I think the Barenpark exp adds some interesting decisions - you really have to pick and choose which points you're going to pursue. Plus, the monorails add great table presence.
I agree with you Alex. Barenpark is brilliantly simple, extremely satisfying, and fun. It’s probably almost perfect for it’s weight. I will say that Isle of Cats is where I went next for a bit more weight in a polyomino game (love that one). Another great video Alex. Thank you.
The Grand Carnival for me! Glad you finally managed to get it to the table and content on it Alex. I love how the Grand Carnival has more depth but still is so easy to teach because every thing you can do is all logically sound and explained well on the game boards etc
I have patchwork and grand carnival. I played all other polyomino games and these too make a good match to have in collection. I also have Princess of Florence and In the hall of the mountain king for even more complexed experiences.
I am in full agreement with Alex. Barenpark fills a nice spot for playing a light polyomino game esp with casual gamers. I found adding the monorails from the expansion notches it up but then it competes with other games. I find the base Barenpark (perhaps with some extra goals from expansion) to fit the casual game niche perfectly. I do recommend 3D printing an insert if you are able. Cheers
How do you feel setup / teardown compare on these games? I love Barenpark but sorting all the pieces can be a real pain, especially considering how poor the storage solution is. Is Grand Carnival any less cumbersome in that respect?
I own only Bärenpark and I agree, the setup/teardown is a pain (granted, I played it only twice so I don't have any special sorting technique). I'd say that buying a good insert for this game is a must.

With the monorail, I think Bad News Bears does add a level of complexity over the base game. Love Barenpark.

They're about similar, although I don't actually find Barenpark a chore. We sort in small plastic baggies that keep the order intact.

I agree, I rarely pull out Barenpark because of the set up. I keep thinking of donating it, but it really is a very nice game once it is all set up!
