Dude...you have literally have been my Quarantine Savior. Bless you brother for all that you do. Thanks for sharing your passion and your knowledge. Much appreciated :)
Just wanted to take this moment to appreciate I’m first here 48 seconds after uploaded. I’m sure this’ll also be another great tutorial (ps, can’t believe I just found out about the auto mirror feature. Will save me heaps of time. Thanks!!)
I'm a complete beginner (all I've done is modeled a doughnut), but I have to say your tutorial is extremely well made - its packed with content but still easy to follow because you explain every detail, including the controls and the menues, so there's little room for confusion. Thank you for your work, it really helped me understand Blenders modeling tools better.
Two minutes in and this is brilliant!! This is my first time ever using Blender, and my first time doing any 3D modelling. We have to make a 3D treasure chest for a piece of coursework on my uni course. This is so helpful, and even though I've never used Blender before (and even skipped on your "beginner" videos) this is easy to follow! Thanks so much for making this! 😍
I watched a tutorial on how to make realistic eyes. In the end, I got there, but I realized how spoiled I've been watching your tutorials. You are so thorough, explaining each step, and why you are doing it. I don't mean to knock the other guy because like I said I ultimately created an eye with his help that I wouldn't have been able to achieve without him. I more so just want to give you some kudos.
Bevel modifier had absolutely no effect for me (incl. without changing Limit method to weight). Did this part multiple times, step-by-step. Removing the tick from Clamp Overlap in the modifier made it work, but then I have an anomaly in the corner of the cover. Separating the parts made bevel work right away and no artifacts when joining them back together... 12:07 is shift+right mouse
Have you removed double vertices? I had this problem. Some corners did not bevel. Go into edit mode, wireframemode, select the vertices, M -> By distance. Happens quickly if you use extrude incorrectly by just pressing "escape" instead of "right click". It's already extruded by 0,00001m, you just don't see it.
@@Numonique Possibly, that and normals are usually first things I checked, might've missed (multiple times though... off day I guess), just A will do for selecting :)
Very useful and interesting video! i'm approaching Blender for making props for a video game that we try to build up. We are a group of friend with basic knowledge about programming and 3D design...Hope one day our dream come true... Thank you for this kind of videos! you got a new SUBSCRIBER!
Great tutorial as always :) One question... I've always seen you removing any triangles from the geometry. Do these have any negative impact on the modelling? Will your answer change if the asset is being created for games? Thanks.
using Quads are just easier to manage when modeling most if not all game engines will triangulate the model when you import it as well. it would even be a good idea to triangulate before exporting since the 3d modeling software will know how to triangulate where the game engine will guess and might get something wrong.
This alt+m thing never works for me for some reason. sometimes I get those selections and sometimes I get split option. Update: solved it, turns out its just M and not alt+m. Might be my fresh installed blender.
The IRONY. I have been scratching my head for the last four days trying to figure out how to make a simple treasure chest that doesn't overdo itself. You'd think it would be simple!
Can someone tell me how the intro scene is made? I followed the tutorial and the made the animation but am interested to know how the intro scene would be made. Thank you
@@grabbitt ahh it didn't work, thanks though! And thanks for the very speedy reply - very much appreciated 😁 edit: never mind, it did work - I just selected the wrong thing! Thanks so much for your help!
Hey Grant, this tutorial is awesome, looks like a perfect sea of thieves type treasure chest. I have a strange request. Im trying to experiment with my Blender models in Unity3d. Now, im trying to model a creature, specifically a bug, and i want in unity, for the model to have breakable limbs. Meaning on this bug, if it is hit, the limb will break off from the model and fall to the ground. I can handle the unity mechanics, but how would i go about modelling said bug in blender for this purpose? Would i have to model individual Bug limbs such as "left arm" "head" etc? Or would there be another way, such as unity detecting the models vertices and being able to seperate them? Should i just try modeling seperate pieces to the creature for now? Thanks!!!
@@grabbitt Is it possible the left mouse button to be responsible for the rotate view? Can something be changed in the settings of Blender? Currently it is pretty inconvenient for me to use the middle mouse button. Thanks in advance!
Hi, I had the same idea a few days ago. So I searched for a tutorial on TH-cam. There are quite a few. Some make it really complicated and some so fast that you can't follow them. Now I am curious how you do it. Then the buccaneer and the pirate ship are still missing Did you have a look at my finished work?
I have a question: How do you prevent using the wrong shortcuts? I type the wrong keys fairly often, and sometimes end up with strange results. For example: I had faces that ended up looking wrong somehow without being able to find a fix other than delete the faces and make them again. I had no idea what happened because I don't know which key combination I hit. And sometimes I know I have hit the wrong key combination without knowing what that has done. (in which case I undo untill I see where in the edit history I am)
when i CTRL-J it takes away the bevel help HELP edit: when i seperated it again it instantly worked but when i cntrl j it didnt work so i turned off clamp and put weight and then it worked
@@grabbitt not at all... But your textures painting skills are fabulous... You seems pretty good at drawing... So Just some tips like where to start from... Btw Love your videos.. Especially you live streams soo fun to watch :)

Correct me if Im wrong but at 2:57 you could scale then shift x to prevent scaling along the x axis

For exporting into an engine, wouldn't you have to smooth out the whole mesh (and then sharpen edges etc.) to make the engine shading work properly?
no engines will understand shade flat

Ctrl j won't copy the modifier
The bevel doesn’t work for me? Does anyone know why?
probably that you have an edge thats very close to another so it overlaps. Turn off clamping to see
❤️♥️❤️
