- The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and his expecting wife Meghan met with Australian Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove, his wife Lynne and New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian in Sydney, Australia on October 15.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex officially kick off their first extended overseas tour with a trip to Australia, Fiji, the Kingdom of Tonga, and New Zealand. The tour begins just a day after the royal couple announced they're pregnant with their first child.

Even if they are just "ceremonial" and decorative as the British monarchy, they are still vestiges of a time when a select few claimed to (literally) "be better than others", even chosen by "God". Those "chosen ones" amassed privileges, the populace paid for it. Go back in time long enough, and the peasants (the biggest part of society) lived only very slightly better or freer than slaves. Oh, those feudal times, when kings were still kings...! (Back in those "olden days", nobody would have dared to raise their voice against the Saudi crown prince, even if he decided to slaughter everyone who ever looked at him strangely.)
Why are we not appalled by the idea of having people in our times claiming to be "monarchs"?
I guess, it is the same reason why we are not appalled by the enormous and ever growing "wealth gap". Many people do not mind hierarchies - as long as there are other people who rank lower than themselves.
The love of monarchs, "strongmen", CEOs, celebrities and wealthy elites in general can be linked with racism, anti-gay animus, misogyny or a general disdain for "the poor". I am not saying that this is a "must". But a person who celebrates the unfair, inherited privilege and wealth of one group is possibly not enthusiastically supporting a fair society with equal opportunities for all and a strong welfare state (social security net).
But maybe I am too negative. More likely, those people with their little flags have not even wasted one second thinking about the real meaning of monarchy. Nor have they consulted a history book to find out how life was like for the "regular people" back then.

Ethney Green I have long hair. So does my daughter and several friends of mine. None of us constantly touch our hair. Meghan has some hair dangling on each side. It did the same at the wedding. She either needs to get s better style or do something with it so she doesn’t have to touch it every 2 minutes.
