I was at the Carbondale SIU Stadium for this event. This event doesn't involve politics, it doesn't involve religion. This is a celestial based event and was an absolutely beautiful sight; the change in air temperature and sudden increase in wind speeds, the darkening of the surrounding area within a 50 mile radius compared to the bright horizon in the distance, the fact that not only Mercury and Venus were visible during totality but Mars was as well, the silence of the nearby roads as people stopped to view the spectacle. The only word I can use to describe this sort of experience is "ethereal", as in something that is completely of another world yet it is an event that is able to take place on our planet out of sheer luck.
I was in Robinson.. not that crowded at all.. what an amazing sight to see Totality is.. partial eclispse, even upper 90% doesnt come close to the experience..
I drove from Florida to be in the line of totality at a rental house. A 35 acre farm in Carbondale with my sons and their family. It was glorious! Can’t get over how humbling it was! Very emotional experience!
This was so cool!! I was in Quincy IL and somebody took their glasses off and stared at it!! I think they may go blind but I’m not sure 🤔 we’ll see. It was amazing!!!
we may or may not (pleading the fifth!) have done 80-100 down indiana farmland roads for an hour to dodge the traffic pileups that got us stuck behind schedule, in order to make it to totality path with only 3 minutes to spare and catch it just in time... worth every second of surreal and stressful racing around, so thankful we caught it!!
We drove all the way from IL/WI state line on Lake Michigan to Carterville to see it, only ones in a small parking lot. My brother took professional quality photos.
I feel bad for people who don’t care because they just don’t get it. To be a conscious being capable of witnessing this event is incredible, not to mention the fact that we actually understand what is going on.
What are the chances for the size and distance of two heavenly bodies giving us such a spectacle to see from a third. A privileged planet indeed, huge evidence of a Creator God positioning this on purpose for us his special creation.

I'm in DeKalb. It was cool but I'm jealous of the people that got to see totality in Southern Illinois.
So bad ass!!! Who agrees with me… this made history
That camera doesn't show how amazing it actually was in person.

Now yal might be stupid but. I'm not!
There's an eclipse like every year
lunar eclipse, solar eclipse total eclipse
There all the same
It isn’t a total eclipse only certain amount of years
Solar and Lunar eclipses are not the same.
Can’t compare, being in totality is just a huge difference!
