My idea on why they opted to show the cameras behind the scenes is that in order to progress to the love stage, you must also see what's behind the person you like.

Nah, the lyrics for love dive are literally about getting to know someone, the instant attraction between two people and how you need to take the risk and ‘love dive’ aka try to find love with them, whereas after like is saying, okay we like each other, this is more than it was, so now, is this love?

    • @sameerakhan7455

Ig but honestly, idk. My theory is that both Love Dive and Eleven (Although extremely low key) are about the story of the Greek God 'Narcissus' (Like, hold your breath love dive. Them say that then there being lots of references to water and mirrors. So basically falling in love with yourself) but seeing this, I'm confused.
Maybe we're gonna find out more but for now, just based on this and Love Dive, I think we're focusing on Cupid ig? Not sure at all so please take this with a grain of salt
Edit: I just watched the M/V again and my theory for the cameras and spotlights over them would be that they think they are the center of attention, everyone should focus on only them, they're the best etc. This could be my theory for the cameras and the spotlight. It shows how eye-catching they are that the cameras and spotlights should only be on them (again, take this with a grain of salt).
Edit 2: Okay, it finally clicked in my head. The scene where Yujin has hearts surrounding her is from Madonna's 'Material Girl'. Search up what it is about and it just makes so much more sense.
I also saw a comment (Forms of Therapy reacting to After Like) where they also talked about AL being inspired by 'Diamonds are a girl's best friend'. I looked it up and wow, it just gets even more interesting

I read somewhere that "After Like" was supposed to be released before "Love Dive", but it took much longer time to clear the copyright for the "I Will Survive" sample than expected, so the order got switched. Don't know if that's true, but kinda make sense.

@@theunoriginaldude8345 The first 3 title tracks released by Gfriend were labelled "the school trilogy" and after that they started trying different things. Dreamcatcher also has sets of songs that are supposed to go together which get cut off at a certain point when they switch to something different (i.e. when they released What they said it was the beginning of a new storyline). So it makes sense for IVE to do 3 (or 4?) title tracks that tell one story and then start something new.

    • @ps20900
      @ps20900 ปีที่แล้ว +20

@@MarkDeSade100 That makes sense! I actually researched about their theories and I got only one theory of ‘LOVE DIVE’ which connects with Greek mythology ----
_The concept was based on the origin of “narcissism,” the Greek God Narcissus. There are many versions of the tale of Narcissus. The ending of his story, however, is agreed upon unanimously. Narcissus dies by drowning. He fell into a pond after being so entranced by his reflection. The album cover art for the single spells out the word ‘LOVE DIVE.’ If you look at the colors, the words can be read as “LOVED IVE” instead. It can be inferred that the song meant to convey the meaning that IVE was “diving into love” with themselves. Even the album’s photobook was mirrored between the two halves. The reason for IVE’s concept teasers being based on Cupid? Legend has it that Narcissus fell in love with his reflection because Cupid had struck Narcissus with his arrow. A clever fan even came up with a theory about the adlibs in the song. “LOVE DIVE” features a pre-chorus with the catchy adlib of _*_“ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh.”_*_ The fan thought this to refer to the legend of Echo and Narcissus._
*_“In Greek Mythology, a fairy called Echo was cursed by Hera. Echo was forced to copy other people’s words. Echo fell for Narcissus. But Narcissus was in love with himself and did not accept Echo’s feelings. Ultimately, he died while yearning for his reflection as reflected in the water, but Echo remained by his side until the end, loving him. Of course, Echo was angry at Narcissus for rejecting her and asked Nemesis to punish him, but I really think we can interpret the “ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh” as Echo’s voice if they really have been using the Greek legend of Narcissus. I might be a little too into it, but I think this sort of analysis is fun.” - Fan_*
_The concept seemed to have been planned right from the start. IVE’s debut song, ‘ELEVEN,’ subtly makes references to Narcissus’s legend._
_The last line of ‘ELEVEN’ can be interpreted using the legend._
*“You who is in front of me, and me who is reflected in those eyes [whom] I’ve come to love”*
_Even the verse sung by Yujin after the first chorus seems to allude to Narcissus looking into the pond._
*“The transparence between you and me, when I stay still and look at it, I fall deeper into the wavering waves.”*
      (SOURCE: Koreaboo)

  • @dontmessup1486

I think it's started this way:
    1. They wanted to make an epic ending of an MV with frickin massive fireworks.
    2. The problem is, fireworks cost a lot of money. 😂 So they only had 1 frickin chance to take a shot fr fr.
    3. And since they're using a massive amount of fireworks, they need to find a way to shot that only moment with different angles.
    4. Fireworks need a really wide shot to capture them all in. But then they also need a close-up shot for the sake of the members visual.
    5. To achieve that, they can't find any way but to use wide angle and close up camera at the same time. As the result, the close up camera is captured in the wide angle camera frame.
    6. "Now how about let's just use that as a behind the scene concept in every shot so the audience won't notice." Lmao idk what's wrong with my mind. 🤣

The reason for the behind-the-scenes theme is because you're diving into IVE's world and watching the MV in person. That's why the intro and outro feel like you dove in and out of your new color TV, which became standard in household homes in the 70s around the release of "I will survive." There's a complete lore breakdown by a channel called Doyouram. All three IVE MVs are interconnected and were planned from their "Have What We Want" pre-debut preview trailer. The theme is narcissus and RGB add-it-IVE colors.

I never thought about the reasons behind the choice of showing the cameras in the music video, I just thought they did this to make something different and because it looked cool. But now I wonder why I haven't questioned this more. Actually I never really care about the meaning in kpop songs, so I didn't care this time either. Aligning the meaning of the song and the meaning of the artistic choices in the video when it is rather hidden is so great.

  • @kkyutie3
    @kkyutie3 ปีที่แล้ว +75

actually the sample of I will survive and the concept of the mv are connected. as you can see, the mv starts with the color bars. each of the the girls' solo scenes represent one of the 6 colours from the rgb scheme (we see green, red, blue, yellow, cyan and bright pink). and when all of the girls are together the scene and the outfits are black and white, because this is what you get when you mix the main colours, right? the sample of I will survive also ties to this concept. the song came out when the coloured tv started to become more and more popular, and so everyone was switching from b&w to the coloured one. that's why we see all this colours in the music video 😊

I also feel like it could be the opposite, i think cameras being shown respresents them moving from like to love because when you're only in like, you'll hestiate to show the parts of you that aren't perfect but when you're in love, you open yourself up fully, allowing that other person to see everything, thus instead of just showing a perfect music video, they're showing you everything that goes into making that music video.

Instead of a work-in-progress to end result transition between like and love, I interpreted that the shots of the finished music video are kind of like the surface-level attraction one feels at the “like” stage, whereas seeing the behind the scenes after the music video has been appreciated really makes it so much deeper, and you get to appreciate your partner for all the good and bad parts, or colours, of them that combined to create the rainbow of a surface image, or the music video.

just to say the official names for those are red, green, magenta, cyan, blue, yellow
red green blue are the colours that make up your screen, and cyan, magenta, yellow are the complements to those colours and are used for some things like printing (you'll see the letters CYMK on ink packages sometimes which is cyan, yellow, magenta, black)
but yeah those are the pure light colours making up a pixel display and their opposites, so that's why they are what they are

One thing I was surprised he didn’t comment on was that the chorus dance isn’t shown in its entirety until the very last fireworks chorus. Before that you only see snippets of the choreo from afar before getting close up shots for a lot of the chorus, hiding the scene. At the end though in the “Love” part of the video, they dance almost the entire shot from a longer shot. At first I was really confused by this but I definitely think it was at least somewhat purposeful for the storytelling

I thought it was exactly the opposite. My idea on why they chose to show the cameras was because of their theme which is narcissism if you could tell since their debut talked about making them feel like they're 11/10 but we really didnt know who they were talking about , but in the love dive era you can see that they were in acting like they were cupid and cupids personality is basically narcissitic , also in the love dive mv they were shooting arrows and in the after-like choreo they got hit by the arrows they shot , ("whats after-like" part) as we can see they each had a camera all for themselves. they started liking theirselves in the love dive era and starting to love themselves in the after-like

My initial read of the cameras read less behind the scenes, more reminiscent of live tv broadcast from music shows from the 70s-80s variety shows (to even now!) with separate studio sets vignetting the members. Tying also with the disco instrumental from the likes of shows of Dancin’ on air or Soul Train. In these live shows, you see multiple unavoidable camera operations, distinctive features of broadcasting but it’s interesting to see it as a stylistic choice in a recorded and edited production.

i’ve been obssesed with IVE and then boom you did this!! you know what is so cool about your theory Jordan? the way you pointed out about their respective color that come together at the last part. How they started it with individual color, and then moving to full rainbow shot towards the ending. whats after like? its love!! I never think to much about the song and MV. i just know that it was cool, but your insight and comment totally change my mind and makes me appreciate the Music Video even more!! 💗👏🏻

Another thing I noticed- in the black scene and the down chorus, their outfits are white and their accessories are the colours of their individual shots! (Wonyoung has red accessories and that red scene with the giant bunny, Rei has the green scene and green accessories, Leeseo has the yellow sunflower scene and has yellow accessories etc.) Maybe that could also mean something ^^

    • @cawewe

I think the “broadcast” concept was just a way of tying together the colors concept. You pointed it out a little, but if you notice the members are CMY and RGB. If you look at their 3 album art colors, it’s RGB, which are the additive base colors for screen technology. I think they wanted to make their color concept a bit more obvious, which is why their teaser imagery and music video literally have color bars showing. Since color bars are used for broadcast, they decided to incorporate the BTS moments to give the video more of an obvious visual concept than simply using colors.

To me, I think the camera is supposed to represent the person they like (while also just adding some cool visuals and etc to tie the stages together). The phrase "make love to the camera" kept coming to mind and how it would seem like they're flirting with the camera and the cameras are really engaged with them.
