Debbie Harry was my first crush in middle school. She and other Blondie members were ground breakers as one of the few bands with a strong female lead. With sex appeal, strong presence, glamor, and a killer punk sneer, Debbie was a true fore-runner for other women artists and opened the door to many other female performers. Not only is she the face of the band but contributes to writing the music and lyrics. Debbie and the band are still going strong and touring in their 70s! Truly deserving as inductees to the Rock Hall of Fame!

David Lush I think they were focusing only on their original songs. It's a great cover though.
When Blondie do covers they add and take away and make the cover their own they always have. They made this song into a power pop song with Debbie's vocals at full throttle. The Nerves the band who released it first got no where with it. The singer and writer of the song Jack Lee begged the band to record it. They did and made it a big hit all over Europe. Otherwise no one would of heard of it same goes for The Tide Is High.

Totally agree. Most songs they have are so much the signature of his excellent percussion, the speed, the hesitated drum sequences he pops in, creative beat styles. When one cannot easily air drum to a song and wants to, that's usually a great sign that the drummer is more than just a passive beat in the back. I love his work with this band.

While all the band members of Blondie were quite good, the only two I’d say were truly World Class (I.e. they/d have improved almost any band they joined) were vocalist Debbie Harry and drummer Clem Burke.
Too bad he was stuck in a disco band, like Tony Thompson.

I really like Maria. It's an underrated gem. Call Me is really only worth listening to if you have the time to listen to the unedited version

Holy fuck, the full 8 minute version of Call Me just makes you dance and head bang for 8 whole minutes. I didn't even know there was an 8 minute version until last week and when I heard it I replayed it for like a whole fucking hour

I went through my teen years with Blondie so seeing this made my day! I knew what you would pick for the top three so that wasn't a surprise and i would have put "Rip Her To Shreds" and "Dreaming" higher but that's because they are my faves, but still i loved it!
I listened to Blondie back in the 80’s. I had that first record you showed in beginning of video. I loved “One Way or Another”, “Heart of Glass”, “Call Me”.
Glad to see Blondie featured here. Too often they're not included on compilation videos. So many great songs.

As a Blondie enthusiast of the late 1970's and early 1980's, I agree with the 10 choices on this list. I consider "Rapture" to be Blondie's most creative song. Released in 1980, this was the first commercial song to introduce rap style singing, which was hardly known at the time to mainstream audiences. By the 2000's, rap, along with hip hop, was beginning to go mainstream, to my surprise and dismay.
It is considered the very 1st rap song to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.. The reason being that 60% of the song "Rapture" was sung in rap...
Sugar Hill Gang's "Rapper's Delight"
pre-dates "Rapture" by about a year,
but "...Delight" didn't make no. 1.

@@laustcawz2089 I guess it could be 50% sung in rap.. It seemed like it was more.. Even then at 50% that is still more than a lot of songs that are considered "rap" songs now. But regardless it is considered the very 1st "rap" song to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

I think Debbie Harry actually sounds pretty great live, but it always kind a bugged me how she would say the wrong words in Maria in all the live versions.
I cannot believe “The Tide Is High” is not on the list. While it’s not one of my favorites, I believe it was a huge hit in the USA.
The guy at the beginning that he wasn't including cover songs and The Tide Is High is actually a cover song. Blondie made the song famous, but they didn't write it nor did they originally recorded it.

I can't begin to count the number of times I listened to both the Parallel Lines and Eat to the Beat albums straight through, driving around in the very early 80s. There's not a weak moment on either one. But I'm not surprised you lacked the nerve to include "Victor" in this countdown.

Debbie Harry was always half naked in their videos, Please! Lol Always somebody comparing new artists to old school ones. Debbie Harry celebrates women and their freedom to dress how they want, I'm sure she has no problem with how Nicki and Rhianna dress.
Gwen Stefani comes closest to emulating Deborah's style. Deborah always had this sense of fashion. It wasn't just being sexy and letting it all hang out (cough, cough Madonna, Nicki, Miley).
Although, Gwen tries too hard. Deborah was more nonchalant and off hand. A true cool cat punk.
