- Syracuse has been prominently known to be a basketball school ever since they hired Jim Boeheim. With one national championship in 2003, led by true freshman Carmelo Anthony. Their football program has been stuck in limbo as they have yet to win an ACC title since relocating to the conference from the Big East.
Today, Syracuse has hired Jim Boeheim Jr. who tries to bring his dad's winning pedigree to the football team.

Syracuse wasn't a "basketball school" until about 15-20 years ago. Their football program was very good from the mid 80s through the early 2000s. They had many seasons winning 8 to 11 games, tons of top 25 finishes, 2 outright conference championships, plus 2 shared. During that period they went to the Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, 2 Fiesta Bowls, Peach Bowl, Hall of Fame Bowl, Gator Bowl, Liberty Bowl, and several others. This whole idea that Syracuse is a basketball school really didn't exist until 2003-04ish. If you were a Syracuse football fan during that 15 year period, you never went to or watched a game thinking your team was going to lose badly, if at all. Expectations were high and results were good.
Thanks for the insight! I haven’t kept up with Syracuse football much lately and I did dive a little for the video. I do love talking about college football so it’s nice to see they’ve been historically pretty good.
I agree but I would move it back to around after the 87' Natty game, I noticed a massive shift, even with the success of Graves and McNasty in the 90's Cuse was still a massive basketball powerhouse, example: in the 90's our most successful football era, two maybe three games would be on regional national TV, the basketball team however would be on like 18 times a year (I know there's more games in basketball) but the difference is still noticeable.
Donovan McNabb was their quarterback in the mid-90s as well. And he was an absolute stud.
Anybody remember that movie they made about Syracuse's national championship team a while back? I liked it, but man did they alter/make up a lot of the details in that story.

Syracuse is #31 all time in college football wins. They have more wins than Wisconsin, Arkansas, Michigan State, Navy, Army, North Carolina, Oregon, Colorado, Utah, Iowa, TCU, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, and many other teams. They also have a national championship (1959). From the mid 80's through the early 2000s they were usually in the top 25 and had multiple 8 to 11 win seasons.
Give us back our 110 wins in Basketball and we rank #5 all time in wins. The 5th winningest program in college basketball history! Sorry folks, but the Cuse is a basketball school!@@hartsickdisciple
