  • While FROO GAL was out of the water we planned to treat a couple of small rust spots on the keel. We ended up painting the whole keel. (But doing the work ourselves saved 100s of pounds on boatyard labour and we now know how the keel was treated, unlike last time).

    will be interested to hear if that solves the problem - we have similar issue with iron keel!

      Seems the crew and skippers speak infrequently! cpobyrne1 we too will be interested to see the result of our efforts (we are not over-hopeful) and will update the TH-cam site/G+ with the result later this summer. Froo

    I don't think that will last very long. You should have faired it and sealed it with a thick layer of epoxy. Then a nother layer of epoxy primer and then three layers of Auntie foul.

      Hello. I'd like to know if by "fair" you mean grinding the surface smooth? Do you have to remove all visible rust, even if the surface is already smooth, or do you just epoxy over the rust?
      And is primer necessary to put on before antifouling? And when does gel coat come in?
