    One thing is for sure, the more you ride the better you can get and start riding harder and harder trails.
    I personally have an 800 dollar used full suspension and that ain't stopping me from riding the hardest trails in my country.

    Enjoyed watching your videos as a new mountain bike rider myself. I have the 2021 Marlin 5 in medium orange and I absolutely love it (no upgrades yet). A few things I noticed about your video (definitely not criticizing, but just noticing). 1) yes, the camera was pointing too far down, and I had this problem at first too (if it doesn't point high enough right side up, turn it upside down on the mount and make sure you orientation is set to auto), 2) does your camera have stabilization because some of the footage is very difficult to watch because of the shake (my Hero 8 Black is very stable, even on Super View), 3) although this may have been a step up from previous trails, I would still personally consider it a beginner trail (despite the bumpiness, it didn't seem to have any technical challenges or steep grades). On the other hand, I loved your commentary while riding and it's great to see videos from beginners who are willing to be vulnerable, honest, and helpful. Good job!

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!! Yeah I actually don't use a go pro in my videos since I couldn't afford one initially, but I will try one out in my next video and that should hopefully be better for the camera quality and shakiness. The trail was rated as intermediate online so that's what I figured it was, but on the camera I did notice the drops and other obstacles didn't seem as steep or intense. There's not too many intermediate rated trails around here, so maybe this one's just more beginner/intermediate.

    • @TravelerTravis

      Talalipop MTB Sweet, I will look forward to your video with the GoPro, I think it will be a huge improvement for you. If you get a chance, check out the video I just posted to my channel called “Stephen’s Park Mountain Biking - Derecho aftermath of 2020”. Our local trails got devastated by straight line winds recently, and I was riding one of them with my Marlin 5 to see how it faired. It’s considered an “intermediate” trail as well, but I think these definitions cover a wide gamut. At any rate, I get passed by a jogger during an uphill climb, which was a little humiliating. Lol. Take care.

    Great video. So glad to hear you’re not upgrading parts (yet) for your reviews, in order to see what the bike can do completely stock. I’ve changed the seat and pedals on my 2021 Marlin 5 and it definitely has improved both the comfort (seat) and performance (pedals) of the bike. Always look forward to your videos on the Marlin 5, thanks for making them. Look forward to seeing what else it can do on more intermediate trails and hearing what your thoughts are on upgrades when the time comes.

      Morgan Lingsweiler I went with the Bontrager Commuter Comp Bike Saddle
      185mm width. I typically ride 45min to 1 hour between 7-10 miles and the seat has made a world of difference. Still looks like a sport saddle, but wide enough and soft enough to fit my seat bones comfortably. The Arvada was very uncomfortable, had to swap it out after my second ride.

    Get a Velcro chainstay protector they’re around £5 I have a lizard skins one for my trek marlin 5 and it’s great. Protects your frame from chainslap and also makes the ride quieter and will improve the vids since there is little/ no rattling.

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The marlin came with a rubber chain protector so I figured that would do the job. Is velcro even better? Now that I think about it it might be but i’m not completely sure.

      Talalipop MTB well rubber is decent but the neoprene is better protection wise, plus with the extra rubber it’ll be even quieter. Depending on the thickness of the rubber it mightn’t last too long if you’re riding bumpy trails. Another benefit of a neoprene protector is it hides your gear cable if you’re into that sorta thing

      @cytrekmtb 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Fearless Memes I think they are all good bikes, when I was doing all my research the Trek Marlin 5 fit my budget the best and gave me the most value for what I was looking to get out of it, an entry level MTB that could also serve as a solid XC/Road/Fitness bike. I haven’t tried the other bikes and I’ve only had Treks for the last 20 years, so I may be a bit biased. Either way, whatever you choose you’ll end up loving, just pick one and get out there and ride! If you’re specifically looking for more MTB worthy beginner back Marlin 6 or 7 is your best bet with Trek for good price with lots of value. Good luck!

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never thought about that! But comparing it to the easier trails I rode before, it was definitely a lot bumpier and required more concentration when I was going over those bigger rocks and dirt, as well as trying to avoid obstacles like the long grass and sharp rocks here and there. It was also longer and definitely had steeper uphill and downhill parts.

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hahaha I think that's probably the chain slapping against the bike when the terrain is bumpy; most bikes at this price point will be louder than more expensive ones. There is also a front derailleur which the chain can bump into as well.

    i have seen the differences on your videos, but still not able to decide. my rides will be mainly on roads and some gravel roads.

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For that type of riding I would personally go more toward the Dual Sport or FX, or perhaps a gravel bike since those are faster and lighter, but if you’re set on the marlin series, I agree that’s a tough decision. The marlin 6 has the hydraulic lockout so you will go faster on flat areas, but the marlin 5 has more speeds that are better for road use. I think I would personally choose the marlin 6 since you don’t lose too many speeds going from 21 to 16, but I would recommend test riding them both if you can to see how they feel and if they are fast enough on the road.

So everything integrates nicely. Altus shifters are one step higher, and the shifters are more important than the derailleur.
