Yes, I heard about this on the BBC world Service radio and looked for the video - I'm glad I found this because BBC I player is blocked outside of the UK. Thank you for uploading this.

Thanks so much for the upload, missed this when it was on tv. I just wish it was longer! I've watched and read everything to do with Japanese keirin. I'd love to see them make an effort to make it more global or a bit more modern. Have races viewable online or English commentary. Maybe a social media presence even. I'd bet on it if I could haha, planning on going to visit at some stage.

Strange that this form of cycling is so popular in Japan yet they aren't very successful in World track cycling.

@@arisgemino given the choice of the money they make in Japanese keirin and the tiny amount they earn at the Worlds, which one are you going to choose - bear in mind, the winner’s payout for the Keirin GP recently was 123 million yen, plus you have the deal with the time off and the possible lost earnings from keirin

Fascinating watch and gives a great insight. I'm curious about the frame manufacturers, do they all use the same techniques and materials? Is there a limited number of them? Is there rules for what can and can't be used? Is there certain specifications manufacturers must follow? Anyone with any info or knowledge on this it would be much appreciated by me, someone who has zero knowledge. Thanks for sharing this video. 👍

Hi, regarding the standards for bikes, from what I know its all standardized by a government body popularly known as NJS or the Nihon Jitensha Shinkōkai (Japan Keirin Association), this ensures all riders perform on their own strength alone and not based on the bike;s components/stats. itself

@@vincentlopez5980 Thanks for your help Vincent. I did some research since I posted my original comment because I found it so fascinating. I'm actually now going to buy one of the old frames used to build my own bike. It's just a matter of finding the right one, in the right size, for the right price. Thanks again for your reply and take care.
