Installing a Paver Patio with an Excavator

- Here I install a 12' x 12' Genest 3-Block paver patio for a customer to take place of an old deck he had, as well as make for a landing for stairs to exit the house. Project went smooth and only took a day! The power tilt came in real handy for this one.

Edging pavers would've really brought the whole thing together nicely.

Have someone pour a little water on the cut so you re not sucking in all that dust. I use a tile saw which works well.

I had the same question. When you are running the compactor over the top of the pavers did you use a pad to protect the pavers? In regards to the edging, I thought you were supposed to pull back from of the bedding to you wont see it around your patio. I'm not trying to criticize, just ask questions that maybe you or someone else to help provide some clarity. Thanks again for posting this, it's fun to watch.
What did you spray on the block at the end? Was that to activate the stuff you put in the cracks?

Most of the professionals I watch do paver patios use a nonwoven Geo Textile Fabric to keep the gravel separated from the dirt and eventually comingling. Curious if this is anything you do on any of your jobs. They actually use it for everything, walls, walkways and Patios. Would love to hear thoughts from any other professionals as well. We are looking to start offering hardscape work.

I dont have any explaining it specifically, but it is super easy to use. Basic number read out that tells you the height differential from where you zero it to where you place it. Very little maintenance as well.

That’s great work! I don’t have an excavator yet, only a tractor but that will be my next purchase. Coming from somebody with that size, would you recommend going bigger or smaller? I like the Deere 17g size but don’t want to limit myself too much. Thanks for the great content!
I honestly wouldn't go any smaller than the 2.5-3 ton class (~6k lbs), as they can be towed by most truck sizes and can fit into many locations being 5' wide. This machine can do a whole lot for its size, but certainly is right at the lower edge of capability/efficiency for an all-rounder. Though it's really all dependent on the work you intend to do with it. I personally would and want to go bigger!

So two questions...what was the total cost and second question is do you just buy a pallet of mixed pavers or do you have to measure for both sizes?
Total cost for the patio was ~$3k, labor and materials. These pavers were a 3 block set and they are provided randomly assorted on the pallet. You do not pick the amount of each block size, only the total square footage required.

@@AllanB-y7t Just water to activate the polysand. Use it in the small sprayer to not wash out the joints before it sets up

What is the make and model of that level you are using?
With how big that is you should have started on the fence side and worked your way to the way back to the other side to save moves and you can pile more in one spot I'm not expert I'm learning just Like you but one thing I was told and remember no wasted moves wasted moves is wasted time. No hate just to help.
Bobcat excavators are the most unbalanced machine on the market, fast but very tippy. Love my t595, t66 , s76.
I find this machine fairly balanced for it being a ZTS. The reason it is tippy in this video, is due to the super heavy power tilt that is designed more in mind for their 5 ton+ excavators. Basically a bit big for this model but way too useful to give up! Just have to be mindful of the positioning/side digging.
How much does something this size cost?
