Cataract surgery recovery time off work.
1. Whether you chose to undergo a LASER/ Bladeless Cataract Surgery or Femtosecond cataract surgery or our Ozil / Phacoemulsification or MICS cataract surgery, these instructions will help you during your post-operative period and also helps in boosting recovery time after cataract surgery.
2. What should one expect immediately after Cataract surgery?
- You may experience a little blurred vision on the day of surgery and this may fluctuate - this is primarily due to the effect of the medicines and drops that are used during cataract surgery.
- Most of the patients do not experience any pain or if they do, it is only some form of boring pain that will subside with mild painkillers that are prescribed with your drops
- Some patients may experience some mild irritation in the eyes, that usually subsides after the first couple drops
3. You are free to restart your normal diet after the surgery. There are no dietary restrictions (other than the ones related to your health condition such as for diabetes or hypertension) following cataract surgery
4. You may watch television or read a book or paper if you are comfortable doing so
5. Walking around the house or in a clean neighborhood is not restricted after the cataract surgery. However, it is advisable to avoid going to crowded places or dusty windy areas immediately after cataract surgery
6. Though you may have a good vision after cataract surgery, it is better to avoid driving immediately in the first 24 hours after cataract surgery.
7. Avoid performing heavy exercises immediately after cataract surgery. However, there is no restriction on walking or light exercise or cooking.
8. Laser Cataract or Normal Cataract surgery also gives you a second chance to help you get rid of your glasses for distance and near. This means you can enjoy a complete range of vision without the need for glasses. However, for those who opt for monofocal lens implantation, their new glass numbers are usually prescribed after a week of cataract surgery.
9. In case you have a cataract in your other eye, you can opt for the 2nd eye cataract surgery, within a couple of days of the first one as well. This eases you to follow the schedule for post-operative drops and also
10. It is important to stick to your post-operative schedule for follow up and medications after successful cataract surgery.
11. Report to us immediately if you experience redness or excessive pain not decreasing with painkillers or excessive blurring of vision or fever after the cataract surgery.

Now is my question: I was a heavy smoker, more than a chain smoker, for this I have smoker's cough and even after medication, I still have cough and once it starts it has a long bout. Cough syrup does not help. In such a situation, should I go for a cataract surgery, and if I do it, will it harm my vision for cough? Will you please enlighten me? I saw you gave replies yo all questions so I am hopefull you would do the same as I need surgeries for both the eyes.
