    You crashed this too??? I’ve had my Flightline Spitfire for 7 years, going back to the days before I knew what gyro and stability was. Back in the day when I thought “CG” and “Dual Rates” were some type of Witchcraft. (Those first two years I was flying at 100% 0 expo, and I centered the battery where the strap(s) were centered. The manufacturer would know better than me where the CG should be, who am I to argue?)
    And I still didn’t crash the 1200mm Spitfire. (I did have a lot down trim…)
    You’re a superb pilot, what’s going on? I got it! You’re such a nice guy you wanted me to feel better about my flying. I can’t remember the last time I crashed, I even bought the F-18 Blue Angel last week to push the envelope. If I can takeoff, fly and land that sucker I’ll finally get out of “Advanced Intermediate” status and finally reach “Expert” status. (I read somewhere once you reach Expert status, Horizon Hobby and MotionRC send you free planes and batteries)

  • @covercalls88
    @covercalls88 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Sad to see the damage. You have all the parts and the airplane actually seems repairable, the EPO foam is tough, the prop did eat it. Through the years I've repaired worst. Years ago I did testing and shooting videos of new RC planes and flying in the wind went with the territory. A couple of years ago I was flying out of Bennett field in Vegas. And it was wind was even stronger. On the runway and pit area if the plane was not pointing into the wind or weighted down it would get blown over. To takeoff my J3 in the cross wind I had to use the width of the runway as much as possible. As it was so windy the plane was airborne in about 40 feet, landing was to use the same strategy. But because it was so windy I couldn't taxi it back as the plane would weather vane into the wind. Took 3 flights with the J3 and 2 with my F6F. The guys in the pit area was cheering me on, maybe expecting a crash.

    • @ljhobbylife
      @ljhobbylife  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s tough flying in the wind! I used to do it more often when I had a field with no fence but this field is tough. Luck I fixed this one good and it’s been flying great! What F6F do you have? I have the Hanger and 9 and really enjoy that one!!

      @@covercalls88 I love the F6F an 80 inch scratch built has to be amazing! I have the H9 one and it just flies smooth as heck! The Hellcat doesn’t get as much love as some of the other WW2 birds and people don’t realize how amazing they are as models!!

    • @covercalls88
      @covercalls88 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ljhobbylife The 80" F6F is relatively large and flies very scale like it. Reasonably fast, but not over powered. I had to learn to fly keeping the momentum up on the vertical maneuvers like hammerheads and loops coming out of slight dives. Rolls require more input from the rudder and elevator to keep the nose from Dr dropping. But at slower speeds it's very stable. The comments I usually get from my friends it flies very majesticly.

    That was sad. Cross winds are the most difficult to fly in and yes we all make bad decisions. It took we a long time to have enough wavious to fly in wind until I was more comfortable. Still is fun and challenging. That's what makes this hobby great.

    • @ljhobbylife
      @ljhobbylife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    One of my all favorite 1600mm warbirds. The prop torque on takeoff is difficult to deal with. Someone told me to keep the throttle between 30% to 40% on takeoff and it’ll still lift. (I was gunning it, going hard left)

    • @ljhobbylife
      @ljhobbylife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it is still one of my Faves, the repair came out awesome, and my takeoff have gotten better 😂

    • @jeffhenderson934
      @jeffhenderson934 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ljhobbylife it went against my Polk County public school education that a plane could takeoff under 100% throttle. (It was the- “When in doubt, swing hard” mentality that we used in golf, tennis, baseball and bar room brawls)
      I think the Flightline 1600mm Corsair is even harder to takeoff because of the prop torque. (Nothing scientific about it, just seems more difficult) All of this explains why I fly the P-38 and the Tigercat more often than the Spitfire and Corsair. No prop torque. But in the air, there’s nothing prettier than the 1600mm Spitfire and Corsair.

  • @williewideback
    @williewideback 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    OUCH!! It flew very well but Gyro or no Gyro, the wind and me just don't get along, I rather wait till conditions are favorable. Once I was taxying my HSD, 1600mm A-10 SkyRaider in terrible wind condition, with no intention to fly it, just taxying it around to see how it tracks, as i throttled up and increased speed, all of a sudden a gust of wing lift the darn thing up about 12 feet, and i had no choice but to try and land it LOL, ended up busting up the landing gears!

    • @ljhobbylife
      @ljhobbylife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That P factor man… with the Spitfire once I got mine rolling and the tail comes off the ground, I would punch it to 75% throttle with tons of rudder so it doesn’t do that…. Going from jets back to warbirds was always tough man.
