GCN vs GTN vs GMBN “Triathlon”, but with 50km hilly road race, XC MTB and 20k flat TT - except everyone chooses one super-bike and has to do all three on the same bike.
Like in the other video, Si was not as aero as he thought he was. 🤪 I belive this effort is a little too short for Ollie. Nevertheless you are 20km/h faster than me so such ride is unbelivable.👍
They did not achieve the goal (or they marginally did it) so you can see how that only hill affected the target even when it was ~2k climb over 15km track. Complain was understandable, moreover when they blame O.B. for that 😂
Great job guys! Far beyond what I or anyone I ride with could even come close to. Next time get the full, healthy 5 of you out there. Practice runs, training like a team… then go for the hour 😮
This was hilarious! Good job Ollie messing up the route! Always happy to see the bike nerds nerding. Hope Ollie is back to riding soon; perhaps in recovery time you'll get to tease him about getting dropped again for a little while ;) I'm going to try a similar Garmin achievement soon, which for you chaps would be easy... but for a small moderately fit woman on a Darn Good Bike (Pinarello F5 +carbon wheels).... is *usually* hard. 40kmph average for 1 hour. That's all. I'm going to do this on Towne's Pass, near Death Valley California. Almost 40km, nearly straight, relatively steep downhill! Then it is just flat at the end. My family can drive in front of me so I can draft off the back of their SUV. It isn't cheating; it is strategy! Care to join? You'll surely go faster, but hey, Death Valley is beautiful in winter!
Was gonna say that sounds like a proper challenge until i looked at that pass :D. Id probably average close to 55kph for the 27km descent just coasting and then have to average 26kph on the flat for the last 13km which sounds a lot more doable. But hey, gotta do what you gotta do to get those pb's :D
@@agenthoini Yep, I'm gunna win with MATH. Probably a lot of paths in other areas to do it with downhills, but I don't have anywhere locally to practice going fast while cornering. So... gotta have a straight shot going downhill. I think if the wind isn't problematic I can do 26-30kmph for 13km on flat - that seems to be the range for my no-stop-lights flat strava segments on the road bike. And hey, on the downhill part it'll be neat to see how fast I can go with some pedaling on top of gravity ;)
That Orbea looks so much nicer than the Pinarello. More traditional where the seat stays meet the seat tube. It’s all in the eye of the beholder but I love it.
I really enjoy these kind of videos, showing you can blitz round a course without a super expensive tt bike (mind you those road bikes aren’t cheap) and the banter between everyone. More videos like this would be awesome!
You can hear in Alex's voice when he has gone deep, he sounds like his ear and head are blocked with water. Same voice as in the 312 Mallorca challenge, when he was spent. Great effort.
Great vid guys. Seeing the watt bombs from you reinforces my faith in the numbers the pro peloton puts out. Get Connor to lead you for a small part of the flat and Oli to draft you up the climb and I think you'll do it.
Yes, can confirm. The air temperature plays a big role as well. The lower the temperature, the higher the density. A difference of 30 degrees less decreases your speed about 10% (for instance; same watts, same CaD, same road surface, same bike and same rider you'd be going 27km/h rather than 30km/h). Agree that summer would be the best time!
@@RottenDKvery interesting! A given volume of air at a certain pressure and temperature will have the same amount of molecules. Those water vapor molecules are lighter than the nitrogen and oxygen molecules that would otherwise be taking up that space. But cooler air is denser so probably kind of cancels out. Guess a hot Florida day would be best for a time trial, if you can handle it lol.
@@dylan-5287 A hot, humid and low pressure and at high altitude is the best ;D Mexico? I also don't know how fog exactly works as it is clouds on the ground which means the water has condensed and is not only in vapor form, so i suspect it depends on the thickness of the fog with out knowing.
As the dynamic duo arrives at the dogging spot - with no postcode. Alex “I felt like I suffered like a dog.” Si “You didn’t look like that from behind.” Hysterical! The former Top Gear script writers are clearly alive and well at GCN. 😂 BTW - Didn’t Ollie go faster on his own in a club 10 than your downhill “two up” with the advantage of an aero derailleur hanger. These are simply the best videos. Keep ‘em coming 👏
It is amazing how different 20min on the bike can feel. Time is flying, when you are out with a buddy riding along while talking and almost stationary when you are out with a buddy hammering it down the lanes! Nice Video as usual!
Never thought I'd see the day when Si wore almost knee-high aero socks voluntarily. I feel as if a cardinal law of GCN has been broken. Although I haven't seen every single vid so may have missed another donning.
Next challenge: three supernerds on three average-endurance bikes that were less than three thousand dollars. Bonus points for extra stack like some of us normal people need
Great video! Next challenge for the Super Nerds on Super Bikes should be who can get the KOM on Sinai hill (Lynton, Devon) - walked it this weekend and it’s a beastie!
Congratulations lads, 10 miles is still along way to go, hope their was no headwinds, although it has been pretty calm the past few weeks. I do 10 miles to work and say you could come and join me, but i could do without the humiliation, 15 mins off my best time, I am in awe of your achievements. As for the next challenge, how about a relay race from Land's End - John O'Groats - 972 miles split between 4 or 5 of you. Each start at the same time from different locations, and if one of you fails your section, everyone fails. High risk, High reward. Or you could do Bristol to O'Groats - 743 miles.
Love these videos. Can’t wait for the next one! Si’s brake hoses definitely cost them in this one lol those things were sticking out like sore thumbs lol
I used to have an exactly 10-mile course from the train station to my office which I would run every work day, and my times were consistently in the 26-27 minute range, but, mine was also dead flat and arrow straight. I also wasn't on a superbike, but my Giant Defy3 aluminum roadie. I miss those days, but working from home since COVID, the commute from my bed to my desk, seems to be quite doable without a bike! Ha!!
Yorkshire Cyclocross - Super Nerds on Superbikes......Would love to see you up North getting stuck in! #ShibdenCC do training late every Tuesday night - 👌👌
More time should have been spent on the distance and elevation graph. The elevation started at 497 m, dropped to 241 m at the bottom of the big descent but then continued to drop as the route went up and over the last hill. Please explain.
Was it the Strava calculation that came up short? Happens to me all the time when Wahoo GPS says perfectly round X distance and I upload and it's 100 m or so less.
So Alex and Si:s joint 20 minute power is about the same as Tadej's zone 2 that he can hold for 5 hours breathing though his nose.. Puts it into perspective!😅
NERD CHALLENGE How about a nerdy team relay, GCN road and or gravel bikes, relay handover to GMBN on their top tech, then handover to GTN on their fastest TT tech. Maybe throw in an EMBN somewhere. Set it as a challenge to cross Scotland coast to coast or Wales or the Cotswold Way in a day so the scenery will be super impressive too.
Like this comment if you think it was Ollie’s fault 👍 and let us know what challenge should the nerds take on next? 🚴♂💨

@@gcn how about Chase the Sun on Super Bikes?

The A420 to Chippenham is slightly downhill, but that kicker passing through Ford would have slowed them down a lot.
But there was a hill there, that's a fact.
Ollie didn't factor in the route shrinking on colder temperatures :)
The route was in the pool!!
What if - and just hear me out on this one - you guys met up with Matt Stephen’s for a coffee ride.
Great video- more of this please. Really feel like GCN is hitting home runs with the content these days.
Alex having an aneurysm trying not to call out Si for bringing an un-aero bike to the challenge. 😂😂
But you don’t need an aero bike if you’re drafting, right? Who’s right? 🤔
Great job guys! Really enjoying the “super nerds on super bikes” series. Even though you may not have hit the goal there was still joy in the journey.
I like Alex roasting Simon’s bike after. Fave part. Cmon man.

It’s probably still WD-40

Many mistakes to correct for next time, as Alex rightly mentioned
Never thought I'd see the day when Si wore almost knee-high aero socks voluntarily. I feel as if a cardinal law of GCN has been broken. Although I haven't seen every single vid so may have missed another donning.
Not sure why anyone would want to wear "old man socks" while cycling (and I say this as an old(ish) man). Marginal gains are just not worth it!
100%, wearing them for aero is a definitely try-hard hahaha
Simon hasn't been the same since that day, he lost a part of himself. We hope that with time and the regular use of common socks, he’ll recover 😔
I wish him a smooth rehabilitation 😂
I can only hold 30mph for maybe a minute or two so I’m amazed you did it for that long.
I can only do that downhill
