person that has their own specific verse. Scott, Avi, Kirstie, and Mitch each sang live (at least for their start). The chorus and in-betweens I believe were lip synced along with most of the A Capella beat. The end/climax is also live. I'd say it's equal parts live as it is lip synced.
I hated how everyone screamed when each person started singing except for avi and it kills me because I think avi did the best out of all of them . His voice is so deep and so soft like it make me get goosebumps 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Hound Life Vlogs I just watched your Christmas video 🎄 beautiful. You seem nice and what a different experience celebrating Christmas in peak summer! Anyway, Merry Christmas and I subbed ❤🎄❤🎄😊
ohh my god, i literally cannot go one single old pentatonix video without someone from recently talking about this. It's been two years. Matt has different dynamics, and i know we all care about Avi but can we go at least one video without this?
@@twixstari i dont personally have anything against Matt. Obviously they would not have brought him into the group if he wasn't insanely good & didnt bring his own dynamic to the group. I love listening to his songs as well! However, when I first started listening to Pentatonix Avi's voice was the one that caught my attention on a personal level. Its not a bad thing to miss someone who was in the group. Life changes, groups morph & life goes on! I do miss hearing Avi sing though, which is why I subscribe to his Facebook page. That doesn't mean I dont still absolutely love this group!
@@kareneskow4901 personal reasons mainly because him being constantly on tour with Pentatonix resulted in him being unable to see his family and friends
@@kareneskow4901 mostly to spend more time with his family. Cause at the time he left they had just finished tour, and were planning another one (i think), so he wouldn’t be able to see his family
Yes often the others are more recognized, even though as "under dogs" of the group since scott sometime is seen as the lead singer and obvious. But actually that way kinda makes Scott a underdog and might make him being less acclaimed. Also in "Come along" and "waving through a window" you can hear is great vocal range.
I could watch this 1 million times and never get tired of this performance. Apparently incredible. You can feel the emotion behind it. It makes me speechless
The guy beat boxing is absolutely amazing! Easily one of the most talented artists I've ever seen. Everyone else was definitely stunning. But that mans artistry was OUTSTANDING!
Holy fuck, when the second vocalist began, the way he connected with the lyric, I got goosebumps on my arms and my legs. I can't think of the last time that happened. That's just, damn. I didn't realise I could get them on my legs as well as my arms. Jesus that second vocalist expresses such a strong connection to the lyric .
WARNING: Detailed video breakdown and explanation below. Thumb up so others can read for themselves! Allow me to preface this by saying that I am a true, hardcore Pentatonix fan. I have been following them closely since 2011, and I own every single song that's been released on iTunes. I also sing/perform as a vocal bass, and have for many years, so you can imagine that I've probably memorized every solo and bass part that Avi has. I record at home in my own studio and produce, mix, and master all of my vocal samples. I might also mention that I've listened to their studio rendition of Hallelujah countless times. As a hardcore fan, I owe it to pretty much every other fan and, of course, PTX themselves to dig in and defend them when their credibility is under attack. However, as a musician and a perfectionist, I also think it's imperative to call it when I see that something is amiss. Seriously, I could probably out-fangirl most of the people that are going to be pissed off at me (and in blatant denial) after reading this. I have listened (with studio monitors) to this performance about six times now. This next part is going to hurt some feelings. The hive-mind PTX fandom tumblr lurkers are probably going to roast me alive below. Oh well. *1.* Beyond a shadow of a doubt, parts of this performance are lip-synced to a pre-recording. I'm assuming that this was not by choice of the group. You have to realize that big-time producers of prime time television squeeze their margins of error so tightly for things like this, that they probably didn't give PTX a choice in the matter. Parts of it were cherry picked, and their mic gains were adjusted accordingly. Kudos to the guy running the sound. I'm sure he's paid accordingly. *2*. I KNOW what Avi sounds like when he performs live, I've heard him perform in person, and I know for a fact that he did not *flawlessly* copy and perform his solo from the studio recording. It's just not humanly possible. (although, if anyone could do it, it would either be him or Mitch) The timbre, the vocal inflections, the subtle nuances from that ONE take in the studio - It's all there. It's either a direct rip from the studio recording, or it's slightly remastered in an attempt to match the acoustics of this performance hall. Avi did *not* sing his solo live in this video. Sorry guys. They've had some absolutely outstanding live performances lately, but this was not all live. *3.* Scott tripped up a little bit on his entrance at 0:58. Watch his mouth closely. You heard "Da-da-duum" as Avi was about to sing, but you didn't see it from Scott. (and Kevin just doesn't have the range to hit a G2 without serious frying. He's a tenor, through and through.) Lip-sync! Granted, every note I hear afterwards is most definitely Scott, whether it be live or pre-recorded. He has a particular tone when he sings at the bottom of his range, as everyone does. Here's what was real: *1.* Scott's opening verse. That was legit. (They also wouldn't dare lip syncing someone whose face is zoomed in to the max from the beginning. Accidents can happen, as shown at 0:58) The melisma, the "riff ticks", everything. He has a knack for nailing it when it counts. *2.* I do not doubt that Scott sang the bass part during Avi's solo. I am fully aware of his range, and that he sings a D2 in "I Should Tell Ya Momma On You" He is probably capable of frying a low Db or C. *3.* The climax following 3:30 was, for the most part, totally live. Avi was a god here. *4.* Mitch's solo. At least until "It's a cold and it's a broken..." It's Mitch. 'Nuff said. I am a hardcore PTX fan, and I always will be. However, that does NOT reserve the right for me to make excuses for my favorite band when I know otherwise. In an instance like this, I just have to get over it, take a step back and think "wait a minute..." Then the reality hits, and I think "Oh. Primetime National T.V... If it was their choice, they'd do it totally live." Guys, you just have to remember that by participating, they're getting a lot of air time and exposure that a LOT of people will see. The producers of the program pretty much have the final say in what transpires and how things go at these events. That is all. Remember to be civil. We all love PTX, and we have way too many reasons to be happy and just move on. Keep calm, and sing on :)
Effectious well said I'm a huge fan and I'm pretty sure some was recorded but I know they can sing perfectly live so I don't mind, I'm just so glad they have there own special so proud haha 👌👌👌
it _is_ lipsync. I had my doubts, but I've heard them live, and even with her ability there's no way that Kirstie can pull off that high note the way she does here. it sounds almost identical to the video version. Mitch's high note at 3:10 IS the video track. there's a small fade between actual audio and recording, very subtle, but I have an ear for those. if you have the tech, overlay the video track, inverted, on top of this one, and cancel it out. you'll see the difference.
Effectious i just want to say that i really appreciated this!! i had my suspicions watching, and throughout my second and third watch i looked at everything you pointed out. sorry if people are rude to you, but i'm glad someone with knowledge was honest.
Oh good I was not the only one who thought they were lips syncing... when I watched I felt that something was weird because they mouths and the song were not right (Barely though) also at some points, in multiple situations I saw some over exaggeration done with some hard parts which just did not match the tone the song was giving off in the video
This was my wife's favorite song. I love the tune, though the lyrics seem kind of dark toward the end. When she died last year, I composed another verse in her memory. I'm no musician, but this expresses how much I miss her: I've heard it said that love is blind That pain and heartaches all you'll find And baby, it was true until I met ya You lifted me from dark despair And showed me what it means to care And now my heart is singing hallelujah Hallelujah, hallelujah Hallelujah, hallelu----jah This one's for you, love. I miss you!
He is gender fluid and goes by both he/she and him/her. Mitch frequently wears women's clothing, but can also rock the masculine look. I guess it depends on what he/she is feeling that day.
That moment when Avi's solo comes up, and you're listening to him kill it, but then you notice the bass and think, "Damn, Avi is killin' that bass line!" And it suddenly clicks.... Holy Shit, it's freakin Scott!!!! Ugh, why are they all so crazy talented like that!

I know Scott gets the spotlight a lot, BUT HOLY CRAP. We talk about Avi's range all the time (which is amazing, he's my fav) but Scott had to do bass in this song! AND HE KILLED IT!!!
Just once, I'd love to hear a recording of this song by them, broken out into the individual tracks for each singer to hear exactly what they're doing line by line. Especially Scott and Avi, the way they switch back and forth between baritone, bass, and lead, depending on the verse, but come together so seamlessly as a whole.
If you just listen closely, it's pretty easy to differentiate their voices. I don't know how else to help you other than to tell you to learn which voice belong to who, and then just keep your ears peeled. Watching their videos helps too because then you can see who is singing what.
No one is mouthing the bass line when they switch from Avi to Scott at the beginning 0:57-0:58. The bass line continues but Scott doesn't start till after it begins. It's gorgeous but this is clearly pre-recorded guys.
I feel like certain works of art transcend humanity... like this, both this performance and this song are so out of this world it doesn't feel real. It's so much more than just entertaining. It captures your soul with raw emotion.
Pvzzz I agree I listen to The Prayer and Hallelujah and a few other ones everyday. Like you said gives us such an amazing feeling that makes us literally tingle. Avi's voice is magic. It's all so gorgeous!
It's not that Avi could sing the bass note, it's that Avi could sing the perfect note needed for that note in the melody. He is a savant.
Avi will always be missed. He has such a presence and his voice just resonates and reverberates so well almost like a cello or double bass.
Did he leave the group ?? I thought they interchanged members or something !!

This is talent, unlike most singers who can't really even sing, just auto tune, and then when they play live they're trash. These guys are great though
earthly truth There is a huge amount of electronic sugar on this. There's more MIDI than performance going on here.
tsmithkc what you're hearing is the sound of their voices through speakers....maybe a little echo added on occasion. this is what they sound like in person I assure you.
actually I think this is playback..... you can really see it when Kristin and Mitch do their solos.... But I've seen them live and their voices are trully amazing!
earthly truth SO TRUE
earthly truth and they are more talented then most talented people that actually can sing live because they can do different things that most talented people can't do with their voices
The beat boxer is doing 99% of the work and he is nailing it!!!!!
His name is Kevin
True
@Niranjan Rajesh the bass is avi and scott (when avi sing). How did a high tenor (kevin) sang bass???
He also plays strings, speaks several languages, went to Yale, and was going to go into medicine.......
He will go back to medicine ... one of these days......
LOL
Yes, he is very intelligent and talented.
But he's just the beatboxer mitch, kristin, and Scott do the main song, and im not saying they're more important because when they sing together it's so beautiful and uplifting.

Capt. G Exactly the same. My stare goes straight to him. It does look very passionate and that makes me like him a lot. When the others are singing I feel they don't look as passionate for some reason.
Wait until you search youtube that Kevin can speak fluent Mandarin Chinese and can play the cello.

@carliza loves bangtan !!

yep. NOT Live.
Um? You are failing to consider the fact that they can re-record a studio version with slight changes to throw people like you off.
100% sure lip synced. Its just impossible to provide this quality of sound and definition in a live concert. Maybe they sung live, but for the video they remastered it with a studio version of the song. :)
however, still a good performance + song!
TheJoblacki Nah. I saw it.
Specifically, the Up On the Housetop performance.
I so mis Avi singing with this group! He is amazing & his voice cannot be replaced!❤😢
There are 5 completly different personalities and voices but they sound so perfect together

(although, if anyone could do it, it would either be him or Mitch)
The timbre, the vocal inflections, the subtle nuances from that ONE take in the studio - It's all there.
He's a tenor, through and through.)
Lip-sync!
Granted, every note I hear afterwards is most definitely Scott, whether it be live or pre-recorded. He has a particular tone when he sings at the bottom of his range, as everyone does.
Here's what was real:
*1.* Scott's opening verse. That was legit. (They also wouldn't dare lip syncing someone whose face is zoomed in to the max from the beginning. Accidents can happen, as shown at 0:58)
The melisma, the "riff ticks", everything. He has a knack for nailing it when it counts.
*2.* I do not doubt that Scott sang the bass part during Avi's solo.
I am fully aware of his range, and that he sings a D2 in "I Should Tell Ya Momma On You"
He is probably capable of frying a low Db or C.
In an instance like this, I just have to get over it, take a step back and think "wait a minute..."
Then the reality hits, and I think "Oh. Primetime National T.V... If it was their choice, they'd do it totally live."
Guys, you just have to remember that by participating, they're getting a lot of air time and exposure that a LOT of people will see.
Exactly! I'm so proud of how far they've come. I can't hold something against them that wasn't their choice to begin with.
it _is_ lipsync.
AVI his voice is like butter. Mitch is amazing.
can we just have a moment of silence for how beautiful this is
This was my wife's favorite song. I love the tune, though the lyrics seem kind of dark toward the end.
When she died last year, I composed another verse in her memory. I'm no musician, but this expresses how much I miss her:
I've heard it said that love is blind
That pain and heartaches all you'll find
And baby, it was true until I met ya
You lifted me from dark despair
And showed me what it means to care
And now my heart is singing hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelu----jah
This one's for you, love. I miss you!

Just once, I'd love to hear a recording of this song by them, broken out into the individual tracks for each singer to hear exactly what they're doing line by line.
